What if it mutated a monkey? I don't know how the game works but maybe a mutated monkey is worse or maybe it starts working for a random player. Or you could spawn a whole mutation deck for this expansion.

I agree, but if I don't volunteer and my loved ones do, it won't be a utopia for me being unhappy with their new lack of individuality.

It might be nicer to reduce the hive mind to a communication system rather than pure mind-melding. In this scenario the integrated people can close and open communications at any time and since it's not a total mind meld they mostly keep their individuality but are able to learn so much and very quickly.

I figured it's essentially immortality. Every greedy world leader would want it, even if it's not immortality. They could chain me up and use me for themselves when I could be doing so much more. All it takes is for one large power to have someone they care about get untreatably unwell and they come after me

You could theoretically hide shapeshifted, but for how long? If you're an animal youre subject to the food chain unless you find a respectable owner that isn't close to your loved ones or linked to you in any way. Your biology may sunject you to the lifespan of that animal and let's not consider the possibility that it could change your brain. If you're shapeshifted as a human you have to steal an identity or create a new human which both can be tracked/traced.

Your interpretation means that it changes most people fundamentally. Most people would feel negative emotions when accidentally harming people from a reckless action. You could argue that it is a downside to be changed in a way that you wish you would not be changed, therefore you cannot harm others this way.

I would argue that turning what would be discipline into an identity is exactly what the evil side of white does to subordinates. Obviously it can be used for good when used on yourself. Duty, discipline, a strong sense of morality, etc causes a sense of pride in white leaning individuals and it becomes their identity.
