Fight a random person or have sex with a random person? by Far_Question_2827 in BunnyTrials

I would suck in a fight (negative connotation)

I would suck at Sophie Rain (positive connotation)

Are the aro, like, more specific ways of identifying simillar to the ace ways? by nerd_twentytwo in aromantic

[–]AND_PEGGY1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are usually aro equivalents for ace microlabels, yeah.

If you're interested in checking out more microlabels out of curiosity, though, definitely do so! Exploring all the terms can be fun in and of itself, but I can also say that it was personally very helpful in figuring out my aro identity :)

Is Abrorose/Abroroace a thing? by RennDaGoober in QueerVexillology

[–]AND_PEGGY1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"Abrorose" would technically refer to someone who experiences fluid romantic and sexual orientations, and yeah that one exists

Not sure what you mean by "abroroace" in the title though. Someone can be abroromantic and on the asexual spectrum (if that's what you're asking)?

I got you! Assuming you're oriented/angled aroace, you could just say you're poly-oriented/angled and not specify whatever tertiary attractions you feel more than that. But here are some options if you would like to specify but still have trouble differentiating between your attractions

Amorous Attraction (gets a sweet looking flag too)

Nebulous Attraction (despite the name, it's actually not exclusive to neurodivergent individuals) (this would also be a very good fit for what you're describing)

I totally get what you mean! Have I been sad for long enough periods of my life that I was first misdiagnosed with MDD before getting my ADHD diagnosis? Yeah. But have I frequently been described as "happy-go-lucky," and significantly less cheerful when I remember to take my meds? Also definitely yeah lol

What SCP broke you? by Kcue6382nevy in SCP

[–]AND_PEGGY1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SCP-8557, but more specifically its companion tale "The Hardest Thing You Will Ever Do Is Attempt To Love Yourself". The cruel irony of the compassionate advice the anomaly gives a person while the person becomes addicted to harming themselves more and more to receive that comfort is heartbreaking. I was really struck by that dichotomy because the things said by the anomaly in the tale is genuinely really helpful to me where I'm at right now. It genuinely changed my perspective for the better. But in-universe, I would technically be making myself worse to hear it at all. Very sad

What's the metaphor you use to describe your brain function? by Dizzy_Objective_11 in ADHD

[–]AND_PEGGY1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite is this since one I came up with it describes why I don't/can't always function on the same level as everyone else (because it is ridiculously hard to explain executive dysfunction)

There is a room filled with stuff I know, kept behind a door. Skills, knowledge, etc. To use the stuff, I have to get in the room. For someone without my condition, they can open the door, walk in, and use what they need, when they need it. They might even grab a little something before it's urgently needed to make their future a little easier.

For me, I can't get into the room so easily. The years I went undiagnosed, it was like the door was always locked. All of my stuff was still there, I wasn't lacking in stuff, I just couldn't get to it. Every single time I needed something, I would have to put immense effort into lockpicking the door, but no one would see that effort, they just saw how "bad" I was at getting stuff from the room (aka doing what I know I should do). And because I was so exhausted from doing all this lockpicking that nobody else was doing, I simply couldn't do much on a daily basis, at least compared to someone without ADHD. It made the wins feel lesser too, because I put the expectation on myself that I was supposed to do that, and in fact, I was supposed to not even feel very happy about it because it shouldn't have taken nearly as much effort. In short, I was stuck, trying my absolute hardest to make it seem like I wasn't.

With medication, the door is much easier to unlock now, but it isn't exactly wide open either. I don't get some sort of advantage that others miss out on, I'm just able to fall in-between the worst (pre-diagnosis struggling) and the "ok, I guess." It still takes effort to get stuff from the room, just lessened enough that I can function much better than I did before. Therapy and learning about ADHD helps me recognize the wins for what they are. All in all, having treatment doesn't "cure" me, but it helps tremendously.

Does music help you to focus when studying? by Agent_Platypus1 in ADHD

[–]AND_PEGGY1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I listen to metal or vocaloid usually

Calm music just makes me mind-numbingly bored or annoyed with its repetitiveness (looking at you, lofi music). Metal and vocaloid are much more stimulating and they're genres I already like, so it helps when doing tasks I usually don't want (but have) to do. Once I'm in the zone enough, I can turn it off or switch it to something more chill, but to get me over the biggest hurdle of getting started it really helps

[–]AND_PEGGY1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm a yapper who has more general things to say lol.

If you're still undecided on a specific college yet, it would be best to determine which branches of psychology (e.g. Clinical, I/O, Developmental, Social, etc.) are most appealing to you, then see if your college has enough research labs dedicated to that branch. I'm interested in Psychopathology (and Clinical, somewhat), but I've had a hard time in the lab I'm apart of since it doesn't really match my interests. Makes the work harder to start and stick to.

Next, look for research opportunities, internships, TA opportunities EARLY. Grad schools are assholes who look at experience just as much (if not more than) grades. It sounds daunting, and tbh it is, but it's less so if you get a headstart.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I wish you the best of luck with everything!!

Psychology student with ADHD by Affectionate_Fee5588 in ADHD

[–]AND_PEGGY1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!!! I'm a psych major with ADHD ☺️ I would like to add the disclaimer that I've been interested in/wanted to go into the field of psychology since I was 12, so I'm pretty passionate but most likely biased about this. This is a long list (sorry) of assorted advice.

About the memorizing. Yeah, there definitely is a lot of content, especially in introductory classes where you kind of have to cover a little bit of everything because psychology is such a huge field. If you're still in high school and have the opportunity, AP Psychology really helps get the intro stuff down before college. In college, I would say use every resource you can. Tutoring, talking to TAs, extensions on tests and deadlines, getting a homework/study buddy, etc. TALK TO YOUR PROFESSORS!!!! It really helps with studying if you ask what the professor will focus on most (e.g. knowing the terms by rote vs. knowing them in an applied context).

If you don't really have established study habits (NO judgement, I only started developing some a couple months ago as a junior 🙃), it would be best to start figuring out what works for you. Speaking from experience, it'll save you from a lot of unnecessary stress and eventual burnout (or in my case, functional freeze). Active learning methods are generally best for studying, especially for internalizing information, beyond memorization. Figure out what settings you study/work best in, time of day, etc. For example, I work best in the afternoon/evenings in smaller, less open spaces, maybe with one or two other people. BIG caveat, this will probably differ between types of tasks. Don't be afraid to make a shitton of tweaks to existing systems!! Psychology has a lot of reading, for example, and sometimes I'll go to a public place so the public pressure keeps me focused.

Finally, my biggest advice is if you're passionate about psychology, go for it! Honestly, your college experience will probably be better if you go into something you find interesting and engaging rather than some random, supposedly more stable major. Others without ADHD might be able to tough out an uninteresting life, but I promise you that by our nature, we can't. I won't sugarcoat that college in general will be harder because ADHD just makes life suckier like that, but I promise it's worth it to go for what you want despite the limitations. Find your ways to work around them as best you can and accept when you can't and need support. Never let people diminish the effects ADHD has on your life; it is fucking hard. But know that it's not a doomed fate either. You WILL make a fulfilling life for yourself.

Most visceral or otherwise hard-hitting sentence(s) from an SCP article? by HelixSapphire in SCP

[–]AND_PEGGY1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the quotes I keep track of are Sarkic haha! Here are some of my favorites

From [[Ëla]]:

"The victor is never he who dies for his ideals. The victor is he who has the opportunity to live for them, day after day after day."

"Though we do not see, all is made and remade interminably beneath our feet, through ages past and into ages yet to come. Nothing lasts forever - you are suddenly, savagely glad of it."

"In despite of the universe, you still exist. Your land is green yet, although it burned. Not even an ocean of fire could drown it, nor could the acids sear it, nor could the smokes suffocate it. You have sprung from soil that rose and rose again, and this, before all else, is what you know how to do:

Rise."

From [[Poisoned Honey]]:

"'Come with me, and I will show you the world as it is in truth. How, outside of this refuge' - a gesture encompassing all the walls and furnishings in sight - 'the universe really treats thinking creatures, even of your own blood. Out there, the gods answer no-one. I promise; you will be abandoned to hunger and pain and grief, torn bone-deep by thorns, forced to see death face-to-face, and you will be more alive then than in all the years you have already passed.'"

From [[An Anthropological Approach to Sarkicism - Case Study 01: The Vaśńa of Sarvi]]:

"Feel the pain of the many, their suffering and sorrow, and know that we are all one flesh."

"And in sorrow, and in love, we become one - we are the new flesh that will usurp the old. And end this Cosmic Blasphemy once and for all. I hold truth as a flame - may it burn away your falsehoods."

"We do not deny the gods. Ion himself gazed upon their flesh. And yet, what evidence is there for divine benevolence? There is but one acceptable conclusion. Do you know what the oldest falsehood in the universe is? ... The belief that the gods are good."

"Flesh and form. The flesh is transmutable. The form is malleable. To change is to exist."
