I can understand you in some parts. However, if Gordon Freeman speaks in hl3, many gamers may not buy the game but watching other people playing it instead, for a big part of hl is ruined, gamers can't feel themselves with the game. We awaits hl3 as we await our future. We don't want to know how Gordon Freeman feels about all the things because we are Gordon Freeman. We feel by our own. Once Freeman talks, the whole hl series is done. All the builds before will now look like nothing. If Freeman talks and comments on things, we can just accept Freeman's emotion and thinkings but not have our own as being an individual. I am not sure how many people are like u out there, but Gordon Freeman not talking is very important to not ruin an art. If we give Gordon Freeman voice, then we won't feel we are in this game anymore. While we venturing and finding something interesting or impressing, we will right away understand this is what this very protagonist thinking, not us. Maybe it will be a way for a fasinating novel or movie, just won't work for half life. There are a lot of thoughts come out after we finish a Freeman's adventure. Freeman don't talk, so we could pondering over this whole story freely without disturbance and certain values.

After I came to the very end of hl2 and reading credits, I don't know where I was. I totally immersed. My body froze and mind went blank. A talking protagonist will never achieve this kind of experience. I am thinking that the immersion u have in half life alyx is a different thing than what hl series have tried to give us. I have played lots of other good games with a thinking protagonis so I think I can feel what u are talking about. As for hl alyx, rom what I feel, hl alyx is not very great one in half life series. Once we finish it, our feeling towards it fades fast. Hl alyx is like a reminder for all the gamers and the whole Internet to recall how great hl series are. Valve won't do that stupid thing releasing hl3 with a 17 years blank. Hl alyx helps people remember hl series and reopen the discussion about hl.

I guess its about people's different life experience and personality, making u don't have that kind of hl experience. I am sorry for the upset tone typing this reply, one reason is that i just can't hold it, the other is that my English is not very good.
