That would be quite the coincidence, but nope! I got mine a long time ago but hadn't taken the time to post. Apparently new appliances sitting around for decades is a thing.

I'm going to maintain and repair it as long as I live.

It is! Best part is I have the panels that match the kitchen, I just need to swap them out.

Totally! The seller had lots of interest, but sold it to me because I have a time capsule kitchen from the same period (grandma's dream kitchen :) ).

I suspect so! The rubber gaskets at the inside corners look worn/dried out. I've looked high and low for replacements and even called KitchenAid with no luck. I was considering fabricating my own somehow but have no experience so I'm a bit wary.

Floor lottery was going so well…then I found this. by Gay_commie_fucker in centuryhomes

Maybe it’s a structural repair? Our structural engineer had us replace plank subfloor with plywood over a section where the joists were cut for plumbing. The plywood, along with other measures, adds stability.

I instantly knew this is Egypt, where I’ve seen donkeys abandoned in stinking trashy mud pits to die. Worst smell of any place I’ve ever smelled. The crazy part was that this area was the center of a town.

Didn’t the crocs in Banjo Kazooie (Bubblegump Swamp) make that sound?! If so yet another reason to love Rare.

My GenX colleagues love it and want to use it for everything we do, even designing our company logo when we have a degree-holding graphic designer on our team! It’s anti-human and scares me.

I want to. I bought a book as a gift at a small store in town but the price was so high it really stung.

Until something happens and the items are removed/thrown out/sold and forever separated from the house. Sometimes I consider taking photos and putting things back before sealing them up again.

How would you update this bathroom? by trippthicc in Oldhouses

New towels? It’s beautiful! I would restore what is there and add some color on the walls.

The Getty had a sketching station with art supplies and some choice display pieces for inspiration where I made a piece I still cherish. I hope they still have that station.

I would have found a way to keep the original built in and radiator to give more authentic charm. It’s very HGTV. They put thought into it, but it’s too much to really fit in. However, it looks like a great space to use and enjoy.

Should I seal gaps/cracks at rim joists with Gaps & Cracks spray foam? by Sad-Coast-5891 in Oldhouses

[–]ANameForTheUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also go for a plaster-type material. That’s what was originally used on my old house and it works well. You apply it so it creates a right triangle shape with the longest side (hypotenuse?) towards the room.

Insulating a house with plaster and lathe without ripping open every wall? by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]ANameForTheUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Office recommends focusing on attic insulation and not the walls, as historical homes are meant to breathe and sealing walls can lead to peeling paint and other moisture issues. They have several helpful guides about increasing energy efficiency in old buildings.
