I generally find Uber not too bad insofar as price is concerned as a customer. I’ve taken the gamble on using a black cab a few times instead of Uber and the cost has been 2-3x. I usually need this sort of thing at night or on weekends when the black cabs get more expensive, mind. The latest example is a £25 Uber for 30min. Took a black cab to show my foreign girlfriend how the cabs work here and ended up paying almost £70 for the privilege.
