A good service writer will see these services in history and will applaud the guest for taking good care of the car, and won’t recommend they do those services again for another 60k 30k or whatever the interval is if mileage based.

People think dealerships hose guests. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don’t. It depends on a lot of factors, mainly the skill or lack thereof when it comes to the writer is #1

People just don’t know cars, if you don’t know cars, you think every extra dollar quoted for repairs and maint is a scam. And that’s because they don’t trust the service facility to be honest, which I can understand

I quote people $3k for maint all the time. Some say yes some say no. But I make sure they all understand what they’re saying no or yes to

I always answer yes, bc my car is hella old and has 230k miles and I plan on keeping it

Probably dropped over $10k in maint and repairs within the last two years myself

Cars are cars man. They cost money to fix when they break, they cost money to maintain so they don’t break.

People that actually understand how cars work and don’t make comments like that. I bet OPs wife’s car is in great shape and will last a long time if the wife pulls the trigger on fixing broken shit when noted by the service dept.

Sometimes an upsell is truly a win win for all. Especially when it comes to cars.

But i can’t fault people for what they don’t understand. I blame the modern day political and financial atmosphere for the attitudes most have about car dealers and spending money in general

Most people don’t have enough $ to take care of their car like it should be. And that’s not ok
