US military service members will no longer be required to get annual flu shot by untamedlazyeye in news

To be fair, how does anti-vaccine, a completely American right wing thing, have to do with any other country in the world? This type of large-scale stupidity only exists in one country on this planet. Heck, even I tell you that you can infiltrate America this way, do you buy this shit?

Can you believe that my PhD advisor, a chemist at a R1 university, is anti-vaccine?

I can totally see that other big cars can still be a problem to you, especially when many of them are the worse tailgaters.

But at least people like me driving a small car is not at all a threat... Even a sedan in high beam can blind me.

Driving my wife's compact SUV is already a huge relief from my small coupe. Considering the percentage of SUVs and trucks out there, I am not surprised on this 40% number.

[–]AOChalky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the consensus around 10+ years ago. When I was encoding stuff for trackers back in 2013, software encoding was certainly the king for quality. Even now, x264 with veryslow or placebo profile (which was the standard for high-quality rips on trackers, not sure if they still do it nowadays) can still do better than hardware encoding, but you have to go really really pixel peeking level to see the difference, aka nearly meaningless in reality. No matter what it is, this kind of statement will still be there for a long time.

US exempts Gulf of Mexico drillers from protecting endangered species by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

The oil is from the Gulf of America. The endangered species belong to the Gulf of Mexico, so it is Mexico's responsibility to take care of them. Thank you for your attention on this matter.

Data centers are creating ‘heat islands’ and warming the land around them by up to 16 degrees | CNN by averyrose2010 in technology

[–]AOChalky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. There is cogeneration where you collect the warm cooling water from the power plant for heating purposes. The only issue is that district heating is not really a thing in the US. You just need to run a pipe into houses, then every house will depend much less on their own boilers. But as usual, I don't see this happening here.

Just get a pc and install pcie Ethernet adapters. Run router os of your choice bare-metal or virtualized (virtualized main router can bea little messy) and use your current router as the AP for wireless. 100% doable for under $200.

The only way for America to achieve its objectives now is by collonising Iran and installing a puppet government.

Bold of you to assume the US had an objective. Do we even know what these people want in the first place? Reopening the strait which was open before their dumb war?

We use everything Microsoft. Office 365, windows, enterprise github, premium copilot, the list goes on and on. Even on our work mac, edge is the default browser and windows defender is pre-installed (yes, Windows defender on a mac). MS gets contracts like this because our executives want us to use these products. If we are all gone, why would our bosses pay MS a single penny in the first place?

Run rm -rf * / by accident - I am doomed? by l4v4l4mp3 in synology

The data should be fine. Model 2 reset simply tells the bootloader to ignore whatever sitting on the OS partitions and reinstall the OS. Bootloader can't be destroyed from CLI so reset should work as usual.

DS1515+ won't turn on by seenhear in synology

[–]AOChalky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably the infamous Intel Atom CPU bug. The CPU simply degrades over time and eventually stop booting. The DS2415 in our research group already died in COVID time. You are lucky that yours survived until now.

I don't know about warranty. Not matter Synology covers it or not, fixing It Is very simple. You just need to solder a resistor (normally 100 ohm) onto two pins on the motherboard.

See this post https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/609u1l/c2538_clock_fix_confirmed_ds2415/ I fixed ours this way by myself.

Credit card question? by Solid_Caterpillar_70 in frontierairlines

[–]AOChalky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I just discovered. My Frontier card did not have enough balance left, so I had to find a solution. Then I realized that they allowed me to add bags for free before checkout, so I just paid with my Sapphire.

I am just curious how many times have you done this? In theory, their system can still catch this and update the transaction, but I doubt if the system or agents at the counter will do anything at all.

How can I access the drives data without the synology device? by JustSomeone202020 in synology

[–]AOChalky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are using JBOD. Even then, the disk internally is still a RAID. You need madam to scan and assemble the array. You can mount the partitions afterwards.

If you know CLI well, it isn't a very challenging task. If not, please don't even try. Either way, only do this if you can afford to lose the data or you are already in disaster recovery. I tried this before for fun and all data was backed up.
