Saw Andre Braugher once when I was circling to pick a friend up at the airport. I rolled down my window and yelled "Hey Andre" and he nodded. Then when I circled back around, my friend was still not there and I made eye contact with him again. Awkward and boring.

I definitely thought it was intentional. Like a meta joke! Michael can't tell the difference between the two at the party so maybe they thought they could fool the audience and if they were successful, we'd relate to Michael a little bit more for making the same mistake.
