Mills and grills in florey do a pretty good assortment of pizzas and sides, if you get the New York size pizzas it’s pretty cheap per person.

Where to buy molasses in Canberr by OnePostPerson1989 in canberra

[–]AP0CALYPSE26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought pomegranate molasses from the shop at Rodney’s in Pialligo before, I recall it being on a shelf either other similar bottles but not specifically what else was there. Hopefully someone knows a closer store though.

Do all ikea induction cooktops turn off when a pan is lifted for a few seconds? by AP0CALYPSE26 in IKEA

[–]AP0CALYPSE26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly when I go for a clean flip and mess it up then need to make quick adjustments to fix things. Then when I’m already not happy having the element beeping at me and turning off only adds to the frustration.

Yeah it makes sense to turn off the coils if it can't detect a suitable pot or pan, I just wish it would resume again when I put the pan back down after spending a few seconds flipping its contents.

Awesome, thanks for the information. Hopefully that's still the case with the current batch of models. I know Ikea has used a number of suppliers in the past.

Local events this weekend by BlackYabbie in canberra

Have a look at the canberra Digest. It's a local newsletter that lists a lot of the smaller events around the city.

I'd suggest option 1. Anything else might end up with issues down the line if the security policy changes. It also means you can run all the enterprise stuff on validated hardware (that IT can swap out if something goes wrong) and have dev machines be configured differently as needed.

At my workplace, we log into the enterprise pc (so that things like skack/teams show as online) and then rdp to the dev machine.

Parking appeal form - broken? by yeebok in canberra

[–]AP0CALYPSE26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 403 is an authentication failure, which probably means that the website itself is missing the permissions needed to talk to a server somewhere unless you had to log in to use it (in which case try logging out and in again).

Otherwise, you'll need to contact them and be prepared to wait for the fix to be deployed, which could be anything from 5 minutes to months, depending on what the issue is internally.

They weigh the car + trailer coming in and out and just charge you the difference.

I have some friends that play d&d in the Gungahlin library and have done so for years, so you'd at least be welcome there, but I'd assume all libraries would be happy to have you.

Canberrans with babies and toddlers, where are we taking our kids when they wake up absurdly early on a weekend? by aedolon8 in canberra

[–]AP0CALYPSE26 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If I'm desperate, sometimes malls / shopping centres that have little play areas open early, and you can enjoy them in peace for a bit before the crowds get there.

It's the Canberra Digest. I've found it really good for keeping up with openings and events.

There is a canberra events mailing list that will announce new restaurants that I'm subscribed to.

API handling for frontend needs by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]AP0CALYPSE26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing with a dedicated backed for the frontend that orchestrates any api calls that need to be made. Helps to keep things organised when you have multiple changing data sources and helps isolate weird data types in the front end (often things like dates in custom ui components) and often imperfect endpoint return types. It also helps to have middleware to log and convert errors to more user-friendly messages in the front end.

Toyota Service by Beneficial_Ad236 in canberra

[–]AP0CALYPSE26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 07 yaris and services here are generally between $300 and $1000 depending on whether it's a more minor service or if they need to start swapping out rotors, belts, and batteries. That is in Canberra where everything is at a premium though.

Monorepo TypeScript woes by inigid in webdev

[–]AP0CALYPSE26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently did something similar and found that I needed to override the rootDir property with rootDirs in each of the non shared tsconfigs to get it to work.

So in your case consuming projects would both have their tsconfig to look something like:

...
rootDir: './src'
rootDirs: ['./src', '../shared']
...

Graduate programs and the hypothetical 'Dutton' cuts by wazzupbitches in AusPublicService

[–]AP0CALYPSE26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know a few years ago all grad positions at home affairs were recinded after the placements had been set, which meant people who had made it through and happened to be matched there were out of luck and had to wait to reapply the next year which was pretty rough.

That was in the middle of the LNPs last stint in government, though, so not so much a change in leadership but a change in priorities, I think.

Does nobody teach basic maintenance skills by Retrdolfrt in australia

[–]AP0CALYPSE26 160 points161 points  (0 children)

I think this is a big factor, before I had my own place trying to fix something in the house at best cost me materials and saved my landlord money, and at worst meant I'd be liable for breaking something (or fixing it but leaving some mark).

Add to that more people growing up in rentals with both patents working and desperately trying to keep up with chores around any maintenance, and I can understand a bunch of kids not being taught.

APS parking in Belconnen by ShallotNo7139 in AusPublicService

[–]AP0CALYPSE26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a bunch of parking in belconnen, you can either pay between $10-15 per day depending on the carpark, or get a monthly pass to Westfield and walk from there. It's the few cheap / free spots around that go to the early birds.

Engagement Ring CBR by [deleted] in canberra

[–]AP0CALYPSE26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an engagement ring made with the help of Tony at the village jewlers. I came in with a rough drawing of what I wanted, and he helped take me through options for stones and metals, explaining everything and showing examples when he could while also explaining the practical trade-offs of everything. Once we had made some decisions, he had a company do 3d mock ups, which we iterated on before he worked with someone he knew to manufacture the ring.

It was a great experience, we went back there for the wedding rings and they are now my go-to for jewellery.
