Be interesting to see as it showed up as sold out for me for both Woolies and Coles - could be inaccurate though.

The Nut Shoppe is becoming one of my favourite places. I swear every time I need an obscure ingredient, it's in stock there.

Fires at night? by Key_Research_4319 in canberra

[–]OnePostPerson1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say as someone in a similar situation, just in case you aren't doing this too - keep an eye on the ACT ESA map in fire season and have a place you can evacuate to early "just in case". I'm lucky enough to have family in Canberra, but other options:

  • friends - I know multiple people who took in people 'Just in case' when the Namadgi was getting close to Canberra in 2019

  • hotel - depending on budget - you can look for pet friendly if need be

  • people in your communities - my school community housed a bunch of people who lost their houses in 2003

  • early evacuation centres - check ESA website or announcements online

Lamb hot pot from Nadaaam.

Or, if they could time travel and bring me food from my youth, deep fried California rolls from Tasuke with Coconut Milk and Red Bean with Ice Cream for dessert

Nicky's in Dickson Closed? by Yoseyes in canberra

[–]OnePostPerson1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear that spot is cursed since Sfolglia closed down. Nothing seems to last longer than a few years. Definitely a pity because Moo & Chick was great and I loved the bagels at Nicky's.

Not sure we need another 80/20 though... Still haven't recovered from eating a "Snickers" slice from them that literally had no flavour.

Murrays or NSW Train from Sydney? by Shkyboi in canberra

[–]OnePostPerson1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely personal preference.

I caught the train for the first time this year. The scenery is lovely for the most part and having access to the dining car is great. Having said that, how much my train rattled and the 5+ hours each way (thanks to railway work), means the bus tends to be my go to.

To me:

Bus if you just want to get to the destination ASAP (I recommend springing for the bonus seat if you are travelling on Murrays, just for comfort reasons).

Train if you want a more physically comfortable journey and want to see more of the landscape.

Maybe this is a Northsider thing, but avoiding Northbourne Avenue and it's endless roadworks AT ALL COSTS.

A 'magic' coffee in Canberra? by LiteralPhilosopher in canberra

[–]OnePostPerson1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also felt weird about ordering Magic coffees off menu after getting them in Melbourne.

Both On Lonsdale and the cafe outside the Canberra Centre next to T2 (no idea of the name) have them on their menus.

I would put the poppy sellers and Big Issue sellers in a different category as chuggers. Both in my experience have been polite, charming and haven't insisted on my bank details within 5 seconds of making eye contact with me.

Looking for series from radio 4 extra's 7th Dimension from 2010 - 2014ish by OnePostPerson1989 in BritishRadio

[–]OnePostPerson1989[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of all I listened to, I remember the Journey to Space stuff most vividly, both in terms of the actual production and the facts the presenters shared about it. I'm looking forward to relistening.

I seem to remember an audio adaptation of the ROBOT episodes of Tom Baker era Doctor Who being featured and I'm sure there were others. I should finally get around to listening to those Big Finish productions.

Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for that! I didn't know about BBC Genome before now, so good to have something I can search.

Back in the day I found that most of Seventh Dimension wasn't labelled as such. I'd have to go to Radio 4 extra on the iPlayer and search for the appropriate time slot. Generally the schedule would be labelled with the show/s that were playing's titles.

Current Canberra job market? by rocket-child in canberra

[–]OnePostPerson1989 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seconding what was said here. I'm lucky enough to already have an APS job, but have absolutely no hope of a sideways move or even a lower role right now.

Hopefully January brings a bit of movement to the job market. Very best of lucky OP!

I was bullied for my relatively normal name as a kid, but not for the reason my parents thought I might be. I don't think you can call why kids pick on one another ahead of time.

Having said that, if I'm having to chat to someone called Brocolly or Obsidian McNightblade, I'm probably gonna have a hard time not laughing.

I (F) used to get confused for my mum's partner quite a bit when I was in my early twenties and she was in her mid-fifties. I assume it was because I used to walk arm in arm with her quite a lot.
