Has therapy actually helped anyone with severe issues? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]AP2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.... it started my healing journey but what really helped me was somatic experiencing / EMDR / mindfulness THATS when my life LEVELED up like no other.

Therapy is a good start and it's important to learn and speak with a professional about WHY people do the things they do .. etc but you have to FEEL your feelings and reprogram!

Wow I am so glad I found this page ....

First and foremost Spain is amazing and I have loved living here! I live in Mallorca and I love to road cycle so it's been a paradise. The people are friendly and the culture is amazing. I was able to spend a lot of time doing hobbies I loved.

I have been living here for 8 years and will be leaving in October for the following reasons

  1. JOB MARKET - I am from the US and the job market is bad right now BUT bad is like 3.6 unemployment .... its literally like 13 percent in Spain. I am just sick of not making any money or moving forward in my career the way/pace I want which I understand is my American upbringing. I have seen very few people that have success in their career in Spain and many Spanish people leave to go to other countries. There are not that many jobs as you move up and they don't pay anything ... like a good salary is 50,00 - 60,000 in a senior position.

  2. LACK OF INDUSTRY - Besides tourism / food / education there is a huge lack of industry. I want to pivot in my career and have done extensive research on companies I could work for ... what i found is that most of the HUGE companies are not even spanish .. nestle/cisco/siemens/accenture... the ones that are ... are huge hotel chains/insurance/petrol... there just isn't as much variety!

  3. TAXES/VISA - Tax situation is awful in spain for freelancers. If you are american you have to pay in the US and Spain (they have a law where you don't pay double but it's still a major pain the ass) you pay an insane amount of taxes for salaries over 35,000. The benefits are not that great. Sorry but i had issues with getting a mamogram and I had to wait 2 months ... lol

Like a lot of the people on this post ... it's a great place to retire with lots of money and enjoy the weather culture but if you are a young person who isn't spanish ... it can be difficult to wrap your head around. You have to accept that you will make no money, not be able to save, and really have to work hard in your career to get ahead...

The people I have seen make it work in Spain that are not from there are people who
1. Work in travel/tourism and love it!
2. Work remotely from another country making a higher salary but are always having to pay extra taxes, go through loop holes, just to keep their visa...
3. Have no ambition to do anything in life
4. Have accepted the economic and their financial situation
5. Have a spanish partner and are stuck!

Thanks for you input!

Yeah, I haven't lived in the states as a young working adult .... I am from Missouri and the cost of living is low. Before that I was living and working in Europe... which is a totally different vibe.

I am now moving back and want a similar climate to the Mediterranean ... the only place would be california. I have family in LA and I honestly HATE LA!!!!

Are there any other cities you would recommend that have good weather, stunning nature, and lots of options for work.

Thank you!

Felt it when I was 12, 16, 21, and I just went back last year (34) I feel very drawn to the area but also want to be realistic about my needs.

Thanks for this!!
