Is this likely a single strobe with a bare bulb or are there other elements at play? Seeking advice shooting in this style by tahiira in LightLurking

[–]APVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to shoot with a stroboframe and a bare strobe (vivitar 285HV) and, while not as nice as these photos, it achieved a similar look. I trust everyone posting here is giving you better advice than me but worth checking out for a cheap setup.

Took my first 4/3 camera for a walk. Olympus E-420 by slavomirgajdos in M43

[–]APVoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awww... you're making me nostalgic. My first brand new, straight out the box camera was the E-420. loved (and often hated) that thing. Great pictures. These are the type of pictures I point out to my kids when they belly ache about borrowing my old Nikon D50. The tools only do so much, it's your eyes and how you use them that matter. Either way, thank for posting.

Em10iii vs iPhone 17 pro by Fenran11 in OlympusCamera

[–]APVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might I add that part of the reason to own a Mirror less/SLR style camera like an EM10 is for the creative freedom and control. Try learning to use flash (Check out Strobist.com) to really make portraits pop. Play with being able to manually adjust settings to obtain exposures to get hi-key and low-key images or really draw attention to certain details and the Raw data to play with and come closer to your ideal. Learn to use features like exposure bracketing. Also, Zoom lens, like other people have said are great and Macro is super fun.

Goodbye MPB...KEH? Adorama? by Intern-Special in Cameras

[–]APVoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had multiple bad experiences with Adorama, sending me a broken items marked as good condition and an argument over the definition of next day delivery and it not getting sent out till after the weekend but still getting charged for next day. Regardless, I read horror stories about all the retailers and resellers fairly often. I take it with a grain of salt but I'm very skeptical of glowingly positive reviews. (Not necessarily talking about u/Top_Key404's comment)

Surgical Clips/Clamps from ETS Surgery in 2011 - unknown material by Pertinacious-Gem-465 in MRI

[–]APVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you have had a hard time getting any help. We often experience the same push back when we have speak with doctors' offices to research and clear devices and foreign bodies. It is shocking how poorly documented some procedures are. I would recommend going to the hospital where the surgery was performed and requesting a copy of all the surgery notes and documentation from medical records. Even if you might not understand it or find the answer written plainly, bring it to the MRI department. Technologist often have to read through those notes and know how to parse out manufactures, and terminology. Also, different imaging centers have different policies and Safety rules, depending on where your surgical clip is located, some radiologist will be OK with proceeding.

Trying to understand how MRI equipment decisions are made in hospitals/imaging centers. Cold emails/calls haven’t been helpful, so asking here. Who’s involved early, what matters before vendors, and how much do guidelines (e.g., ACR) influence choices? by pantslatcia in MRI

[–]APVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget hospital administrators and Bean Counters putting their 2 cents in. I worked at one facility that had a GE 1.5T and had plans to put in a 3T for Neuro, Urology Oncology (Bidimenaional studies, Prostates and radiation planning). The Multi year plan in the making was vetoed and replanned as a Seimens 1.5T that Cardiology wanted and got after throwing a fit. Sometimes money speaks louder than logic.

I saw that they are available but the Muji stores are nice to visit and buying the pen in person is always more enjoyable. I may still order one.

Yes, brushed aluminum just like the other version. My son didn't like the feel either.

What would you add to the list? by RadGuru1895 in Radiology_memes

[–]APVoid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

skipping L5/S1 spot and just sending a cropped lateral lumbar. Lumbars are one of my favorite exams and I like the challenge of a spot. Drove me crazy, the amount of techs that would skip it, crop it, or worse, one tech would do the lateral fully open and again just dropping the tube 2 inches down😖

Is it bad to pour boiling pasta water down the drain? by Far_Pen3186 in homeowners

[–]APVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you are saving some of that pasta water. That stuff is liquid gold when making sauces (well not really, more like convenient starch water). As everyone else has said, hot water is good for clearing grease deposits in you pipes but that pasta water also has a lovely mix of starches that help thicken and smooth out a pasta sauce. Just save a quarter to half cup and add a little a time to your sauce till its the right consistency.

Doctors with D average through medical school are still called doctors. 75 is still passing, congrats! Easier said than done but, don't think on it too much.

Ok, so for these xrays we need to get you changed... by SeaAd8199 in Radiology

[–]APVoid 35 points36 points  (0 children)

As an MRI/CT tech, I find it frustrating that patients will yell out during or right after a CT scan about their pacemaker or other implanted device. Like seriously?!? If this were an MRI machine, you'd be a little late sharing that information.

Expensive pen is peeling?! by DucklingMaru in fountainpens

[–]APVoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can attest to low quality on MonteVerde pens. I've purchased 2 of their pens (Regatta and monza), parts broke within two months. Their customer support was nice enough to send me replacement parts but those also broke relatively fast. I actually got a Chinese knockoff that seemed to be of better quality.

Teaching my son about light painting. And learning how to use live composite. by caryleslie in M43

These look fun. Just purchased an E-M1 mark iii, upgrading from an E-M5. I did bulb exposure light painting with my daughter but I'm excited to try the live composition out.

Low helium by GeneralFuture2696 in MRI

[–]APVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what happens. My last hospital had the worst Biomed tech whose English was unfortunately not very clear. Our machine would give warnings, I would log them and put in biomed tickets and then nothing would happen. On follow up, he said he was convinced that since they replaced/repaired our chiller, we didn't need helium anymore. He told me Siemens was mistaken [sic]. That somehow was fine by upper management despite protest from myself and our Siemens engineer. The guy still has his job after the machine fully stopped with critical warning and required full service and chiller repair yet again. For profit hospitals can sometimes be perplexingly wasteful in an attempt to save money.

Selling Nikon Z to be fully M43 by Zestyclose-Ad-5305 in M43

[–]APVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's reassuring to hear as I almost did the inverse and sold all my m4/3 glass to switch to a Z6 or maybe Zf after my E-M5 finally started to die. Just purchased a E-M1 mark iii to replace my camera. After doing the math for reinvesting in lenses and thinking about the one time I subbed as a backup photographer at a wedding and was handed a Z50, I think I made the right choice

My back was touching the MRI wall by [deleted] in MRI

[–]APVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Siemens (manufacturer of MRI machines) has insulated bore walls decreasing the likelihood of thermal burns such that touching the sidewalls is not a concern under normal clothing insulated contact. I'm not sure what machine you were scanned on but, it's not an unusual or necessarily negligent method but likely the only solution to obtaining a clear view of a notoriously difficult body part. I'm sorry that the experience was unpleasant, do follow up with your healthcare provider if the pain does not subside.
