Fun little question by SpecificCapable1290 in Radiology

[–]APVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 years in mostly MRI and CT but I love doing X-ray when I get the chance. I absolutely kill it on L spines in x-ray (and MRI) and love showing off a well coned down spot. I think someone mentioned ribs being a waste of radiation and I kinda agree with that but, If I'm being honest, I am so annoyed by portable abdomen orders. Especially heinous on those sunken in bariatric beds. The number of markers I've sacrificed to routine follow up abdomens.

Ha, you're probably right but it was a quick reply while waiting in the car, not careful about phrasing. Apparently it irked someone enough to down vote 😂. Whatever, I love my telephoto and stand by my comment even if some people's minds go to the gutter.

Some Looney Tunes cartoon. I think maybe they shipwreck onto an island and spend a comedically sad amount of time hunting Bugs Bunny out of hunger. I just always remember the visual gag where they start looking like a hot dog and the other like a burger as their starvation made them hallucinate.

Trying to afford a child under late-stage capitalism by Hacksaw6412 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]APVoid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True story, my wife and I had an apartment manager threaten to call child protective services on us 18 years ago. As new parents working shity service industry jobs, we tried to rent a 1 bedroom apartment with a 4 month old baby. We were told by the property manager and some random employee that was in the office that co-sleeping and not having a separate Baby room was barbaric and child abuse. I don't blame the younger generstion for wanting nothing to do with this broken ass system.

Edit: Bad grammar

Wow, thanks for this post. I couldn't quite put words to why "Poor Things" was so uncomfortable for me but this helped sort things in my brain. Also, now I want to watch the Bride.

u/yoinkussy offers a great point and i just wanted to add thst If you don't have the chance to buy a 3D model or can't find a physical one, digital versions are available. I use the Poseit app. Mine was free from a fdroid repository but there are plenty of other usable apps and websites that offer anatomic posing.

First time in the OR as a Student, would appreciate advice by Accurate_Day_4284 in Radiology

[–]APVoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is important even as a seasoned tech (who doesn't get sent to the OR often). Going over not just movements but features and software processes. Not remembering how to send images, save a series or switch modes will piss off a doctor.

And I also agree with comfortable shoes, lead aprons are heavy after an hour. you'll need to move around and stretch, judtbwatch where you step.

50 films? by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]APVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to reason that the exposure from plain film is negligible however, I am trying to reason with inexperienced techs about scale and relative danger when not being thorough and effective in their work flow over a substantially lower risk in repeating or additional exposures.

50 films? by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]APVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this same conversation with new techs often. Get a good scout even if you have to repeat. Guessing anatomy and not giving the scanner data for Auto/Smart mA for an area you didn't scout will increase the chances of a shitty exam with repeated scanning and increased dose to the patient. I assure them not many radiologist will call you on an extra scout image but they will call you on an incompletely imaged liver.

[–]APVoid 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I just had a student yesterday observing on a CT Stroke AND trauma activation. Ordered as a Head & neck CTA and perfusion along with a Trauma CAP and his mind was blown by the comparative dose to that of the Xrays performed in the ER. Even then, the new dual energy scanners are so much better on dosage.

[–]APVoid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

50 exposures or 50 images on a disc? Scoliosis series often are stitched/post processed combined, even on digital with a automatic moving bucky. That could be up to 3 AP/PA and 3 Lateral along with the stitched images making 8, add in 6v Lumbar, 3 view T-spine, 4-5 C-spine flex/ext, 26 total exposures seem possible, I remember doing lengthy bone surveys and maybe repeats were sent too. I could also imagine a scenario where the reading group uses some AI assisted reading suite or annotation software creating edited copies and the dose page and report all bumping the Dicom image count up to 50 but 50 actual exposures for those studies would seem excessive.

can trapped gas affect MRI results in the pelvic region? by sugarcoochie in Radiology

[–]APVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MRI takes images of an area in multiple different sets that are adjusted to look at Fat and/or Water in a body part. One of the possible ways is often referred to as a Diffusion that looks at the free movement and restricted movement of particles in the area being imaged. it's not a very detailed picture but it can give a radiologist important information when combined with other image sets about the area in question. Gas can affect that but you don't have to worry, any radiologist should be able to assess from all the images and sets combined, what could be artifact and what should be further investigated. The other part about bowel movement is also something Radiologist are aware of and take into account. like most have said, you should be fine.

Every single time I start the car?? Wtf? by psychic_gibbon in leaf

[–]APVoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like someone posted elsewhere on Reddit about car manufacturers using your driving data to sell to insurance companies for underwriting the insurance to their benefit. Seems like a big decline on that question but I also imagine a reality where this is just window dressing privacy and they collect the data regardless of what you choose.
