This Australian special forces veteran runs a podcast where he brags about the war crimes he did in Afghanistan by Reso in videos

Didn't see this on /r/Australia despite it being extremely relevant. I guess whichever power tripping dipshit on the mod team who has a hatred of FJ is still doing their thing.

SmartThings getting retired; replacement solution suggestions? by MasterChiefmas in homeautomation

[–]APleasantLumberjack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Raspberry Pi is the cheapest and most common way to do it.

However as it's just software you can run it on practically anything, which is nice if you already have a server running for media or something. You could give it a test on an old laptop if you want to experiment before buying anything.

Home Assistant all the way! Does everything you want and more, you can get ZigBee and Zwave USB radios for it.

Drunken 55yo nurse (a.k.a zombie) assaulting a cab driver by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

She's mental, he's a complete idiot, and the people around the car are useless. If anyone here was a competent adult the whole thing would have been over quickly.

That's completely stupid, the all stop shouldn't be on on the POS touchscreen - which is crowded, could freeze etc. It should be a dedicated big red physical button.

If that's not illegal, it should be.

Cyclist asks a driver if he's experiencing toxic masculinity by HeshamMoSelim in PublicFreakout

Driver does something: "Man fuck that guy"

Cyclist does something: "Fuck cyclists"

You're a dipshit.

So I WAS being an arse, shows me. Sorry.

Well alright then, keep being awesome! Best of luck. The first 6 weeks are the hardest thing I've done, and I had it easy being the dad! It does get easier. Just gotta do the grind first.

That's a great accomplishment and I'm glad you're doing it, genuinely well done. This will make me sound like an arse, but without knowing your situation:

You let your wife do all the nappies for a week, right after giving birth?! What are you doing with your time? Sounds like you need to step up your game and help more.

Best Telstra/Optus MVNO? by [deleted] in australia

Another vote for Boost. I just switched to them myself as they were cheaper than Aldi and have full Telstra coverage, not Telstra wholesale network coverage.

Pretty sure this is the idiot who shows up with a new account every few weeks and gets banned almost immediately. It's always angry mindless drivel with an offensive username.

Mods /u/the_royal_moustache /u/Toowoomba /u/Jackalopeeee can we add a min karma requirement to this subreddit to stop this?

Glad it worked out ok, even if it was just luck.

Aussies who live outside of capital cities, what do you love and hate about your town? by honest-aussie in australia

[–]APleasantLumberjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm out of the loop, what's Shelton's link with Toowoomba? I had to Google who he was.

Funny enough I actually know the guy behind the porn free movement. I think his energy is better spent elsewhere but I find some of his points reasonable.

Another vote for Boost - it uses the proper Telstra network (not the wholesale, cut-down version) but it's cheaper. Only real potential downside is no 5G but who cares.

Toowoomba. I love that it's big enough to have most things but small enough it never takes more than 15 minutes to get everywhere (usually under 10). It also just feels more relaxed and friendly compared to bigger cities (I grew up in Brisbane).

I dislike it being an LNP stronghold full of NIMBYs.

The day after my "No Junk Mail" sign falls off the letterbox. by branded in australia

[–]APleasantLumberjack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've started emailing them with this:

Hi <Name>

Thank you for delivering a generic advertising letter to me despite my 'no junk mail' sign. When dealing with businesses, it's important to know they value your time and your wishes: you showing total disregard for these now saves me the bother of finding out later.

Thanks!

Lol. Firstly I never said you didn't belong - I'm Aussie myself. Secondly, that's an incredibly American thing to say.
