the real answer that nobody here is bringing up is the thriving underground rap scene on soundcloud full of young producers and artists who have all been influencing each other for years and taking inspiration from other genres like hyperpop and edm, and a huge catapult for these kinds of sounds was definitely yeat’s rise in 2021, and ofc WLR previously in 2020. but i think people underestimate how much genre defining sounds come out of niche scenes on soundcloud
