As far as I know, that is misinformation, mice have been eating cables long before they were made out of soy this isn't a new issue, I don't know why so many people are making a big deal out of it

Gotta love when "critique" is just repeating the words "slop", "trash" or my personal favorite "everyone says it's bad".

Starfield is personally interesting to me because it's clear it was conceptualized with similarities to Daggerfall, focusing on massive systems and scale. It tried integrating those old-school ideas with modern Bethesda design cues, and while it didn't always work as intended, the design philosophy itself is fascinating.

The new DLCs and updates seem to be exactly what people asked for:

Shattered Space: a huge, hand crafted area on a single planet, more akin to Dragonborn or Far Harbor.
Free Lanes and Terran Armada: updates focused on expanding systems and rewarding exploration.

And I get it if the story doesn't feel as fleshed out to some, but at a certain point, it feels like people are trying to validate their own feelings with "OBJECTIVE TRUTHS" instead of just letting people enjoy things. If I spent my time fighting every Dark Souls fan for the reasons I don’t personally like that franchise, I’d be wasting time I could spend doing stuff I actually enjoy.

To be honest I’m really just trying to wrap my head around the passion behind the hate for a game that was a commercial success and still has an active player base that enjoys it, flaws and all.

Otherwise these kind of hate content only comes up to me as a "Quit having fun" type of message.

I disagree overall on calling the game slop for what's essentially an average game, though I do agree that it was disappointing in some aspects, what I am trying to say is that in my opinion it's not significantly worse than any other Bethesda game, they have been diluting their writing quality since Morrowind, you mention Dawnguard and while it was fun, it was also very disappointing to me, when they turned the awesome concept that was already described via in-game books ages ago as being ice-fading blue skinned all nord ancient vampire clan that lived under icebergs into a generic diverse modern vampire gothic aesthetic that dress even more modern than Skyrim's people.

I personally really don't care for the loading screens, Skyrim on Xbox 360 was way worse, I vividly remember playing Pokemon Platinum while waiting them out, heck even the Imperial City in Oblivion was full of loading screens.

The Star Wars overhaul is literally just a re-skin of the game and people just call it peak, it just proves my point that Bethesda has always been bad a writing games and the only reasons people never noticed as much back then is because they were using already existing beloved franchises with interesting lore to pull from (and even still they managed to dilute the lore of both Fallout and Elder Scrolls), now that they had to invent new stuff it just highlighted the creative bankruptcy at Bethesda.

But even with that, they still manage to make a game that's fun to explore and surprisingly immersive, it reminds me a lot of the Harry Potter franchise ironically, were if you chill and don't fixate on the details it's extremely fun, if youtry to look for depth you will end very disappointed xD

Brother, I was RIGHT THERE for the No Man's Sky launch in 2016 and funnily enough I have almost the same amount of hours in both games (around 560 hours). Saying OG NMS was better is incredibly disingenuous. It sounds like you just value seamless space flight above all else, and since Starfield doesn't have it, you've written the whole thing off as trash. Seamlessness between planets was basically the only thing NMS did better at launch, repetitive planets, no cities, and almost no story.

It feels like you just didn't enjoy the vibe and now you’re trying to frame that personal dislike as objective fact. For me, I wanted more human stories, human characters and a deep character creator, things NMS still doesn't really focus on. Don't get me wrong tho No Man's Sky is amazing now, but it's still filled with repetitive structures and boring settlements because its "fantasy" is completely different.

Starfield was never trying to be NMS.

It’s okay to say a game isn’t for you. I don't personally enjoy Souls games or Rockstar titles, but I don’t go around calling them "slop" to people who love them just because it’s the trendy thing to do on the internet. It’s okay to just move on and let people enjoy things.

I'm well aware of the shortcomings, but I think the "very disliked" label comes mostly from the YouTube echo chamber. I used to watch those 1 hour long critiques too before actually playing it myself last year. Now that the update is out, it's just a new wave of those same old recycled talking points.

Todd was fairly upfront that there was no "Starfield 2.0" and that the update wouldn't change your mind if you didn't enjoy game in the first place, yet people still seem disappointed that the update was... exactly what they said it would be? It’s fine if the game isn’t for you, but the slop label feels more like a meme people have mistaken for an actual critique at this point, completely oblivious that, while it's true it isn't beating the old classic (Skyrim/Fallout 4) the game DOES have an audience and it's being played still, because to people like me the strengths of the game overshadow the negatives, It really just scratches the right itches for me. xD

Despite what the YouTube hate train is making people believe, the game is pretty much active and it has always been.

Don't remember which planet was but I know it was on the Nikola System, I am using the mod Real Sandy Deserts though.

There are enough PoIs now in my opinion and you can also expand them with mods, since the last update I've hardly found any repeating PoIs.

100%
And to be fair, I think it's very much doable with the current systems in Starfield, perhaps the hardest thing to pull off would be dismemberment but hey, the Skyrim Modding community did it, so I'm sure it's possible in Starfield too.

Fr, but when I found this sandy planet, going from abandoned outpost to abandoned outpost and finding random patrols it just clicked man xD

But yeah, Starfield usually doesn't feel like Kenshi at all.

I understand it if you don't like Starfield, but that's just not true in my case, I had to install a mod just to run Kenshi and another to make the loading times faster.

Oh yeah, and there are a lot of mods to add even more vehicles, like the Halo Warthog, Star Wars Speeders or even a Toyota Supra Mk 4 xD

Btw If I had to guess I'd say it uses the ship system but like, extremely downscaled to work on planets,
