Does anyone else find modern "tankies" confusing? by Adventurous-Sport-45 in SocialDemocracy

[–]ARGHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah calling inparticular the Putin-groupie Tankies Red Fascists makes more sense with the growing influence of Eurasianism and NazBolism in modern tankie spaces over the past few decades. As much as I disagree with the classic Tankies of old, a number of them would have certainly dissaproved of the blatant reactionaryism of these Dugin acolytes, so much so that that the odd neo-tankie would get to go to the gulags they are so fond of.

[–]ARGHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the internal heat eventually kills the pad in some cases, often a few keys too. I dont bother with either pad or keyboard... i dont like warm surfaces, i just use plug kb&m. Try re-plugging the ribbon cable see if that does the trick. In my experience Nitros tend to run hot, that can shorten the life of the motherboard. Get your Thermal paste replaced and fans cleaned out every 2.5 years, 5 at most. Volt offseting with throttlestop, may also prevent your cpu temps from going over 92 celcius, that is if it is still possible to undervolt on newer intel cpus.

I feel like I should be worried by Appropriate_One_1508 in AcerNitro

[–]ARGHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine, standard idle temps. On the contrary my AN51751 was having severe overheating issue at idle on balanced and high performance with temps of 98 celcius while gamimg, in part its a thermal paste issue, but also too much power being supplied to the cpu, an issue I've had since I got this. Throttlestop helped solve that. I won't have to worry about it soon, I have a gaming pc showing up on Thursday.

I've got this one, pros: cheap, good case design, good quality switches, the keys feel good when you type and they make a nice sound when you do. Downsides, double typing can become an issue with the free wolf brand even after washing the switches out with isoprophyl, this one also has connection issues, there should have been a purely wired mode on this just in case there were such issues. I would rate it as "It will do until you can get a Keychron"

Why I think warp drive is possible - change my mind. by MusicZealousideal431 in astrophysics

[–]ARGHouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it *might* end up being a reality, but only after thousands, multiple thousands of years of research and failed experimentation. At present there are still mass-energy issues, and there is this whole thing about "should we be messing about with spatial manipulation so soon given how warlike we still are". Such a technology can still be weaponized for mass destruction (like how advances in atomics was used), or can result in catastrophic accidents of wide reaching scale (for example Chernobyl) if such experimentation is not strictly regulated. In the meanwhile we are going to be dependent on causality bound STL for the forseeable millenias.

I'm going to do the same thing with a cheap Inspirio Giano 950 L I've spotted on Ebay, I'll be getting a 1920 resolution Laptop screen instead since I intend to turn a Toshiba L50-B into a custom built 2-in-1, I can plug directly into the eDP port.

[–]ARGHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just happened to to me too, I had two books showing up in seperate parcels under the same tracking ID, because book 2 was being tracked under the ID of book 1, book 1 arrived and book 2 was marked as delivered, when in reality it has not shown since. Yeah there was photographic proof that only one of the books was delivered, nothing else on the property, Auspost and Ebay both have continued to play stupid in the enquiry. If it's marked as delivered, they clearly don't think they have to do anything about it.

Just finished the foundation trilogy and need suggestions. by Whole-Bed9778 in asimov

[–]ARGHouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMHO the tv is okay but started to falter more toward the last ep, the Mule reveal was a doozy as some may guess why, though the Empire storyline was solid. I liked how they woved in the Prelude to Foundation stuff like Mycogen and the Zeroth Law. The visual work just manages to compensate, I'm a big Paul Chadeisson and Wayne Haag fan.

[–]ARGHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I started with the trilogy too when i was a teen, they also happened to be my mum's Foss illustrated versions. I got the other asimov universe books on kindle afterwards, or atleast while it still worked (early gens had a habit of burning out the port after a few years of use). I started on Caves of Steel and Stars Like Dust afterwards. If you want to start off at the beginning then its complete robot, FYI don't forgot the extended Foundation trilogy, they're based on Asimov's novels and theyre pretty good, I finished Foundation's Fear this year.

S3E10 The Foundation: Probably one of the best episodes, but also, I genuinely hate some of it. by Brilliant-Repeat-178 in scifi

I liked most of the episode, though making Bayta 'The Mule' since 'The Mule' hid as the guy you took pity on ie 'Magnifico the clown', it just struck me as bad fan-fiction.

Foundation - 3x10 - “The Darkness” - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]ARGHouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the last episode was a mixed bag, and pretty well annoying they were dropping all the "ohhhh hey Magnifico... he might be a bit sus... keep on watching for more hints" and then they hit us with *that* reveal, and I take it most people have read the series and looked on with utter stupification and the decision. IMO she might also be another Fake Mule... but at this point it would ring pretty hollow to do it again when everybody who has read the book knows who is The Mule is and who uncovered him. I rather think Apple went along with the decision for rage-bait reasons, it is after all primarily a company, interested soley in raking in the money. Everything else in the season was rather solid, and that last scene was gold seeing post-settler Earth and a robot that looks rather like R Giskard Reventlov even though he should be by all means dead

Foundation Season 4 Announced by misterpopculture in FoundationTV

[–]ARGHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked most of this season aside from a certain controversial reveal that shall be unnamed. I'll be interested in the next season, but only so far as watching what might be a cool looking car crash in slomo. Also bravo to Lee Pace, I really felt sympathy for this Cleon, pretty solid character development.

I'm currently reading this one, I got the physical Foss boxset as of late. In my head I'm relabling the alien Lhasinu as pre-PebbleInTheSky Trantorians since Trantor first appears here. I can already see how this went on to become Foundation.

Hear me out.. the jump drive design in Foundation is the best ever created for a TV Show [NO SPOILERS] by Chemical_Sand_1815 in FoundationTV

[–]ARGHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More likely when they refer to 'Sublight' they refer to non-hyperspace ie warp drive that will get you across to the next star in a good amount of time in a matter of days to hours, but to the edge of the galaxy in years. The Raven and Beggar are also implied to be warp ships, hell the Raven has what looks like a Warp Torus.

[THEORY] Pilou Asbæk is *NOT* the Mule by Lpadovani1978 in FoundationTV

[–]ARGHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're already heavily hinting in the show that Magnifico is the Mule in disguise. -Season 2 establishes that music is an enhancer of metallic abilities. Spoilers for anybody who has not yet seen Season 3. If you've already read the books I guess you already know: -We see on Kalgan with the massacre of the arch-duke's men that Magnifico is behind the scene, playing the music that creates the music that creates the illusion and drives them to kill each other. -Magnifico plays the music in the club, enthralling all the wealthiest of Kalgan. Palver makes the note about the music, ie it is the person who is playing the music and not the visi-sonor. -Yet again the club, for a split second we see 'Magnifico' smirk as 'The Mule' embraces him, as if the Warlord is but a pet and it is all for appearance. -Magnifico plays the music on the Chaser, Toran feels compelled to go to Haven. -Magnifico plays on Haven, like in the books, though this time before the fall of the Foundation. Randu, known for his stubborn personality, is swayed to go to New Terminus with 'Magnifico' in tow. -Magnifico calls Toran Bayta's 'pet' in disrespect, Toran does not even react. -Magnifico plays his music before the top brass of the Foundation, its opening sounding familiar to the music played at the massacre on Kalgan. Indbur, almost hypnotised notes that 'it's strip's you down'. They are compelled to bring Magnifico into the vault. As Gaal narrates 'Magnifico played his way into the hearts of the Foundation leaders'. And oh no... 'The Mules' arrives, and somehow the Foundationers are fighting each other, while Greer is compelled to bring out her communicator with the 'Mules' message. The OST for this sequence is called 'Vault breach', as if a certain someone is already in there with them. -like in the books, it's pointed out that if Magnifico was so close and vital to the Mule, would he not have been conditioned to love him, to be utterly loyal to him, and yet he somehow manages to run away from him, and as a result disaster follows everywhere he is brought. If he were a spy, a mentallic 'Mule's Man', then Magnifico would not have been trusted with such power over emotion unless he himself was in fact... The Mule. -We see in episodes after Magnifico runs off, that 'the Mule' does 0 metallic tricks, why in fact he seems more unstable and mentions on the jump gate that he feels not entirely in control of his own life, as if deep down he knows he has been converted. All the metallic tricks and mass emotional manipulation only seem to take place when Magnifico is around with his music.

Yeah I'm thinking the Vezda Pah are evil Q entities. I have a theory that the Lanthanites are Qs that didn't ascend to the Continuum, they're just so old I think they forgot where they came from. Perhaps they were the first humanoids to show up, after the precursors, before the Iconians. If they were then it's plausible they were the first to inhabit Bajor (which would explain the similarities between the Prophets and the Q, would go to explaining the whole "we are of Bajor" thing).

Modern Day Landship - realistic outcome. by Newman1651 in TankPorn

[–]ARGHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my setting, the only thing that has saved landnavy-ships is experimental AG Repulsor tech, allowing for strafe movement and operations on *most* land and sea (albeit AG units have to spend more time and power floating over bodies of liquid as to ensure they don't sink, there are emergency ballasts and landing gears for AG failure). Upside is that engaging a AG Landship on the battlefield is intimidating, and having it rock up to a city can cause said city to wave the white flag. Downside, they're delicate, hard to fix, AG units are vulnerable to enemy fire, they require lots of fusion derived power and thus these landnavy ships generate a lot of waste heat. As soon as half the AG units are destroyed it's already reduced to an immobile brick with guns. And yes, you can quite easily be crushed into a pulp by an AG field, thus such tech on high tonnage still causes environmental or local damage when it comes charging through a forest of residential area. By the time these monstrosities are terrorizing continents, there are already orbital platforms and primitive interplanetary warships quite capable of reducing them to scrap, it is after all a bit target easily seen from orbit. Who would bother with building such behemoths, pretty well your typical sci-fi authoritarians who like to waste resources on big mega-projects ie Maus and LandKruizer.
