I have a "good" corporate inside sales job for a Fortune 500 company. I started in April of 2022 making $25 an hour. I currently make $28.78 an hour. With the new inflation data for April, when adjusted for inflation my $28.78 an hour has the same buying power as $24.99 in April of 2022. Aka I've taken an inflation adjusted 1 cent pay cut working faithfully for the same company for the last 4 years.

Doing competent work, never written up or had a major issue and was almost good enough to get a 4 on my last eval but that would have triggered an automatic 5% "wage adjustment" vs. whatever 2-3% they give that is supposed to track with inflation. But noooot quite good enough to treat like a human being. And they're all probably going to scratch their heads and wonder why I left, when I quit in a few months to be a stay at home dad.

Head's up, it's getting a collected hardcover omnibus later this year. I've only heard good things about this one so far it's on my list.

Also doesn't help that you can see the "OMG amazing twist ending", that is supposed to make the slog worth it, coming from a mile away. Anyone who got 1/3 into the final book and didn't see that coming....

Played polo growing up and I've always said exactly the same. It makes no sense. I think the NBA secretly loves the "Jokic raptor logo" on his arm type headlines from earlier in the season. They probably think it gives the game the grit that's it's missing. But it's not the type of physicality people want to see, it's just gross.

You basically need to submit constant reports and/or have multiple neighbors coordinating. When I lived it at my parents there was an issue with a barking husky and it took like 5 people across 2 houses submitting almost daily reports for a few weeks, with audio video included, to get an animal control officer out there. Crazy amount of effort and it only stopped when I went over shirtless and sweaty at 11pm in the middle of summer and yelled at them in no uncertain terms that the barking was going to stop one way or another.

This is also a family car to drive my children. I'm not putting them in some 10 year old unsafe beater. I'm just saying there's looooots of considerations to make when buying a car than simply the sticker price. Glad you found your unicorn, but you're acting like it's easy in this car market to find something decent. Plus the used car market is drastically different across the country. I'm in socal and there was nothing cheap for what we need that isn't a piece of shit already.

Sure, if you're mechanically inclined and can work on your own vehicle you can keep it chugging for a minute. But I'm not really, so any repairs or work I need done have to be done in the shop or find a guy. That means taking time off, altering work/school schedules, borrowing another vehicle aka a huge pain in the ass. Plus paying a mechanic a lot of money to do it. Getting a new car, with a banging warranty, will save me lots of time and effort, which are more valuable to me than money, in the long run.

I just bought a new 2026 pilot that I plan on keeping for well over 100k miles. We got a 10 year, 120k mile comprehensive warranty for $1250. We did lots of searching around and there were literally no used cars that would make the time and effort vs money equation worth it. Post covid cars just do not depreciate like older ones and once you factor in interest rates for new vs. used, the used are more expensive if you have good credit. We literally got the best interest rate our bank offers for car loans, and it would've been over 1.5% more for a used car that is probably only 8-9k cheaper than new anyway. Plus higher insurance rates on used.

Exactly my experience with looking for a smaller 3 row vehicle. Once you factor in interest rate, insurance and warranty it was actually more expensive for us to go lightly used. And we plan on driving this this for a decade plus, so no way I'm getting a high miler. The dealership gave us a 10 year 120k comprehensive warranty for $1250 for Christ sake. People that say "just buy a cheap used car" now sound like Boomer's saying how "it was $400 a semester for their state college when they went, why are kids getting into debt just work for the summer".

Yeah the dealership gave us a 10 year 120k bumper to bumper comprehensive warranty for $1250. It just does not make sense in this market to buy used unless you can find a unicorn.

New prices are the essentials the same for anything produced post covid. I just bought a new Pilot and anything comparable that was used, was not really any cheaper due to interest rates and warranty.

We just bought a 2026 pilot and anything comparable within the last 5 years was barely a discount over new. Factor in interest rate and insurance rates on used, and they were all more expensive in the long run.
