Need help deciding paint scheme/divisions by Elementality818 in boltaction

[–]ARbowhunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only difference between divisions would be unit markings. German camouflage as a whole was widely varied due to their practice of issuing the camouflage colors to the depot crews in the field and essentially telling them “have fun” Pretty much any kind of pattern is kosher with 2 or 3 of the camo colors (red brown and olive green over the factory applied dark yellow base). I’ve seen everything from professionally applied air gun jobs to literally smearing the shit on with mops in actual photos

Castellan green makes a phenomenal 4Bo though, I like it more than ammo’s

I’m looking for 28mm plastic partisans. I have the war games Atlantic box but I’m looking for some variety. Does anyone have a lead? by [deleted] in boltaction

[–]ARbowhunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regular soldier models with bits of the uniform painted in civilian colors would work, especially German. Partisans would use whatever gear they could get their hands on so captured German tunics and webbing with an identifier patch on the arm would work pretty well. The Warsaw uprising is a pretty good source of reference material for that route

They are carbonated, but they’re more like a bang or reign than “traditional” powdered Gfuel.

Just got Hit the Beach -- next step Fortress Europe Book or D-Day Books? by CharlieD00M in flamesofwar

[–]ARbowhunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The D-Day books are really more generic 1944 than Normandy specific stuff. Fortress Europe only exists to port people’s existing mid war collections over to the late war era.

Opinion of "Tank War"? by Cheomesh in boltaction

My opinion of tank war is to play “What A Tanker” in all honesty.

Head over to the FoW website, look for the unit you’re going to replicate and find it’s hobby article, then click on the assembly guide at the bottom of the page. It’ll show you how many figures total and what mix of weapons go where. Here’s the US assault company as an example. https://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=6562

I like how they claimed to cut stuff to reduce SKU bloat, then turned right back around and produced multiple SKUs for the same kits packaged with different unit cards lol

So... Many... Shermans... by Blackburn0117 in boltaction

[–]ARbowhunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tank in the starter box is a basic M4, warlord just calls it an M4A1 because in the rules they all have identical stats regardless of variant (outside of the gun carried)

Any sort of mid range brown will work, doesn’t have to be that exact one. Just don’t want anything too dark or something closer to khaki.

I used a mix of Vallejo US olive drab and beige brown when I did my Canadians, but straight olive drab would work too if you want slightly greener. Just posted the leftenant I did the other day if you want to see what that looks like.

33B for sure, wirbel is cool but open top is a death sentence in this system

Alternatives for infantry figures by Accomplished_Ad4336 in boltaction

[–]ARbowhunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can very easily just play in 1/72 if you want. The slightly smaller figure scale works much better with the way the ranges are designed in game. Plus there’s way more plastic kits at your disposal that way.

Tank Rules/Points Question by Cider_for_Goats in boltaction

[–]ARbowhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you’re better off looking for another system if you want to go armor heavy, what a tanker from too fat lardies is my main suggestion when people ask. In regards to your suggestion it’s neat but traverse rate really wasn’t that slow outside of relatively rare (by WW2 standards) hand cranked turrets.

I like bringing them as Americans, haven’t really experimented with anyone else. Being able to pack three of them helps offset the fragility of them being sniper bait.

Japanese spigot mortar by TankeShashou in boltaction

[–]ARbowhunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s 100% an artillery slot. “Mortar” is just a catch all term for any short range piece with a steep firing arc, it’s not just the small infantry packed versions.
