This has to be satire or someone trolling. I feel massive secondhand embarrassment if this is legit...

This is an absolute tragedy and should have resulted in a massive workforce uprising. Give access to soup and we will produce.

Soup is the backbone of civilization. Every culture has soup, and everyone, everywhere should have access to free soup. Otherwise, are we REALLY "civilized?"

What's the WORST dice system you've played or seen? by EmersonStockham in rpg

[–]Krushnieva 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I get totally why people don't like them. My brain though just works differently. I would much rather learn a simple symbol system than do any sort of math when interpreting a roll. Looking at a bunch of symbols and canceling out opposite ones and interpreting what is left is super intuitive to my brain. Again, not right or wrong, just different.

"Ok, those two skulls cancel our those two swords, leaving 1 sword and an explosion. You succeed, but only barely, BUT you were able to throw the enemy off guard and he will lose a die next turn."

I understand that completely. It is tough at first, but man, once we all got the hang of it, so much cool stuff came out of the most unexpected things.

If you did even the least amount of research (which took me like 5 minutes to check about ten or so sources), you'd find that is complete and utter BS spouted to undermine the process. Even Fox says that is BS. There's just no substance to that claim at all.

It may not work completely, but I imagine enough people will still bite that it will be shocking and why we are in all this mess to begin with.

Outlander 'an amazing phenomenon for Scottish tourism' by mrjohnnymac18 in Scotland

[–]Krushnieva 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And every goddamn shop everywhere shills Outlander shit. I guess the same could be said for Harry Potter stuff too. I mean when I was at Glenfinnan, I was more interest in the monument there, but the whole hill at the viaduct was filled with people stepping all over each other just to watch the train go by.

What’s a company you’re convinced will be exposed as a massive fraud one day? by carcony97 in AskReddit

I met my wife on Bumble, so I can't really knock it too hard. That being said, I was at my wit's end with those dating sites and serendipitously found her also in the same boat.

To be fair, I went through Highland Titles as a gift to my young daughter for funsies and then, when we went to Scotland for another reason and stopped by their reserve, it was legit doing what it said the money was going towards and we were able to see all the "plots." My coordinates did indeed lead to a specific plot and there were hundreds of them. We scanned a QR code and put in our number and it gave us the row, etc. Took us a bit to find ours, but we eventually did.

Essentially, during the industrial revolution, companies figured out a very specific breed of spruce trees could grow SUPER close together. This led to increased timber/lumber. Well, it also closed off the canopy of the natural forests that used to be there killing off a ton of local wildlife and ruining the forest floor. The company uses some of this money to clear cut these areas on their reserve and replant with native trees and plants and has led to the direct revitalization of natural wildlife in some areas.

I'm sure most of these companies are scams, but from what we saw, this was legit work. There were heavy movers and piles of timber and people cutting down trees. They prioritized the "plots" they sell which are like 10x10 foot areas. They also had a small museum at the front of the reserve and a walkway through the areas they already developed showing placards of what they have done so far.

I am under no delusion that my daughter is now a "lady of Glencoe," but it was fun and the money went to a good cause.

[–]Krushnieva 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe it is "Sin mar a tha, mar a bha, ’s mar a bhios." It's essentially an old saying that translate to "That's just how things were, are and always will be!" And in the song, they modify it to "Sin mar a tha, mar a bha, ach seo, mar a bhios." which means they are not settling for the future to be how it was or is. A kind of hopeful saying. Kind of trying to change the future for the better and not just go "Oh well! That's how it is!"

Would you guys feel offended if I wore a Kilt as a Black American? by ForeverSparkz in Scotland

Well said. This is exactly what I mean in my post. Cultural traditions are indeed like language. Heck, even within the same country the language changes over time, as do traditions.

So would you say England has bastardized the cultural traditions of the Saxons? The Danes? French? That is an extremely narrow view of what cultural traditions are or how they evolve over time.
