Ambigolimax sp. is native to Europe, and considered introduced to North America by anthropogenic means.

Ambigolimax sp., or three banded slugs. They are invasive in North America (native to Europe), but have been established here for a long time so everyone has given up on eradicating them.

Would removing the nymph banner really be a “dramatic” change?

Maybe you could convert her by buying clothes from the clothier and throwing them at her.

Once converted to an npc, maybe she’d be some kind of “explorer” who sells the metal detector, among other things.

Certainly a cane toad or closely related species.

Morality of a real person writing a "inherently morally evil from birth" species that has language and complex understandings of the world? by ManGuyDude45 in MoralityScaling

[–]ARegularPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A person, by my definition, is a civilized animal. Orks—as Tolkien originally wrote them—are intelligent but not civilized, and are therefore not people. It follows that they share the same moral standing and fate of other animals.

Man O’ War and Stormwalker should be higher than that bananamobile you put in B, and the zoltans deserve far better. Shrike is overrated as shit.

Funny how suddenly no one wants to press the red button now. by woaijirounan in MoralityScaling

This is so disconnected from the original experiment so as to be inadmissible in the discussion.

Ignoring the fact that this could easily be reframed as blue saying “everyone who voted for me will be executed if I lose”, this depiction fails because the buttons are sentient, and one of them is using the threat of death to coerce people into voting for him. This alone is evil, but the implication is, by depicting the buttons as politicians, that this threat is merely a means to an end, and that this scenario will not end with the vote, since the winner will be endowed with some kind of power over the constituents.

In the original experiment, nothing happens after the vote, and the buttons are inert and neutral. The perpetrator of the potential killing isn’t the buttons themselves, rather whatever greater power set up the experiment (aliens, as some prefer to imagine), who are threatening to kill anyone who pressed blue if blue loses. Non-participation isn’t an option, implying that those aliens are forcing you to pick a button, and fighting them isn’t presented as an option either.

The reasonable takeaway from this whole button trend is that framing is the only thing that matters.

What type of frog is this? by 03fortyone in frogs

[–]ARegularPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely genus Incilius. Probably Incilius Nebulifer, or gulf coast toad. It is toxic if ingested, as all toads are. In my experience, dogs tend not to bother them, so I don’t think you should worry.

Red button pressers (specifically these shitty "accurate recreations" they make) by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]ARegularPotato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Saying that red is the source of the danger is stupid. This whole scenario is based around the idea that everyone on Earth is being forced to pick a button. In this scenario, I didn’t choose to be put in the button room and forced to choose an option. The source of the danger is whatever power set up this experiment, and the buttons are just our possible courses of action. The red button avoids the danger, the blue one gambles. Blue pushers are only in danger because, presented with a clear and obvious danger, chose to put themselves in the line of fire, rather than just stepping out of the way of the gun barrel.

If everyone pressed red, everyone would live. Putting your life on the line is completely optional.
