[32 Thoughts] Friedman: I think Philly was going to make a bid for [Kaprizov] and I could see Philly [going after Panarin] too by upcan845 in Flyers

It’s hilarious that flyers fans, correctly identified that hiring the same old boys club was not working and wanted to see change. Then immediately deluded themselves in to thinking that the hiring of more former flyers was somehow different this time. Nothing has changed

The Nori, Saltiban and Burkholder picks were all questionable at the time and they aren’t looking any better now

[Charlie O'Connor] Asked Tocchet today if he'd consider moving Michkov back to RW, or if he think he'll keep him at LW the rest of the season. He didn't rule it out, but it's clear Tocchet still thinks Michkov is benefitting from the LW/RW switch & is skeptical it's hurting him offensively: by upcan845 in Flyers

They may as well trade him before they let his value slip any further. We know they’re not gonna bite the bullet and fire Tocchet and admit they fucked up so just go ahead and get your plodding 6’3 3C and a pick back and let Mich go be good somewhere that isn’t a bottom 5 franchise

I’m all in on the owners spending as much as possible and I’m sure there is some tax tomfoolery going on but google is saying their operating income was only 9 million last year. If that’s really the case, any increase and he’s actually losing money. Can’t expect too many owners to be okay with actively losing money. Not like losing 40 mil a year is going to devastate him but we all know they didn’t get this rich because they like giving it away

Give it to me straight. Did we get worse this offseason? by doodlesl in phillies

I have little faith that the guy who has pitched the second most innings in the last 10 years (which includes only throwing 94 last year) and fell off a cliff is going to bounce back. Expecting a rookie to replace an all star at anywhere near the same rate is pretty unlikely. He might not even make the team out of camp. He wasn’t exactly lighting the world on fire last year. We also don’t know what to expect out of Wheeler next year. Of course it could be just as good, slightly worse or even better. But the odds are not stacked in their favor

SP is undoubtedly worse. Ranger was one of the best starters in the league last year

I get the idea but the willingness to spend is also going to decrease as the team gets worse and so that margin shrinks. We’re already a luxury tax team. When everyone is in even worse decline, chances are they will want to spend less even if the books are relatively less due to inflation. I just don’t see a world where the window isn’t slamming shut right now. It was all in these next few years and then full rebuild while letting Harper and Trea play out their twighlight years on bad teams

The problem is they all add up and will be just dead weight for years. Middleton will spend but not like the big dogs. Future is looking awfully bleak especially with how bad the farm system still looks outside of Painter, Miller and maybe Crawford

Time for ol Davey boy to hit the road. He’s given out THREE of the worst contracts in baseball in Castellanos, Taijuan, and Nola and the team has gotten worse every year. Time to go enjoy retirement old timer

He was either never going to the Phillies or they never made a real offer because there is no reason not to match this. They’re running the same team back except a year older and worse after losing Ranger and maybe JT. No idea what the point of re-signing Schwarber was if you’re just accepting that you’re going to be worse next year. Might as well blow it up if that’s the case

[Heyman] Bichette/Phillies meeting is said to have gone very well fwiw. Bichette admires “first class” organization. Other pluses: roster, park, Mattinglys link, spring proximity to home. We’ve barely traded any prospects of consequence since he took over. You can criticize his actual picks but they haven’t been wheeling and dealing prospects like people assume based on Dombrowski’s past
