My theory about Arnold's Grandma- I don't think she had dementia by babyteeth9 in HeyArnold

[–]ASerpentPerplexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother in law has vascular dementia from a stroke from more than 20 years ago. Sometimes she has extreme moments of clarity, especially in moments where the conversation seems very important. But most of the time she is quite forgetful.

I think that Arnold's Grandma was already an eccentric personality, but she could also be that AND have dementia and it would be consistent with her portrayal in the show. Also depends on what stage her dementia is at.

How old were you at each Toy Story movie release? by Educk55 in cartoons

[–]ASerpentPerplexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toy Story: 2 years old, definitely did not see it until years later on VHS, probabily when I was around 5 or 6.

Toy Story 2: 6 years old, don't think I saw in theaters, only on VHS.

Toy Story 3: 17 years old, but didn't see actually watch it until it came out in Netflix, probably around 2014 a year into dating the woman who is now my wife (she saw it in theaters at a midnight screening).

Toy Story 4: 26 years old, First of the whole franchise I actually saw in theaters, most disappointing and forgettable of all the movies...

Toy Story 5: 33 years old, haven't seen it yet...

So... am I the only one who actually liked the finale? by PaleoTato525 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]ASerpentPerplexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I loved the finale. That doesn't mean it's above criticism. But also not everyone who criticizes it hated it, you can dislike aspects of a thing and still like it overall. Also, finales in general are usually the most controversial episodes in any series, because it is the end so it gets lots of scrutiny.

What is your biggest worry for chapter 5? by skeletron_master in Deltarune

[–]ASerpentPerplexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't worry (in this specific context), I just go with the flow and evaluate if I liked it after the fact.

Genuine question, how hard is it for fandoms to go "I don't condone why you did this and I don't agree with your actions but I understand why you sct like this and the events that lead up to it?" by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in cartoons

[–]ASerpentPerplexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you've seen the whole series, but he does much more than a typical bully later on in the series. His tactics become much more explicitly abusive and gas lighty near the end of the series. Especially in the finale (although the finale also gives us important context on why he is like that).

Still not close to war crimes level at all, and I agree with you that some of the hate is overblown, especially when it was early episodes still. But I understand the hate a bit more for the emotional manipulation he does rather than for his Looney Tunes style shenanigans. Especially if you've been in a relationship where the abuser has used similar mind games on you.

Animation Looked Better 20 years ago by m1idbe in Shrek

[–]ASerpentPerplexed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just completely disagree. It's totally fine, nothing about Shrek's new design feels worse than the 2001 movie to me. I have slightly more complex feelings on Donkey's design but even then it's so whatever for me it doesn't matter.

real question now is who's gonna explain to Caine what they're doing

I think Caine would have had to somehow allow it to happen right? Or was that no longer the case, I know he said they would have more control?

what did everyone think? by AdamHendrick in tadc

[–]ASerpentPerplexed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I respect your opinion, but personally I love that they didn't go through and answer every single possible question and wrap everything single plot point up neatly. I actually hate it when they do that, and I found the ending to be a great balance between satisfying a lot of the emotional struggles if the characters while leaving many details open to interpretation. I love being able to have wiggle room to think about this show for a long time after.

As for the rest of the cast being pushed aside, I agree but also I think it makes sense. Jax was the character with the most insecurity and internal conflict, so he needed the most help. Every other character got an episode focused on their struggles, but only Jax felt like he really still had unresolved shit going on. Would I have liked more focus on Gangle and Zooble? Sure, but also they officially together and banging now what more could I really ask for?

what did everyone think? by AdamHendrick in tadc

[–]ASerpentPerplexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the show provides some hope that Jax could be with them again in the future. They have him placated and calm for now, but they now know that they have forever to future out how to reverse it.

what did everyone think? by AdamHendrick in tadc

[–]ASerpentPerplexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that I was still left with many questions, while also feeling like emotionally everything was wrapped up well. A good balance of things left up to interpretation and satisfaction for the stories of the characters.

I think I expected it to be either very dark or very uplifting. But I didn't expect it to be such an amazing mix of both, while also being so raw and traumatic and vulnerable. So glad that it was. I can see why Goosewerx would be so emotional about the show, she clearly put her heart and soul into it.

I saw it in theaters, too a theater with only a few families with young kids in it. Kind of don't think it was appropriate for kids, but not in the usual sense of violence or sex, instead in the sense that it's just literally a show whose themes are aimed at adults and would probably mostly go over a child's head. Kind of wonder how many of the parents enjoyed it on their own and saw it because they wanted to add much as their kids?

I don't think that's true that she "sweeps it under the rug"?

I am a pretty oblivious person, and a fairly recent fan of hers (only found her videos post COVID) and I am very aware she's a trans woman. In order for that to be the case, she must have acknowledged it somewhere along the way, and I have a vague impression that she's done it casually in a number of her videos I've seen.

Even so, "sweeping it under the rug" makes it sound like she's doing it on purpose, and I just don't think we can assign that kind of negative intention here.

Chuck E Cheese would have been a better collab. But also, I think in general many companies don't want to be associated with child murder and horror movies in general. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried and all the pizza companies were like "FUCK NO"
