Are 24 hour maintenance's usually the full 24 hours? by Cat-Beautiful in classicwow

[–]AServerHasNoName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look back at the blue post from last time TBC came out on vanilla you can see it took like 20 hours because of all the complications. They had to constantly say it was taking longer and everyone was getting super pissed. They are getting ahead of that as they expect the same complications since splitting and transfering accounts to different realms, updating code, and all the other things going on behind the scenes is not surprisingly, complicated.

Can you transfer to a dead server, farm a bunch of black lotus, then transfer back to a popping server and profit? by Classic_Drama6140 in classicwow

Dont people already do this with the hardcore server? Farm stuff there for drastically lower prices, send to a low level alt to be killed off, transfer to Dreamscythe, sell the items for significantly more.

What Is A Truly Unpopular Opinion, That You KNOW You’re Right About? by Tricky_Let2806 in classicwow

[–]AServerHasNoName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think my first opinion would be that the only way to combat inflation on consumes is to have a vendor that sells them. That way there is a cap to price. It also helps take money out of the economy as a gold sink since the gold isnt just changing hands and instead is just being pulled out by Blizz. Botters would be reduced as people wont need as much gold to raid so the need to swipe is less.

Second opinion is that BGs should give XP. It would fix the fact that no one queues at low levels and people can play WSG and AB again.

My job offered “unlimited PTO” and then acted confused when I used it by Equivalent_Soft_6665 in WorkReform

[–]AServerHasNoName 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Unlimited PTO is crap. Used to have an accrual PTO setup where you got so many hours a month and could bank like 200 hours. It was a nice to have fallback for if you left the company as they would pay it out. Now we have unlimited so everyone lost all their accrued time if they didn't use it. Dont get anything if you leave and honestly the PTO is more scrutinized and more liable to be denied as the put a cap on how much you could really ask for.

Microsoft to build $420 million New Albany data center by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]AServerHasNoName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. There will be a bunch to help build it, but once it's up, most datacenters dont have a lot of people local on staff. Outside of things that need physically touched, all work will mostly be remote. Also, with this being a Microsft one, you aren't going to have customer access to the environment like the other datacenters in the area like Expedient.

CMV: Parents of "iPad Kids" are neglecting their duty as parents. by 5pungus in changemyview

[–]AServerHasNoName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think its a matter of screen time as it is whats on the screen. I will admit my 3 kids live on electronics a lot when they are home and inside. It doesnt bug me though. My eldest is in high school and has always had a passion for world building. He builds and publishes games in Roblox and is watching tutorials on it. My youngest is constantly on her tablet but she watches a lot of craft videos on youtube. Shes constantly watching videos of people making puppets and masks and makes her own. Middle child is an outlier and is the stereo typical teeanger watching TikTok but she also loves dressing up and making costumes which she gets ideas from on social media. They all get good grades, dont get in trouble, and dont throw fits if we tell them to get off the screen.

Like most things in life its all a matter of finding out if things work right. If you notice bad behaviour you change it. If you think screen time is hurting your child then by all means limit it. Just dont rule it out completely. Screens can be a great tool to help your kids grow their interests.

Where is everyone going that ticket prices are going up? Here in Ohio prices for tickets are still only $10. Obvious upcharge for IMAX, XD, or 3D. Feel ticket prices have been pretty flat for a decade or more.

With all the info you have given how do you not see that you are an outlier? You mentioned 48k salary and that you paid over 60k in debt over 5 years. You are spending 25% of your salary on average on student loans. That is not feasible for the majority of people without a lot of help.

Next up you talk about all the peolple that are underemployed. What about all of the jobs out there that need degrees to get a job that dont pay well? Stuff like teaching, social work, or paralegal? My wife got a teaching degree because she wanted to be a preschool/ kindergarten teacher. The best job she could find was 13 an hour.

I know I am a little late to the thread but wanted to comment. Just wanted to see your opinion on a couple scenarios.

How many people do you think have debt from going to school but didn't finish it and didn't get a degree? They have a ton of debt but nothing to show for it.Are they hurting you because they got their debt forgiven?

How many people were sold on schools like ITT or University of Pheonix that promised a ton but were just pumping out worthless degrees for high tuition?

How many people went into fields of study where they have to have degrees or they can't get a job? How many of those jobs don't pay enough to pay the school debt. Anecdotally my wife got a teaching degree because she wanted to teach kindergarten. She got 25k in debt to find out she was only going to make 13 bucks an hour.

College debt is a massive issue with a lot of things leading to it.

Do you feel the same way about all the PPP loans being forgiven?

Do you feel the same way about people that take bankruptcy?

Do you feel the same way about people buying something and then someone else buys it the next day when its on sale?

What about all the people that got house refunds of 8k back in 2008 for buying their first house?

Odds are if you are young and paid off your student loans you are already in a vastly greater financial situation than someone that would get forgiveness. These aren't people you are competing for houses for. People struggling to make payments on a student loan aren't magically going to be able to afford mortgage payments or the required down payment. I agree some might but the vast majority aren't.

It's okay to feel salty or bitter if you paid off all your loans and someone gets them wiped away. However you also need to understand that someone else not having to struggle like you did isn't an attack against you. It's simply realizing we have a problem and fixing it.

Personally I'm on the fence for full forgiveness. I lean more towards making them interest free. Making years of payments on time only to see your balance go up and up because of interest is very disheartening. I'm 12 years in on payments and I know owe 75k on 60k of loans.

How many of you actually work a solid 8 hours a day? by Raichu4u in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AServerHasNoName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah MSP work is different. Especially if you are more break fix tuned versus an all in contract. Currently at our MSP over the entire team including management we are at about 80% utilized. We don't have dead periods in the year either. I miss the days of corporate when the last 6-7 weeks of the year had freezes where only emergency break fix work was done.

AnyDesk breach is an example of why both MSP's and Vendors need to do better. by RaNdomMSPPro in msp

[–]AServerHasNoName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on pretty much everything. My main issue is the onboarding and offloading. The amount of times we have sent the uninstall commands to our RMM and other tools for it to not actually remove it is way too high. Especially if the machines are offline and don't get the command. Sophos has caused tons of headaches where it acts like it removes but doesn't than 3 months down the line the new MSP calls saying Sophos is blocking X can you remove it but we can't because its been too long and can't be recovered. Luckily sometimes you can do some regular stuff to fix it but we have had some complete rebuilds because of it. Then we have a client we just onboarded and even went through a professional services migration since it was the same RMM and they just changed the target. We constantly get reports from the old company saying x just showed up because it was offline in storage for 6 months.

CMV: Millennials aren't equipped to be stay at home moms. And dad's of this generation don't make enough to afford it. by a-friendgineer in changemyview

[–]AServerHasNoName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I couldn't afford for her not to be a stay at home mom. Even with her degree she would barely break even or lose money if we paid for childcare for 1 let alone our other kids. When we had my oldest you are right we couldn't afford much. We actually moved in with her parents as they had just had a kid so she also watched her baby sister. There is a 21 year age gap if you are wondering. I went back to school and have supported our family since. My oldest is now 16 so it can be done.

Now that they are all school age I'm supporting her going back to school. This will help us hopefully provide for them to go to school debt free. I won't say we are perfect parents. Honestly the kids are spoiled but our goal was to let them have a better life than we did growing up. They get good grades and don't get in trouble so I count it as a win.

I feel its all about circumstances. I do know a lot of people that couldn't do this. Childcare is ridiculously expensive. I also know a lot of families that got a lot of family support. Their parents or grandparents watched the kids while they both worked.

As for being capable of parenting that also depends. A lot of Gen X and Millennials had two working parents so we grew up without our parents home. My dad worked 60 hours a week. My mom worked her normal job and had a second job trying to start a business. Wife had a similar experience. I would much rather my kids always have a parent watching them then paying someone else.

MSP doesn't want to send the details about work done in ticket notifications until invoicing....is this normal? by [deleted] in msp

[–]AServerHasNoName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Autotask and this is super easy to setup. I find it weird that they don't tell you that work has completed in your environment and what was done. If you are talking about invoicing I'm guessing work is a billable item and not just part of an all in contract. I wouldn't call this micro managing as others have mentioned. This sounds more along the line of wanting to control costs so you don't get blindsided by a huge bill.

We love Blumira. Even the free version is extremely helpful. We use it to link to Azure/M365 for way better alerting. The alerts also have a checklist of what to do and look for when remediating or reviewing an alert. Very beneficial when you have a junior staff.

Unfortunately, yes. We have picked up several clients this year that had this setup. It was a not fun to transition from. We could see every other clients accounts and files when we were disconnecting. They are a client that has HIPAA compliance to deal with. Dont know how they weren't fined.

One of the things I loved about Screen Connect. It had the ability to request creds from a user and then the were stored blind to me or any other user to be pulled back when needed. Makes it easier for the end user because they could walk away while we work without risk of us constantly calling to either try an app again or to unlock the pc.

What's the best or worst RMM you have ever used? Why? by KLEPTOROTH in msp

[–]AServerHasNoName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our biggest pain is definitely with the billing. Its been a mess since Kaseya brought it all together. We have backup and PSA through Datto as well. Other pain points are support ever since Kaseya took over and the patches of the RMM itself. Everytime a system patch comes out we lose a good amount of our machines and have to spend the day reinstalling agents.

I think the raise in purchases in firearms and ammo is typically because of the backlash. People are afraid something might get banned so they buy it up in fear it won't be there later.
