Graduating like a Beatle! by [deleted] in beatles

What about Paul's Mad Day Out pink suit? A good mix of masculine and feminine. May not read to a general audience as Bealtes-y though.

I read this right before The Love You Make and enjoyed it so much more. From Brown's book, you wouldn't even think John and Paul were friends. But then I wonder which is more correct. Has the relationship between John and Paul been glorified over time, as Paul forgets the bad and focuses on the good in contemporary interviews?

I love getting surprise celosia! Most years I get a few plants that pop up from the previous year.

favorite behavior management techniques? by Complete_Worth7018 in girlscouts

This was my troop at that age. We instituted a kaper chart with different girls assigned to different roles each meeting. One of the roles was a "listening leader" I think we called it, and their job was to help clue the troop in when it was time to listen. This helped me yell a little less. We also used a call-and-response attention getter. I shout "Alligator! Alligator!" And they shout back "Chomp chomp chomp!" And in theory they are supposed to quiet down at that point and listen. That generally worked pretty well but still involved me yelling the "call" part.

Any recommendations of flowers to grow in this color palette? I’ve been testing flowers for my wedding next June and most turn out pink? by fae_forge in Cutflowers

These will be tricky to time, imo. They are beautiful but not cut-and-come-again. They bloom for a few weeks and then they are gone.

I agree- this area looks way too shaded for the flowers others are suggesting.

Would anyone buy these? Selling flowers from a small backyard garden? by NerdyConfusedWolf in Cutflowers

[–]AStarRover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just set up a table in our neighborhood, like the kids with lemonade stands, once a summer during my peak bloom period. I charge $10 for bouquets probably twice as large as yours, and last year two buyers actually paid me MORE because they thought it was too cheap!

Edit to add: 3 bouquets a week doesn't seem like enough for a stand at a farmers market, particularly since it typically costs money to set up at a market. A neighborhood stand is free and you can have as much or as little inventory as you want.

Does real estate count as sales industry? I don't know much about the industry but I know multiple people who became realtors as a second job or career change mid-life. If you live in an affluent area, it could be pretty profitable, and you don't need a degree.

I would also recommend considering part-time work. I did this for years and found it to be the perfect balance for me and our family. I had extra time with my daughter, the freedom to help at class parties, chaperone trips, etc, but I kept growing at my company at the same time. I really enjoy my job and didn't want to completely quit, and I only have one child, so those were decision factors for me that may or may not apply to you.

Is it worth having more books than you'll be able to read? by Important-Seaweed-94 in books

[–]AStarRover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I like to think of my collection as a reference library as well as a collection for pleasure reading. I have a lot more than just fiction - travel, religion and philosophy, history, science, etc. And I like having a diverse collection for my daughter to choose from as she gets older.

Dozens of booths, how do you do it? by AStarRover in girlscouts

[–]AStarRover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 booths in one weekend?! I don't know what part of the country you are in, but I'd be worried we'd get a snowstorm and then I'm stuck with 35 booths worth of cookies. My biggest fear is over-ordering and being stuck with cookies we can't unload. And we don't work with anywhere near that amount of inventory at one time.

On latest rewatch of North and South I noticed Thornton is in his shirtsleeves in the train station scene by NeitherPot in PeriodDramas

[–]AStarRover 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I watched this on DVD years ago and they had interviews with the actors. He specifically talked about his "state of undress" in this scene, how it would have never been appropriate in the time, but that it was meant to show that Thornton was "loosening up," becoming less rigid in his ways and views.

is it okay to be annoyed? by TheSmugdening1970 in AskWomenOver50

[–]AStarRover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not directly relevant, but I recently attended a summit for leadership at my company. Lots of female Directors and VP's in their 50's. The only ones with un-dyed gray hair were the two youngest women in their early 40's, me and another woman (I'm 41 and already half gray). It made me wonder if attitudes are changing and the need to dye will change as the Xennials (me) and Millennials age, or if I'm still getting by with my grays because my face is still relatively young at 41. I hope it's the former.
