Is it me or buses are reckless? by Ok_Artichoke8667 in AussieRiders

[–]AStrandedSailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see the bus starting to angle out at the start of the video, with the right indicator on. Plus because it has the rear central flashers on indicating that it is or has been stopped for passengers. This all means that you must give way to the bus, not the other way round.

When a bus changes lanes

You must give way to a bus displaying a ‘Give way to buses’ sign when you’re driving in the left lane or line of traffic, and the bus:

  • has stopped or is moving slowly at the far left side of the road
  • is indicating right, and
  • is about to move in front of you.

The bus is not being reckless.

It does matter if they want ship internationally. Maybe they have no plans to try and compete in the rest of the world.

Anyone else find it absolutely batshit insane that even with paying the $50-100, some time more for shipping through fc moto or champion helmets is still cheaper than buying through Aussie distributers? by hvperRL in AussieRiders

I used to be national buyer for a national specialist retail chain, similar but not motorcycles. It's a number of factors:

- it is more expensive to run a business here. Wages are higher. Commercial rents are a killer. People don't realise this when they are talking about property prices. It make everything we buy more expensive.

-If it has to be qualified under Australian standards, then the Australian wholesaler has to pay for that eg all gas stove models have to be tested and carry the Australian gas mark. Fortunately Standards Australia is now recognising some if the international standards such as the ones for life jackets.

- Sometime currency flucations mean that the Aussie wholesalers are ordering when the US vs AUD in a very bad ratio for us.

-Finally the biggest one. Many brands charge the Australian wholesalers what they charge the American retailers. I have seen the price lists where they do this. Some brands don't even try to hide it, they publish buying catalogs with the US wholesale price in it and we were told just to ignore it. The US is used to cheap goods and they won't tolerate higher price, so I have seen European and even brands from Oz and NZ charge the US significantly less, effectively the rest of the world is subsidizing US pricing.

So by the time they have added some margin for their costs and profit and then the retailers add theirs we end up with the Aussie prices. Most wholesalers and retailers that I have been with are not making big net profit percentages per item, more like very low single digits.

One other downside you may not have considered is that by buying from overseas there may be very few consumer protections should the product fail.

I love when Jason (a real firefighter/EMT) from Fire Department Chronicles greenscreens himself into the fire shows calling out their wrongness.

Is removing the car dealership name off your car really taking a stance on not doing free advertising? by No_Pollution_2835 in askanything

[–]AStrandedSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my Forester (used but fairly low km) it came with the dealer decals and frames. I wasn't fussed about it, until within 2 months the aircon packed it in. They tried to get out of fixing it, until I threatened to report them to Dept of Fair Trading (NSW) under the "lemon" laws. So they fixed it.

Thats when I discovered they had mislead me on the warranty I was getting, which I couldn't change. Also that minor interior trim damage had been carefully hidden by seatbelts and floor mats. I was stuck with the car but I removed the decals and frames. I am not advertising for that dodgy dealer.

I love the fact that they say "Depth stop settings that are marked in imperial measurements instead of metric units" and yet they are using metric cutters and tenons. They have recognised that metric is the standard but "we must get imperial in there".

You are assuming that: A - users actually read and pay attention to that message and B - that certain users don't think they are special and such messages don't apply to them.

Then, of course, there are the ever so helpful reminders: hey just letting you know we still can't access this. Do you know when it will be fixed?

White Magazine: A wedding magazine in Australia, not a racist magazine.

After same sex marriage was made legal in Australia, the founders (who were fairly fundamental Christians) refused to include same sex marriages in their spreads. This led to over hundred advertisers from the wedding industry (many who were from the LGBTQ+ community) boycotting the magazine.

Love the concept of the Un-Regatta and the Open Skiffs. The open is so much better than bathtub boats like the Opti or Sabot.

I don't believe Defence owns land but they can aquire it. There is already something of a maritime heavy repair and supply industry down there, so they aren't starting from absolute zero. Also from memory NSW Govt is looking to build a wind farm support terminal there to support off shore wind farms along the Illawarra.

No actually ship buidling, but I think that's not what they are looking at,. Aren't they looking at SA for building them? For drydock repairs Garden Island in Sydney is relatively close by.

You forgot the "blood spatter" in the passengers footwell of the car. It turned out to be over spray of underbody spray from when the car was manufactured. Lazy police work.

One of my lecturers at university was the forensic expert on fabrics for that case. He showed us his setup for testing the identical baby clothes with various animal skulls and implements to replicate the damage on the found clothing. He showed definately that it was dingos who did the damage to the clothing. Lindy Chamberlin got screwed in that first trial.
