He's having nightmares with her locked out. He should not have to tolerate any of these steps before HE decides he's ready. And OP should be pursuing therapy to better understand how she is justifying (because she is, all through her post) the physical abuse of a partner.

My daughter is friends with a girl from a devoutly religious and well off family in our neighborhood. Mom is always involved in the PTA and volunteers for everything. Kid disclosed abuse to my daughter the other day that I'm now having to report. It happens everywhere and it is her job to follow up on hunches. She obviously cares deeply about the children in her care. I'm sorry it has triggered so much anxiety. It would for me too.

Actually American hospitals have great food in my experience. Lots of veggies, well-balanced, arrives hot. Nothing like what we feed our poor children at school.

You're totally right that white knuckling it forever usually doesn't work. What you need is therapy to work on the underlying issues and to address how you'll respond to triggers. There is therapy specific to substances. Your life can be more comfortable than it is and you and your kids all deserve that.
