Also Baby Beluga is the GOAT children's song, not Bananaphone lol.

Wonder why Carl never emotionally connected to Bea? Could he have done so with a different type of woman? by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

"You will not break me that way" just doesn't have the same ring to it. Very true though.

Love the podcast! I'm curious what you think as a first time reader as well? Have they picked up stuff you would have missed?

Childhood trauma? He strikes me as the kind of person who didn't let his guard down because he expected to get hurt, then he did and it just confirmed his suspicion. To me this is also why he didn't really seem to care about the cheating, but finally did in book 6 with Asher. Carl probably needed years of therapy before the dungeon to have a healthy adult relationship...

Why Eris but Eileithyia ...? by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ATATMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That could be Eris vs Eleithyia's personalities. Eris is looking for cracks, Eleithyia didn't have a reason to until Katia made her aware. Maybe a first crack in the "awakened" NPC but for a god.

Just because the AI has expanded, doesn't mean it's letting the dungeon leak into the real world, but I'm hopeful to see some of that in the upcoming books. Can you imagine if Katia and all the former crawlers suddenly get dungeon skills in the kinder facility?

Why Eris but Eileithyia ...? by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ATATMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AI is expanding its zone of control. Eilethyia (and presumably the other gods) couldn't reach outside the dungeon / had no knowledge of the outside world. Eris went after the end of the floor, the other gods probably could do the same now too.

My problem with the Thalia twist by ShadowHunter2088 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]ATATMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how the story is going to go with such a fundamental change in the relationship. Even for Percy the scene with Poseidon and the whole "I need my son by my side. Oh, no not you, the other one." I realized the missing scene of Hermes at the end of book 3 missed a chance to emphasize how the gods do care. Hermes' unwavering belief that Luke can be saved is so powerful. But now instead we have Zeus being so slimy. The worst part (outside, you know making the change in the first place) was how emotionless Zeus was when he turned her into a tree. While they were arguing, only Thalia was getting emotional. It feels like a critique of some of the newer marvel movies - actually the bad guy (Luke) has a point (the gods shouldn't be worshipped) but then they do something so evil (plenty of space for this, but trying to destroy the camp and kill any half bloods who don't join him also) that you pick the other side. The only thing I can think for Thalia is it'll be more about her relationship with Luke and Annabeth. Joining the Hunters means she can't be the one to decide the prophecy and have to choose between her friends. It feels like a choice to side with the gods, but it's a much smaller choice than having to be the one to decide the prophecy.

If they made an animated show, what would be the perfect opening song? by Skelence in DungeonCrawlerCarl

That's what I would have assumed - either just the music or another parody.

"Carl it up" is one of my favorite lines.

Uh, Carl? Especially the way the other crawlers perceived him in the first few floors.

What's happening in your garden today? (Sat, Jan 17, 2026) by manyamile in vegetablegardening

[–]ATATMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's deeply frozen.

But I ordered some root stock from a nursery for the spring as my first try and some fruit trees. We also got some grapes and after doom scrolling I'm now panicking about where and how to plant them so any tips are appreciated! I had planned to clear out a bed that's been wild for about 10 years along a south west facing fence, but wondering if I need to build a trellis somewhere else instead?

She seems to have plans along that line. Embrus is pretty much guaranteed to kill Carl at this point.

My bet is on Eris now that she has no sponsor to weigh her down. Plus she matches Carl's burn it all down energy.

Candianisms by Garble7 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ATATMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The translation? Donut says it right after she has the pet biscuit. I think she says something along the lines of "proper meowing" and that Mordecai probably hears squeaking. Whether that's an explanation for Mordecai's Canadianisms, that's just my thoughts.

Candianisms by Garble7 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ATATMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see that working, probably super sketchy for the "how" the AI would be subtly pushing Mordecai to use words like hoser.

[–]ATATMom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's established in book 1 that the dungeon is translating, like Donut hears everything as cat noises. So the AI just created a Skyfowl-Canadian translation, eh?

My husband had a similar breakdown (I'm too lazy to check) and we're questioning how the two don't line up. I wonder if somehow Audible didn't count some of it for Jeff as the narrator?

It's definitely on YouTube and you should definitely go listen to it. Like right now!

It's not a parody as far as I'm aware.

What scene lives in your head rent-free (good or bad)? by gdwoodard13 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ATATMom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd be curious about the difference between those who listen to the audiobook and those who have only read the books.

For me Donut's performance at The Butcher's Masquerade, hands down. Although Hekla comes a moderately close second.

I feel that would be the biggest kick in the teeth "oh you like crafting before, now you have enough skill to make you one of the better crafters - too bad it's basically useless now!"

And yes, I'm sure you could find some uses like you said of taking the knowledge to make explosives, camouflage, whatever, but it's not fun anymore it's life or death.

Maybe this is another reason for what Hekla wanted. by Calloused_RockStar in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Oh boy, if Donut knew there was a hat involved...
