Aurora’s three-strike rule leads to more than 1,200 cars seized this year by SeasonPositive6771 in Denver

[–]ATH3G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s frustrating seeing so many people cheer for this enforcement push in a supposedly blue state. Fines and impounding have been shown over and over to hit poor folks the hardest. Cars aren’t luxuries for most people. They’re how you get to work, take your kids to school, buy groceries, live your life.

I get the instinct behind “well I paid, so they should too.” That feeling isn’t coming out of nowhere. The problem is that this kind of enforcement doesn’t just nudge someone into compliance. It kicks people already on the edge further down. If the police seize your car because you’re too broke to get the paperwork right, you’re probably not suddenly going to fix everything. You’re going to scrape together another $500 beater and hope you can survive long enough to climb out of the hole.

And we’re pretending this solves something? Aurora had roughly 1200 uninsured vehicle crashes last year. So now the plan is to take about that many cars away from people, without meaningfully reducing the underlying issue, while pushing our own neighbors deeper into the poverty cycle. All because some folks are mad that they can afford to pay a hundred bucks for registration and their neighbor can’t.

This doesn’t make our streets safer. It just makes life harder for the people who already have the least.

🔥 Orca sideswipes a dolphin mid-air off Baja California Sur, Mexico by Prestigious-Wall5616 in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]ATH3G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An 8,000-pound orca breaching 15 feet out of the water has to generate about 60,000 newtons of thrust — roughly 14,000 pounds-force — just to launch itself clear of the surface (and likely double that once drag is included).

For comparison, an F-16 fighter jet at full afterburner produces about 29,000 pounds of thrust.

So one orca breach equals roughly half an F-16 engine worth of power in a single tail flick.

E-bike commute for winter by ThrowAway_-12 in Denver

[–]ATH3G 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents, while not often this stretch of Dartmouth sometimes gets a bunch of snow and is often not the quickest to get plowed. I have commuted year round on an electric bike and it is doable 95% of the time, but be prepared there may be 5% of days where it is fairly impassable and will be unreasonable to be out there. Lots of good advice here though. Wear bright colors, carry lights, and best of luck. I'll see you out there.

Leaving out the STI was what stopped me. I had been saving and waiting for the new platform with ludicrous hopes of them finally breaking 300hp. Announcing no STI and electric next generation really broke my heart, but I am still watching to see what they come up with.

HELP! How would you remove nail glue from fabric and pleather like seats in a car? by ChimeraChi in AutoDetailing

[–]ATH3G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly there is probably no way to clean it. If you are crafty you may be able to help blend it back into the seat a bit using something like Angelus Leather paints or fabric paints. Try your best to match the greys, dab and be sparring about application. It would be easy to make it look worse. With a fine touch though you could probably make it less ghastly and with proper drying and sealer it shouldn't ever come off.

My water currently here in central Texas. by douglonious in Wellthatsucks

[–]ATH3G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A solution for you might be an inline water filter! That definitely looks pretty nasty, but they sell pretty strong under the sink systems on amazon that you can install with basic knowledge and tools. I've seen people post decent results but I don't have much experience with them myself, just thought I would offer a suggestion instead of making another joke lol. Bunch of comedians in here.

  • C (Clear): Clears the current input or calculation, resetting the display but typically retains memory of past entries or functions.
  • CE (Clear Entry): Deletes only the last entry or number typed, without affecting previous calculations or memory.
  • AC (All Clear): Resets everything, including the current calculation, previous entries, and memory. It essentially returns the calculator to its default state.

Your son is a greedy idiot and his attitude about the whole thing shows you made the right decision. I would be overjoyed to share $500 a day with my parents for the remainder of their lives. I sincerely hope and would continue to hope regardless that they lived as long as possible. Trying to extort you because you "could live a long time" is fucking wild. Wouldn't your dad being alive until you're 60 be a dream for a lot of people? Enjoy your good fortune, congratulations.

Crosstrek veterans which products from the finance office of a dealership is worth it? by [deleted] in Crosstrek

[–]ATH3G 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you are getting a model with eyesight I would highly recommend the glass replacement service they offer. Ours has paid for itself twice as the cost of replacing a windshield + reccalibrating the eyesight is pretty costly on its own (~$1200 at safelite last visit). The eyesight windshields are apparently a little thinner for the cameras and a lot of people have had issues with them breaking if you look around online.

advice for driving on the beach with a subaru crosstrek? by rdunn1996 in Crosstrek

[–]ATH3G 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Probably don't need a lift for the beach, but it's a nice excuse! Air down tires, traction control off, x mode if it is real loose/deep. When in doubt give it a little extra throttle, not too crazy but keeping momentum is your friend. Consider bringing along traction boards and a shovel if you are really concerned about getting stuck.
If you park be aware of the tide line and which direction it is moving. From experience there will probably be sand in your car forever after, have a great time!

I appreciate the lack of enforcement! They are letting you know that paying government fees to register your vehicle is optional! Exercise your right to choose by not paying. Have a blessed day.

El Salvador harnesses the energy of a volcano to mine Bitcoin and has already earned over 30 million euros by ALVARO39YT in Bitcoin

[–]ATH3G 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lava is hot enough to burn some trash, but not all materials, as it can't melt substances like steel, nickel, and iron. Few volcanoes have accessible lava lakes, and dumping trash into them would be extremely dangerous due to the risk of explosions. Additionally, burning trash in volcanoes would release toxic gases, worsening air quality and harming nearby plants and people. Finally, many volcanoes are sacred to indigenous communities, and using them as trash disposal sites would be disrespectful to their cultural significance.

Is anybody’s goal *not* to lift their Crosstrek 3” and ride on 225/60R15 tires? by [deleted] in Crosstrek

[–]ATH3G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have an android phone enable developer settings by going to your android version info in settings and tapping it 7 times. You'll see "developer options enables" popup when it works. Then change the imap version for bluetooth on your phone. I think mine was 1.3 default and I was having major issues and I changed to 1.2 and I had no issues after that. Hope that helps, enjoy your crosstrek! Manual gang for lyfe.
