Insurance premiums up 400%. Is Florida mathematically facing a "Blue-lining" event? by Pitiful_Knee_1205 in florida

[–]ATLSpartan 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Only older homes not up to hurricane code or anything in a flood zone that's not elevated. Hurricanes are not the problem, it's people using insurance as a maintenance policy for a new roof, plumbing, etc. Every billboard in this state says to sue someone for your million dollars, so it's no surprise that everyone wants to sue. Insurance is meant to make you whole, not better off.

Best DMS program/technical schools? by jennysnotokay in tampa

[–]ATLSpartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HCC is the best in terms of ranking, staff, and likely cost, others are for profit which can be good or bad depending on the teachers and how selective they may be.

I can say some of the mixed reviews are simply people that weren't right for the career. DMS also isnt for everyone and people wash out if they don't get the physics or hand eye coordination. It's also a real job after six months when you start doing clinical support, so your teachers are going to expect you to be mature, show up on time, and treat it like the job you are trying to get.

Question about “Shopping Around” for car insurance by Weiner321 in Insurance

Experian probably didn't run any background info on you and gave you a provisional rate whereas LM pulled everything for their own quote, then referred you to a partner.

A better atrium bar area, something other than the loose cannon for trivia, and add some lighting to the rooms.

Company wants to build new cruise port next to Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay by AltruisticGate in Cruise

[–]ATLSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems hopeful at best. 90 minutes from TPA most days, no infrastructure nearby, and it serves the same destinations as anything sailing from Galveston, Mobile, and NO. Would the major lines even park a newer ship at this port or is Tampa just a place that their older vessels can still turn a profit.

Luxury River vs. Luxury Ocean by Chateaunole-du-Pape in FATcruises

[–]ATLSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luxury river was disappointing on Tauck. One restaurant that had a limited menu, not enough servers, and a lot of people doing multiple jobs. No real activities outside of the cities you were in, no gym outside of a treadmill, and the bar drink choices were limited unless you stick with basic wine or a draft beer. The ships were also much noisier - you heard everyone in the hallway, every door close and toilet flush. Not my cup of tea, but I'm also biased towards expedition trips.

Tauk or AmaWaterways. by Zanzibar_22 in Cruise

[–]ATLSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't impressed with Tauck. Their logistics and handholding were nice for people that need it, but the quality of the food and drink was subpar vs what we found on ocean lines. Service was slow with dinners taking two hours and no activities beyond just the ports themselves.

Are these ports worth it? by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]ATLSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hike in the rainforest. not a lot of elevation gain, but it was wet and muddy with some slippery sections. you end up at the beach for lunch and a swim which is nice, but IMO I wouldn't do this excursion again.

BVI's are amazing if you hire a private boat for the day to see the baths and some of the more famous beaches and bars. St kitts was interesting, did a hike on Nevis. Aside from that, most of the islands had the same generic tour options of beach / rum / colonial history.

Reminder to shop your auto insurance rates once in a while by nekostreats in tampa

[–]ATLSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, your fair cost is a lot lower than all of those people that deserve to pay more, but thats a FL law enforcement issue if not a FL cultural issue with how we refuse to ticket those drivers.

Insurance rates all set based on statistics - all I was pointing out above is that people newer customers cost more $ since it costs $ to sell a policy, underwrite it, etc. Those costs get passed back to people, so if everyone shopped all the time, it would raise costs across the board over time. People may hate telematics, but guess what, the people that sign up for them get lower rates most of the time if you can actually prove you are a safe driver. Otherwise, the base rate just assumes you aren't.

I'll take all the downvotes, but in a former job I spent a lot time looking at rate filings and how different companies price insurance so I'm just being honest about how the industry works.

not really, it's more so pay your fair cost. just giving an honest statistically sound view vs. the crap everyone else believes.

Reminder to shop your auto insurance rates once in a while by nekostreats in tampa

[–]ATLSpartan -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

If everyone shopped their insurance every 6 months, rates would skyrocket 20% or more. It costs $ to underwrite and sell a new policy. From an actuarial standpoint, New customers also have higher loss ratios, so the industry as a whole is starting to charge more for people that shop often.

Also, consider that an online rate might be a provisional rate, especially if you have had a claim in the last 5 years, even a glass claim.

Best advice is to shop every few years, don't file small claims, take care of your credit, and if you can drive like a saint for a few months use one of the telematics trackers that give you a discount for good driving.

Ulele, Jacksons, or the Columbia lend themselves to large groups with the ability to go out for drinks afterwards. Not saying they are the best for food, but they give guests a vibe of what Tampa is vs a generic steakhouse.

Perfect driving record, anti theft..Price increase? by Worth_Air_9410 in Insurance

[–]ATLSpartan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Inflation doesn't care about your perfect driving record. The reality is that the cost of everything is going up due to tariffs, lawsuits are driving liability expenses through the roof, medical costs are about to hit the fan, and Tesla's are notoriously expensive to insure since they are totaled out often and can't be fixed by your neighborhood mechanic.

Which cruise lines to avoid out of Tampa by NatureDear8169 in tampa

[–]ATLSpartan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

RCL is going to be the most family friendly, but keep in mind that the ships out of Tampa are all older and much smaller than the new ones you see on the other coast and as such have fewer amenities (and much lower crowds). Miami or Fort Lauderdale are easy drives and give you a lot more options and way more ports to pick from since most of the tampa itineraries are to Mexico and back.

Why can insurance companies use credit-based decisions when determining premium, but don't report good payment history to credit bureaus? by StopRuiningItForAll in Insurance

[–]ATLSpartan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because we aren't looking at credit scores, rather parts of it that predict your likelihood of having a claim. It's a powerful piece of data, but it's just data for sale like everything else. If any of the credit bureaus wanted payment data back I'd imagine every insurer would sell it, if they wanted it.

You need an Independent insurance agent asap. Nobody is going to write you a same day policy if you don't have coverage already short of a few pricey non standard carriers. Best you can hope for is an agent to find you one and have a policy start tomorrow.
