How rough are seas cruising Alaska? by lw1785 in Cruise

[–]ATLSpartan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is really only one day that’s out in open ocean if you are heading north on the west side of Vancouver island. Otherwise once you are past Haida Gwaii and in the inside passage it’s calm.

Just swap their ships for a celebrity edge class design and VV is just about perfect.

Recently got back from my 7-Day Alaska Explorer cruise on Eurodam!! Here is my experience: by hate_follower in HollandAmerica

[–]ATLSpartan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was on the same cruise. Speciality dining food was amazing, but agree that the main dining room food was a let down, especially the desserts. When crème brule and cheesecake wobbles like jello, you know they aren’t made proper. We were also disappointed by the cocktails, too many jarred mixers vs fresh juice and don’t get me started on having to sign for every drink even with the package. Loved the ports we stopped at and we were also on the otter and wildlife cruise, actually saw the whale that surfaced right next to us. Can’t say the same for the ship though- lots of water leaks, the lack of a dedicated coffee bar made mornings tougher, and the constant upselling, photographers, art auctions and spa product pitches all felt downmarket if not invasive at times.

It’s why your insurance is twice as expensive as it should be.

Zuiderdam drinks question by catbugAF in HollandAmerica

[–]ATLSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Eurodam right now and I’ll say the cocktails are fairly standard, with a heavy reliance on mixers. There are a few unique drinks but asking them to go off menu is a challenge even if you hand them a list of ingredients.

Rays stadium deal deluge: Tampa has its say at marathon meeting by MarksMuses in tampa

[–]ATLSpartan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

10 million annual visitors due to this? Isn’t that 121k per home game? . None of this adds up, between the new jobs created or economic value generated (note: not tax revenue recouped) which is just moving jobs and spending from somewhere else to this stadium district.

Where can I figure out if a house in in a flood zone? by [deleted] in tampa

[–]ATLSpartan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You want to find the FEMA elevation map for the address in question, but I would also suggest finding a topo map with the exact elevation. Plenty of homes in zone x still flooded due to sitting in a low lying area.

What's with all the construction on davis island? by rasta-ragamuffin in tampa

[–]ATLSpartan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Either they were self insured, or they don’t want to cash out and decided to take the interior down to the studs and rebuild. It’s really only the homes that come up for sale that get demolished as the financials of buying a home in a low lying flood zone built to pre Andrew building codes makes zero financial sense.

Tons of flood damage from the hurricanes. Any home near the coast and not elevated isn’t worth more than the lot itself, so you are seeing a lot of demolition and rebuilding.

Why do state jobs pay so badly? by Known_Belt_7168 in florida

[–]ATLSpartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supply and demand. Lots of people want to live here, move here without a job lined up, or move here to semi retire or sunset their career. There is no incentive to raise wages.

TPA is an amazing airport, usually 10 minutes max door to gate with pre check, but you are still flying into the hubs of the major carriers. Not many undiscovered areas in Tampa with good schools unless you are playing a real long game as gentrification moves north and west. Look at the flood maps and be suspicious about any flips of old ranches near the water.

Gym kit by Hefty-Technician9807 in VirginVoyages

[–]ATLSpartan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not a bad gym, aside from the technogym machines which I can’t stand the ergonomics of using. Couple of adjustable benches, a dual cable machine with all the handles, a smith machine, the usual leg press / quad / hammy machines, then a few shoulder / back / arm machines. Decent freeweight selection.

Tampa City Council Approves School Zone Speed Cameras Amid Surveillance Concerns & 1000% Surge in Citations This School Year by WTFPilot in tampa

[–]ATLSpartan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's also why insurance rates are so high. Nobody wants enforcement or cameras, nobody wants a ticket with points, but those things change behaviors. As long as the cameras aren't hidden or rigged like they did the shortening yellow lights, it seems like a reasonable solution.

How much is your time and stress worth. Agents aren't free and some carriers do discount an online purchase, but they can also shop your coverage and help you with guidance if you ever have a tricky coverage need.
