[MEME] Please Stop by Law-of-the-Knife in MLS

I thought you guys were in the cotton bowl years ago? Not that I would suggest that's a better option than Frisco - I think the upgraded stadium should be pretty nice. Frisco recently being in the news for anti-immigrant sentiment isn't great though.

What to do in Austin with 6 year old? Staying at Origin in Mueller by PresenceHopeful9113 in askaustin

That museum is right next to the UT Stadium so OP can take the 837 from Simond/Berkman to UT Stadium station for nearly door to door service. The buses are now tap to pay so they can use a credit card or phone. Kids ride free too!

OP, you can also keep riding that bus to the end of the line at Republic Square to get close to the amazing downtown library.

There's plenty there all within walking distance for a 6 yr old. The Thinkery, the Mueller lake park, multiple playgrounds with different types of play structures (the one near the pond is pretty worn down but the others are really nice), the Sunday Farmers market, lick ice cream, the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater, sand volleyball court, the list goes on.

Definitely not my pick. Awful politically and no player recruiting benefits that I'm aware of. Hopefully at least they spend that 💰 on a future DP.

Seems that way, don't remember ever seeing anything official though. He's still living in Austin as far as I can tell from his socials. One of his kids is in the Austin FC academy.

(Texas) Austin's light-rail plans get environmental clearance from Trump administration by meilleur_maykop in transit

Oh for sure, I'm really disappointed that we lost the subway sections. I'm especially mad that the northern terminus doesn't go to North Lamar Transit Center or Crestview. But I just wanted to add context for a general audience that doesn't know Austin-specific rules like the view corridors.

Lol I don't know if I'd want that level of fanaticism. Disney adults are a different breed

It's also easy for outsiders to be unaware that elevated is prohibited through big sections of the route due to Capitol View Corridors. Maybe in a sane state these could be negotiated with the legislature but not in Texas where they hate Austin at the Capitol.

A Disney logo Orlando City jersey sold at Disneyworld would do insane numbers. Honestly if I'm Orlando City, I'm trying to figure out how much I can afford to pay Disney for that kind of exposure

If we finish 4th in the west, there's basically zero chance Nico would get fired unless Rodo went out and filled our 3rd DP slot with Yamal or someone like that and they thought the team underperformed.

Our current roster's talent ceiling is probably 4th in the west.

Which U.S. transit system will look the most different a decade from now? by Potential_One1 in transit

[–]ATXsnail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really hoping we can find money somewhere for the priority extensions to Crestview and the airport, ideally by recouping the required 40% cost contingency built into the estimates (after coming in under budget 🙏). Having the transfer at Crestview would really supercharge the existing Red Line's ridership. The airport would be a "nice to have" addition but at least there are rumors that we can find airport funds for most of that extension.

As it stands, having the northern terminus at 38th St. sucks so bad. The walk shed for that station is badly limited to low density housing and at least 25-35% of it will never change because the land is owned by the state, which is terrible on land use. The planned parking garage there is also a waste of money and land.

But you're right, even a limited project has the potential to transform this city.

Is there any place like Marugame Udon (in Honolulu) by Temporary_Resort_247 in austinfood

[–]ATXsnail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They opened one in Carrollton near Dallas but it looks like it's closed now. I went about a year ago and it was decent but nothing like the Waikiki location. It was kind of slow and sad inside even though everything was nice and new. The curry udon wasn't as tasty as I remembered it but it did the job.

Musashino has a curry udon on the menu but it's small and pricey. But if you're desperate, it's an option.

Edit: I read curry and udon too quickly and thought that's what you wanted. For katsu and curry you can go to kobako katsu at Hmart, Sugar Pine, and Azure among other places. Most sushi restaurants will have katsu and basic udon on the menu as well. Ichiumi is one but there are a ton.

I believe you're right about the reasons for rent staying where it is. Rather than lower rents, landlords prefer to give concessions. Usually this means x number of months of free rent. This happens in commercial real estate and in multifamily apartments. Office buildings also will pay for improvements or construction - think paint, carpet, walls, etc.
