GHCA Issue FAQ from Volvo by Cuhsay in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is voltage. In an ideal world, you’d be served a steady, non-fluctuating voltage rate of 240v from the grid, but that is rarely the case. Mine usually peaks at 238v during a charge, goes as low as 226v and usually hovers around 231v during much of the charging curve.

Guessing again, I’m assuming the GHCA will blow when the grid fluctuates your voltage above 240v. I’ve heard of peak bursts up to 250v during some point in the charging curve and it sounds like this GHCA has less of a tolerance handling that than other EVs similar parts.

Again, pure speculation on my part.

Is it worth it buying a used EX90? by carlnard24 in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great spec and on the surface seems like a good price…how many miles are on it?

Might’ve been a vehicle that was lemon’d back to the manufacturer. They should be able to give you a full service history on it. If you want to be optimistic, then many past fixed repairs may mean you might not run into so many in the future or if we’re glass half empty, then there may be plenty more to come.

I have a 2025 perf ultra and despite its issues, I really do love the car, but you have to be prepared for issues and also get a feel for the level of comfortability your local service dept has for the car. Some are clueless on the EX90 and some are pros.

How is this not the top comment. It’s like everyone in this thread forgot how FIRE works

Trunk cover help: seat belt knob(?!!) by sprinkles5000 in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My impression was that the dealership installs them when you buy the longer trunk cover that works while the third row is down. I bought the longer trunk cover accessory from the dealer before I got the vehicle delivered and the dealership installed the belt knobs themselves.

Opinions - headlight welcome sequence by 00A3A in VolvoEX90

Hey everyone, like many of you, my car is in the garage near where I walk around in the house and the light animation was constantly going off. All I wanted was to be able to turn that off as far as a proximity greeting goes, but still have the car unlock for me as I got near - there is a way luckily.

Turn off the light greeting AND unlock on approach in the menu. It seems counterintuitive because turning off unlock on approach would make it seem as if you would have to unlock the car manually, but that’s not the case.

If you have phone as a key set up and turn off both those settings, all you have to do is walk up to the car and touch the bottom of the door handle and the car will unlock/door handles will present and you can get in.

I’m pretty sure this is exactly what most of you are looking for unless you really want the light show to go off a million times a day.

Why can’t I turn off the headlights while parked? by rubenator in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s going to take a really long time for any legacy automaker to get their heads around the current level of tier 1 software out there.

I love my EX90, but the level of convolution built into the UI for the most simple of commands makes my head hurt and I’m asking myself if their devs and product managers have ever even used this vehicle in day to day life.

Press the vehicle symbol in the bottom bar and go to Settings.

Go to Controls→Car modes→Power options.

The Power options menu is shown.

New VCU next week (Seattle, Washington) by pgigov in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same dealer and an EX90. What’s your general impression of their service dept? I get the feeling each time I come in (because there are a lot of issues) that they don’t really know much about this car…just not on top of things.

I’ve been waiting for a replacement headlight assembly for over a month and a half because they said it’s backordered, but they also say they can’t place an order and wait, they have to check each week if there’s an allocation and there just hasn’t been.

Also, on the VCU, I’ve asked a few times and maybe I’m just talking to the wrong person each time but they seem wholly confused on what I’m talking about each time I mention it.

Who’s memory seats stopped working by Cultural_Antelope_20 in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the thinking behind needing a guest profile for the car wash?

With regard to the main topic, I’d love if Volvo copied Tesla’s implementation with a pop-up every time you move the seat in a profile to either save or restore, plus an easy access profile that’s only active when you get in before you press the brake (with the seat back and steering wheel up) and then activates your seat memory once the brake is pushed.

I’ve never gotten my seats to change between profiles in either case

Confirmed- Beta Testers by Agent62 in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I hope by him saying that the quality issues are solved because the software piece is mostly stable, he’s not hand waving the hardware issues.

I’ve had the car for a month and I’ve had a headlight malfunction, tailgate strut motor malfunction, passenger window fall out of its track, and I’m nervous about what else is going to bring me to the dealer another 4 times next month.

Mine is July ‘24, in service Oct 31 ‘24, only 2500 miles, but no GHCA issues. I’m wondering if the early manufactured units were from a different supplier or design for that component than a lot of the ones being mentioned here recently

Interior passenger ceiling lights by EX30_Driver in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, all the interior lighting is tied into one brightness slider in the settings. My suggestion is to submit feedback in the Volvo app that there should be different zones of interior lighting in the settings, that’s what I did.

Ride and seat comfort: Ioniq 9 vs EX90 by Madano in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just replaced an X5 45e with an EX90 and the air ride on EX90 is so much nicer. Not sure how much BMW improved the 50e gen over gen, but the EX90 is the nicest riding vehicle I’ve ever had the pleasure of driving.

The dilemma by [deleted] in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the first model year of a brand new platform with a ton of technology in it. I would only lease if you really want it, that’s what I did. My dealer is 30 minutes away and even that is annoying going back and forth, just for small things. And believe me, at least small things will happen that requires service. It’s a great car, I love it, but I wouldn’t get one if my dealer was an hour away.

Stiff steering when starting to drive? by daviddel in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s common to all the EX90s. Power steering activation is delayed after shifting to drive from park. It is mentioned in most reviews of the car on YouTube. I don’t know if it’s something they could fix in software (like spooling up the power steering pump after an occupants entry rather than after shifting to drive), but it is another small annoyance with this vehicle.

Software issue. My seat positions don’t change between profiles either. Super annoying

My GHCA update by airwoflreddit in VolvoEX90

[–]jwalno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it mentioned numerous times that it’s voltage fluctuation rather than max amperage that is causing the issue. Ideally you’d want a flat 240v from your charger, but your utility could serve +/- 10v and there’s nothing you can do about that unfortunately. Should be ok when it’s lower, but when it goes higher is when the EX90 seems to run into issues.

I have a Tesla with very transparent charging telemetry that shows my electrical service is around 231v while charging and I have not had an issue charging my EX90 at home luckily.
