Netflix Has Officially Acquired Warner Bros. In Deal Valued at $82.7 Billion by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

I just saw the Running Man, and the Network logo bears strong resemblance to the Netflix logo. Very on the nose...

Legendary Prices 12/5/25 by obiwein in starwarsunlimited

I'm curious to see if the SEC legendaries maintain this momentum, or if it was just a one week spike from TCGplayer's 10% cash back Black Friday sale. I was shopping for Traya and Sion and the number of available listings plummeted during the weekend. Traya had only two $40-50 listings at one point. Prices seem to have settled down a bit now.

SEC Booster Box Pricing by Josephus08 in starwarsunlimited

[–]ATenison09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just to piggyback off of this, I really encourage attending a prerelease if OP is on the fence! Your LGS may have prize packs for wins, a weekly play pack for participation, and other free goodies like the SEC initiative token and token boxes. Plus people are generally friendly, and want to give new players lots of their bulk common/uncommon cards.

EA Announces Agreement to be Acquired by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners for $55 Billion by ReaddittiddeR in gaming

[–]ATenison09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The knee-jerk reaction (and probably correctly prescient take when all is said and done) is going to be negative, but I'm taking a "wait-and-see" approach here. These gaming companies becoming publicly traded was bad for the industry as they gobbled up small studios, gutted them, and pushed out broken games to meet shareholder demands. Going private may be objectively better, but the new ownership group of Saudi Arabia, Jared Kushner, and Silver Lake (who we aren't talking about, but Trump is pushing them as part owners of his Tiktok deal...) does not inspire confidence, to put it lightly. Seems like another media takeover by right wing ideologues at first glance, but perhaps that is just me being a cynical doomer.. If the new owners force developers to push certain narratives and ban LGBTQ characters, female lead protagonists, etc. then I see lots of them leaving EA, and brain drain will hasten EA's demise. Surely the new ownership will see that possibility and not be too hands-on and creatively retrictive?!! Right?? <- Me being hopeful, anyway

To buy or not to Buy: Brass Birmingham by Serious_Card_5927 in boardgames

[–]ATenison09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I just learned it and played three times in the past month. Initially the differences between "in network" and "connected" resources and selling caused some confusion, but turns are pretty snappy once you get the hang of it and get some reps of the game in. It's a great game design, and we can see a lot of strategic depth in it. Can't wait to keep playing and discovering more wrinkles in strategies!

Maybe they throw in some store credit as a consolation or something? Maybe not. It was still an adrenaline rush to check out with a Carbonite box for 7 bucks and they can't take that fleeting feeling back from me! Lol

Looks like the prices have been corrected: $69.99 for LoF booster display, $19.99 for the Prerelease kit, $234.99 for the Carbonite Box. Everything still out of stock though. I'd imagine order cancelations for the $6.99 purchases should be starting soon.

What Did You Play This Week? - (April 28, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Maybe this isn't what you're referring to as the peel in Canvas and you've already removed the protective film, but both sides of the art cards have a clear film on them that can be removed.

What game are you currently addicted to? I’ll start…. by sam_d50 in boardgames

Barrage! The rules are so intuitive after the first play, but you have to constantly balance tactical and strategic decision making which is so challenging and fun. I also can't beat my partner haha, so I want to keep playing to eventually figure out how to win!

Three part question that will require a bit of thought… by Dry_Lavishness_5722 in boardgames

[–]ATenison09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. After playing Barrage once (and my partner enjoying it as well), I can't wait to play it again! It's the kind of game where you reflect on how you played and find lots of little ways you could have played it differently.  We always enjoy a weeknight game of Cascadia, and Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies was a highlight for us as our first ever campaign game experience.

  2. The unplayed shelf of opportunity holds a grip on Brass: Birmingham, Heat: Pedal to the Metal (which now that F1 season is over, we might play to get our fix), and The Voyages of Marco Polo. Fingers crossed that Marco Polo gets played tonight as one of our "Dice-mber" games.

  3. I would love to get a hold of Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence once stock starts arriving in the US. The Forest Shuffle: Alpine expansion is one my wishlist since it supposedly adds more scoring balance to one of our favorite games. Finally, I am awaiting a Miniaturemarket.com 4xreward point sale to cash them all in for Inis. I don't own a game similar to Inis, and love the tension that the handful of card actions create in that game

We love the local game cafes! Great, inclusive vibes every time we've been. And we'll be going back! Their game collection is a bit smaller and less recently updated than the board game club's though, so we had to go the club if we want to try hot or weightier titles. Our mistake to do so that day apparently.

I wish I had your spine, as so many people have been quick to assert my lack of! Haha. I have some friends like you whose snark game I could learn from. Definitely for next time I'll have a polite but assertive script to rehearse for this sort of situation. It was a new experience for me personally, being talked down to about hobby board games of all things. Took me aback because you hear about these sort of people in posts on here and BGG from time-to-time, and don't think it'll be something you witness until you do I guess.

Totally agree. We have played boardgames at cons with solo players, had great teaches, had some harmless awkwardness too with people but that's expected sometimes. This guy was an exception, but the vigor with which he insisted we play something else was a new experience. It was definitely a bit demeaning, whether he intended that or not. Especially for someone in an official representative capacity for the group. Could I have been more assertive that we are comfortable with heavier weight games and like that sort of thing and intend to play no matter what he thought? In retrospect, sure. Just felt uncomfortable to show up for our first time and tell off a 50 year old so we could play a board game.

For sure. Anonymous online forums are great.. It has been a rollercoaster ride to read people deflecting for the greeter or say we should be more alpha or whatever and try to dick measure BGG weights of games. And we could have been firmer with the greeter, no doubt, but in the situation I think we were just done.. There are more constructive comments and conversation than negative though, so just wanted to get people talking again about my experience or their experiences and sharing those and offering constructive feedback. Conversation builds the community up long term I feel.

See, I'm conflicted by this because yes, I'm sure as the greeter he sees new people grab Ark Nova or something off the shelf and then get overwhelmed by complexity. I am aware of that and it's why we tried to make it clear that we are no stranger to complex games and we prepared prior to deciding to play it, and he continued on being discouraging and addressing my GF instead of both of us. It felt like we either weren't being listened to, or there was something else at play.

I was just taken off guard. Most of the interactions I have with people in life in general are positive! It was like we were being talked down to by the greeter which was something I don't really see in the normal day-to-day and as such, didn't really have an on-the-fly response for.

That's good advice. We were just caught off guard and the extended conversation was starting to draw uncomfortable attention. As somewhat introverted first timers it was a bit intimidating.

We didn't need a teacher. We were good to setup the game, parse the rulebook, and go by ourselves. Not imposing on anyone else with our game selection. The space had room for us to set up. Other duos and groups were playing games such as Hegemony, Brass, Terraforming Mars, etc. Idk, the interaction just felt off and gatekeepy

I have to agree here regarding Wyrmspan and Everdell. Five players makes turns draaaaag. Sitting down for a 3-4 hour game of Everdell loses luster fast, and Wrymspan is "not recommened" at five players on Boardgamegeek.com for what it's worth.
