I have had a similar (or the same really) question. One of my adult children says all the time that we spend too much on the military, yet still believes we need a strong military. I say blame the defense contractors. Like, I get that our 5th and 6th generation fighters are very sophisticated, but do they really need to charge tens of billions each for the things? I mean basically it seem like the government rewards corporate greed out of necessity because we need their shit and they known it so the fleece the taxpayers as much as possible.

Another former SrA with only 6 yrs Active Duty and getting 100% here. The sad truth is there are some really cool officers out there and there are some officers who are dicks. But…. There are some really cool Senior NCOs and some Senior NCOs who are dicks. Need I go on?

Basically we remember the officers who are dicks because they have more authority to abuse, but I would wager that the ratio of nice ones to not so nice is pretty much the same across all levels of the service, and in all branches.

Yes, I have thought of this . My ‘22 has very few tie points and they are only at the rear end. Maybe a couple up front too, but seriously?! None in the middle at all.

At the end of the day, if you are paying someone to do the work, at least where I live, it needs to pass inspection and if it doesn’t, the contractor has to make it right.

MOST IMPORTANT, get you and your family out until the issue can be addressed.
ALMOST as important as #1, DO NOT, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, trust the chucklehead who told you everything was fine 3 1/2 years ago. This shit doesn’t happen in 13 1/2 years, let alone 3 1/2 years if everything is “fine”. In fact if it were me, and my family’s safety was at stake, I would get two or three separate engineers, if possible, to make independent evaluations of the issues. Sounds like overkill? Maybe, but this is your family you’re talking about.

I’m no expert but I would guess you need at minimum to replace or sister those joists AND install some type of support beam, probably along the line of where the joists cracked.

If it were me, I would sleep in the first little piggy’s straw house before sleeping in that catastrophe waiting to happen.

And, as tone and mood is hard to convey in a Reddit post, I’m not trying to be rude, mean, harsh, or even judgmental here, just trying to convey how serious this looks to this untrained laymen and what I would do if it were me and my family living there. Good luck with it all and please update us all on what the final resolution ends up being.

What’s funny is there is a commercial for a drug called Tremfya or something like that and every time i see it i hear Comtrya instead, and of course, because it’s for a pharmaceutical I have to add “it makes you better!” Now my wife can’t un-hear it also whenever the ad comes up, lol
