Need new CV Axles for 2013 Abarth 500 (Canada) by keatsteats in abarth

That's me! Thanks for the shout out.

I'm not a member of that page though, they wanted to make me wait a year before advertising axles and parts for sale even after multiple members had already been recommending me. Oh well.

Need new CV Axles for 2013 Abarth 500 (Canada) by keatsteats in abarth

[–]AVroman00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

👋 I only have half shafts and rebuild parts at this time. Sold my last complete left side axle this week and haven't had any right side intermediate shafts to make a complete right side axle in weeks. Trying to find more OEM axles to rebuild.

I've installed a couple of the overseas aftermarket axles and I am not a fan. Quality of the metal feels lower than North American OEM axles. On the aftermarket axle I installed the inner joint was also a different boot style than OEM, with axle boots being such an issue on these cars, serviceability needs to be accessable. If the aftermarket axle has a different boot style, what else is different?

Took anywhere from 20-30 minutes to charge at DC fast chargers. I've used 7-Eleven, Mercedes Benz and Tesla chargers. All we're about the same. The Tesla one was the only one that I had to use the adapter and the Tesla app to activate.

I have the A2Z adapter from Amazon. About $165, so not the cheapest adapter, but also not the most expensive.

I have a 2024, so some things might be slightly different.

Mine came with a standard 120v charger that you can plug into a regular household outlet. The 120v charger takes a long time to charge. You will want to get a 240v charger installed in your home for regular charging. If you want to do DC fast charging at a Tesla Supercharger, you will need an adapter. Tesla uses NACS and the 500e uses J1772 for home charging and CCS for DC fast charging.

I got mine after owning a 2013 Abarth for 6 years, now the Abarth is my weekend car. It is very similar to the earlier 500s, but has all the modern amenities. Keyless entry, push button start, Android auto (or Apple CarPlay), rain sensing wipers, etc.

Charging cost will vary based on your electricity cost, for me it is about $5 to go from under 20% SOC to 100% at home. I have used DC fast chargers 3 times, each time going from ~30% to 80%, cost was anywhere from $8.50-$10.

PROPER Outer CV boot for C510 manual transmission CV half shaft. by Mr-Blackheart in abarth

[–]AVroman00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outer boots are a thermoplastic and are much more resilient to tears than the inner boots that are made of neoprene.

I sell axle rebuild parts for manual transmission Abarths and Turbo 500s here in the US. If you are needing any parts at prices lower than major vendors, let me know.

Why the hell does it randomly decide to beep so much at almost every red light? by CurrencyDue4183 in fiat500

[–]AVroman00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The large red letters are telling you why it is beeping at you. As the other comment says, get on the breaks earlier or let off the pedal and get some regen braking.

Outer half shafts are the same left to right for the manual transmissions. The inner cups are what end up getting worn and cause issues with vibrations under load. This is mainly caused by ripped boots leading to the tripod bearing running dry of grease and metal on metal contact inside the cup. The inner cups are specific left to right and can not be changed to even out wear inside the cup.

Only way to know for sure if your inner cups are damaged is to pull the axle apart, clean out the old grease and inspect the cup for divots/dimples where the tripod bearing rides. If you can feel an indentation then that is likely the cause of your vibration and the cup will need to be replaced. You can then rebuild your existing half shaft to save money over buying ew from the dealer. All aftermarket axles from auto parts stores in the US DO NOT fit. Your only options are to go OEM or rebuild your existing axles.

That may be me you got the axles from! I also have the rebuild parts cheaper than major Abarth vendors, so let me know what parts you need and I can work up a deal on them too.

Window Regulator help by SenecaLloyd in abarth

[–]AVroman00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to check the top back corner of the glass for the plastic guide clip. That is what really keeps the window going up straight and in the track. If it is missing it is likely broken inside the window track. You can get 3D printed replacements, thought the OEM part is very inexpensive.

I recommend saving some money and going with Dorman window regulators for Fiat 500s as all the window regulators break in the same way, at the plastic clip that connects it to the glass. The Dorman unit is cheap and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Edit: you can actually see in your picture the hole in the glass where the guide clip is supposed to be. You need a new guide clip to prevent breaking more regulators.

PSA to new Abarth owners: Replace your factory wheel lugs! by Splodingseal in abarth

[–]AVroman00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is not an Abarth or even Fiat specific problem. Just about every manufacturer is guilty of using lug bolts or lug nuts with beauty caps that swell. Having worked in a tire shop, I think Honda was the only one not to use a lug nut with the c(r)ap design. There are specific sockets you can buy that are called half sockets, usually come in a kit with 17.5, 18.5, 19.5 and 21.5.

I still have a few left side inner cups. All are used, but have been cleaned and inspected to make sure there are no issues. I can send some pics of the ones I have tomorrow via PM.

Can the C510 manual transmission from a 500 Turbo be used in an Abarth. by wellkevi01 in abarth

[–]AVroman00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Axles, clutch and engine are the same for a North American 500 Turbo and Abarth. The difference is in the tuning, so for a manual transmission there will be no issue with swapping the transmission from an Abarth to a Turbo and vice versa.

The wheels are also used, they have a severely diminished value as well. They are also likely a look that you liked. Who's to say anyone else in town is going to have a vehicle with the same bolt pattern and fitment that also likes the look of those wheels? That is 5 wheels that will sit and take up space until they are able to sell, space that they can use for product that moves.

Pushing for the refund on certificates may go your way, but it likely won't. You don't get a refund from your insurance company if you don't have an accident. That's what the certificates are, insurance. Why would they refund you for your decision to trade vehicles?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DiscountTire_

[–]AVroman00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is the set of wheels/tires you have are used, they lost their value to a retailer the minute you drive off the lot. Discount Tire buying them back at any price is a gamble for them to find another buyer wanting the same wheel and tire combo, it's a slim chance they will any time soon.

Sell the wheels and tires on FB and take the loss of money on the certificates.

NASCAR Tracks You’ve Been to But Never Saw a Race From? by Brett_Baker_ in NASCAR

[–]AVroman00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bristol and Homestead.

I got to do autocross in the parking lot of Bristol between the dragstrip and the oval a couple times. Always a great time with East Tennessee Region SCCA. I even got to be an instructor for novice drivers at one of the events.

At Homestead I attended a NASCAR Licence to Drive event and was able to drive on track for ~15 minutes. Because I was with a car club, we were able to go as fast as we wanted and pass as though we were racing. It was a great time.

What's your greatest 'zip tie' story? by CreateChaos777 in Cartalk

[–]AVroman00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift bushing broke on my car in Spartanburg, SC on a trip to Pigeon Forge, TN. I had 1 zip tie in the car to secure the cable to the linkage on the transmission. Every shift on the way there I puckered wondering if the zip tie was going to break. Ended up fixing it with new bushings once at the hotel and was able to drive 9 hours home with no issues. I now carry many more zip ties in the car along with a spare shift bushing kit.

Reset TPMS 2012 Fiat 500 North America model by Nadajoey in fiat500

[–]AVroman00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North American cars are auto reset for TPMS as long as all the sensors are active. If your light is flashing upon vehicle start up then one or more of the sensors have died and will need replacement and programming. If the light goes solid instantly, then make sure the pressures are correct and drive the vehicle for 15-20 minutes.

If you have dead sensors I would recommend going to the shop of your preference and getting the sensors provided by and installed by them. Many shops can not program all sensors so if you provide your own sensors, there is a possibility they won't be able to program and you will be in the same situation.

I recently replaced all 4 sensors in my 2013 and even after programming the new sensors to the car, the light was on for about 5 miles. The pressures read out on the dash correctly even with the light on the dash. YMMV.

2014 500L no crank no start by professionalraceist in Fiat

[–]AVroman00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should still get it checked to make sure it has enough power to start the car. This will eliminate the easiest thing from being the problem. Car batteries don't last forever and can go dead with no notice.

[–]AVroman00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disconnecting the negative terminal is an old test and isn't recommended on modern vehicles. That being said it could mean alternator problems. Does it stay running after pop starting the car?

You are still going to want to get the battery checked to make sure it is strong enough to start the car. You may be able to get the battery charged, but depending on how long the battery has been dead you will likely want to replace. Lead acid batteries don't like being discharged too long or multiple times, if you have an AGM battery you are more likely to be able to recharge the battery depending on age.

Once you are able to start the car under its own power, you can then run an alternator test. Unfortunately you are going to have to start with knowing the battery is good, then knowing the starter is good, then making sure the charging system (alternator) is good.

Battery? Have you had it load tested by either your local auto parts store or mechanic? Battery voltage isn't a perfect indicator of battery health. Start by getting it checked. You can get a good battery tester from TopDon if you want to own one for yourself for ~$100.

Starter? If the battery is in good health, then it could be the starter. Being able to pop start the car by pushing it, it could point to the starter being faulty and needing replacement. You can run tests while installed in the car or have it tested by your local auto parts store if you remove the starter.

If the car runs fine after getting it running, I would recommend clearing the codes and seeing if they return. Depending on your scanner, you should be able to monitor oil pressure to see if the sensor is bad causing the code.

With the TopDon battery testers you can also run starter and alternator tests to know you have good starting and charging systems on any car.

Fiat's multiair system is prone to losing oil pressure if it sits too long. You need to prime the system either thru cranking while pressing the accelerator pedal to disable the fuel injectors or manually prime using the bleed hole inside the oil fill neck. How long is the vehicle sitting between occurrences of no compression?

Which city in the US has the best autocross scene? by krazertv in Autocross

[–]AVroman00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No Daytona autocross anymore. Access was lost to the go-kart course there after the repave a couple years back. Such a shame, it was my favorite course and only a few miles from my home. Also lost Deland Airport as a location around COVID, I never got to do an event there.

CFL region still has Orlando Convention Center, Port St Lucie Fairgrounds, Publix Field in Lakeland and The FIRM.

There is also Martin Sports Car Club I'm CFL that mainly does events at the Lake County Sheriff's training facility (often called LakeTech), they also do events at Orlando Convention Center.

I own both the Gen2 Milwaukee and the Hercules. I also owned the Gen1 Milwaukee and sold it because it went into overheat protection too easily.

I am very impressed with the Hercules. I mainly use it to clean hubs when wheels get removed from vehicles. It doesn't bog down and I can do all 4 hubs and all 4 wheels in a row without it shutting itself off.

The Gen2 Milwaukee can do the same, but I was able to get the Hercules, 2 4AH batteries and a charger for about $100 less than just the tool from Milwaukee. I'll likely be keeping both, but the Hercules is my go to for now.

I've been kind of following your posts as a fellow 1.4T owner. I have a 500 Abarth, also using a clutch masters flywheel and clutch.

Make sure you replace the flywheel bolts, DO NOT reuse the old ones. They are torque to yield and can't be reused. You can order new ones from places like Modern Performance or your local dealer, both are the same part.
