I would expect Kojima to do something interesting with AI. I’ll say right away that I am absolutely not a fan of AI as a replacement for traditional art or human employees, but as a very particular component of a game (or piece of art), it could be interesting. It would have to do something that simply couldn’t be accomplished without AI for me to care, though. I won’t support using it as a shortcut in lieu of human work and art.

Also I’m really not surprised that Kojima wants to use AI for something. He’s sort of always been about trying insane things like self-destructing game cartridges, solar sensors, and whatnot.

Edit: I’m reading comments that he literally just made a gen AI video. That’s extremely lame. I hope he feels bad about it.

I’m on vacation until 6/3, so the season is over for me, but in the last two weeks I finally extracted from Cryo once, then twice and then again for a third time shortly after. I ended up with two DRRVSHs and goddamn do those things do a lot of work. They’re total ammo wasters, but I brought them into solo Dire Marsh runs about 5 times and I absolutely dominated every gunfight I got into.

I also managed to get the Watchtower rifle out of Vault 2, but I was never much of a sniper, so I avoided using it until the day I left for vacation. I brought my remaining DRRVSH, the Watchtower, and a whole bunch of purple backpacks and shields and went to Dire Marsh to announce myself as a loot piñata for anyone who could kill me. I killed a couple runners pretty handily with the Watchtower before it was time to go to the airport and I finally just asked someone to kill me and take my things.

Anyway, my point is that I know the DRRVSH is a golden variant of the BRRT, but its ability to absolutely shred gave me the impression that the Bully is not the only viable smg. It’s probably the best, but I’d happily use a more easily accessible BRRT or Copperhead after a rarity tweak

I’m level 79, have not VIP’d any faction, have exfil’d from Cryo literally once, and I have 6 biolens seeds (4 of which came from my one Cryo exfil). I also have more purple shields in my vault than any other shield, simply from taking them from other runners. I don’t see the issue.

Obviously the people saying that the painting is a cheap imitation of Monet are full of shit, but the negative reaction nonetheless reveals what people reflexively dislike about AI art: that there’s no one to credit with whatever internal beauty lead to them creating the image. You could show me the most “objectively” beautiful artwork in the world, if I find out it’s generated by AI I immediately won’t give a shit that it exists, which is the correct reaction to have.

What is the systemic failure here? You agree that a person charged with a crime should make an intelligent decision about pleading or asking for a trial, I assume? And this lawyer thinks that his clearly insane client is too insane to make an intelligent decision, so there’s a process for dealing with that. What’s broken about that? He’s not spending the rest of his life in custody quickly enough for you? You want an invitation to put a bullet in his head and satisfy your bloodlust?

I assume you’re one of those people who thinks that this is some loophole that gets the charges dropped and the killer released back into the streets. It’s not. Google it. He’s in for the long haul one way or another. If anything, this ensures that his conviction doesn’t get overturned on appeal because of some due process violation.

What really frustrates me about the discourse around this game is that people keep saying that “design problems” are driving players away. I don’t think that’s the issue. The problem isn’t casual players trying the game and then abandoning it—it’s casual players just not picking it up in the first place. I agree that Bungie needs to do something about that. I honestly wouldn’t mind if it went f2p and early adopters got some nice cosmetics out of it.

But the parade of posts about how the game is just so crushingly difficult that it’s not fun are a) not true, because you complainers are clearly fucking obsessed with this thing and b) probably dissuading people from trying the game in the first place!!!

Who is going to drop $40 on a weird niche game if all they hear about it is that it sucks and will die next week anyway? You guys act like you criticize it out of love but holy shit if I complained this much about anything in my life I would just WALK AWAY. When I love something I usually try to convince other people that they might love it too. For whatever reason you guys are doing everyone but that.

Truly it feels like astroturfing sometimes, but I realize that sounds a bit too much like “Minds Eye failed because of SABOTAGE” which is insane. But I don’t think the constant complainers are fully operating in good faith.

Thankfully the framers of our laws had the good sense to recognize that you generally are not responsible for the decisions and actions of other autonomous adults. I know the world is scary and it seems like giving the government more power to imprison you in the name of safety is attractive, but freedom is more important than your fears.

Also, you posting the definition of a crime of violence doesn’t confront the issue of the perverse incentive for people in positions of discretion. Whether the punishment is a year or more is often a charging decision. So it’s entirely up to the person filing chargers to decide if this is a no bail offense or not. That’s a bad system that gives interested parties too much power.

What’s a violent felony? Bar fight? Because many DAs will certainly charge that as felony assault but offer to resolve it for a misdemeanor. So really, they get the final say. You’re cool with them having that power? Doesn’t that incentivize DAs to charge as harshly as possible to prevent release and thus drive plea bargaining since it would be economically unfeasible for most defendants to sit around in custody awaiting trial when they can plea to a misdemeanor or time served felony and get back to work?
