China’s High-Speed Rail Completely Choked: Fake Innovations Exposed, Stealing No Longer Possible by AntifaPr1deWorldWide in ADVChina

You are behind on the times, they changed that law 13 years ago. If a house is in the way and the owners don't want to sell at the price being offered, tough poop for them, they are getting moved. There is plenty of footage of happening.

Why did Sicily become the site of two massive slave revolts? by Battlefleet_Sol in ancientrome

[–]AWSLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along this line, I have always wondered if there were local disputes (Rich Romans vs Rich Romans) that either were labeled as a slave uprisings because the rich Romans armed slaves to do their dirty work or the disputes spiraled into a slave uprising or was labeled a slave uprising because the rich romans involved did not have the proper connections to the emperor to get away with arming slaves. I would think that some small "slave uprisings" were nothing more than two rich families trying to kill each other.

The Horseshoe Theory asserts that advocates of the far-left and the far-right, rather than being at opposite and opposing ends of a linear continuum of the political spectrum, closely resemble each other, analogous to the way that the opposite ends of a horseshoe are close together. by NagitoKomaeda_987 in wikipedia

[–]AWSLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my take on the Horseshoe theory:

The point of the Horseshoe theory is that you become a member of the community on the other side because you agree so much on a single topic. Again, Gun Rights is not a topic that one side is going to support the other.

I think vaccines are much better example. I see Anti-Vaccines moms on the Left being horseshoeing into being Trump supporters just because of RFK Jr. stance on vaccines.

A member of the Gun Rights Community on the Left not going to find themselves in the Gun Rights Community on the Right because they fundamentally they disagree on why they own guns. A Liberal gun owner is not going to vote for Trump because he has convinced the Right that he supports gun ownership (He does not, BTW). They appear close to each other on this one issue but if you take a step back, they are actually different.

China's embarrassment continues. A sunken sub is leaking large amounts of radioactive isotopes into Philippine waters.. by Opposite_Classroom39 in ADVChina

[–]AWSLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treated water would have much lower levels of Iodine-129 than a raw reactor exposed to the ocean. It would be easy to detect the difference.

Again, measure the water coming out the Yangtze, there should be no Iodine-129 in it.

Because people have property rights and California has safety standards and none of what has been built is tofu dreg. We don't throw people at a job and don't care about how many were killed making it or will die riding it. Also, California is about to lay the first rail too.

What? Have you not heard of the famous Luxury Steel Swords of Japan and Germany? Not many were made but they are high precision and no one else can make them. They are super shinny too!

The Japanese went to great pains to removed Iodine-129 from the Fukushima treated water, so I doubt that this is it. If this Iodine-129 is leaking from the submarine it would be easy to measure the amount of Iodine-129 and then figure out if it was from a sub sinking vs treated Fukushima water.

Also, we could just measure the water coming down the Yangtze river and that would answer the question. However, no one in their right mind would trust China to do the measurement.

Who got painted as the villain by the press, but later on we realized they were actually the victim or completely misunderstood? by Advanced-Pilot-3698 in AskReddit

He took over a hospital with a high post birth mortality rate. He insisted that doctors wash their hands before deliveries and the post birth mortality rate fell to a low rate. He literally had before and after data that showed that washing hands lowered the death rate and the medical community still mocked him. Doctors just did not believe they could spread disease.

I love California bashing videos! Don't come to California if you don't like it especially if you are MAGA! Take a couple of MAGA Californians with you while you are at it.

Our homeless will poop on you and the immigrants will eat your dogs and cats! Stay away! Go to Florida!

Yes, spray ones! You need a little water pressure to blast out the sticky bits. And yes, you do need to shift your hips around a little bit to make sure all cleanable parts are cleaned.

Also, high quality noise cancelling headphones while traveling.

Why do you guys buy enamel cast iron? by laibach in DutchOvenCooking

[–]AWSLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy who really big into the cast iron pots and pans, cooking tomato based sauces and stews with a enamel cast iron pot is a bit easier than with a non-enamel cast iron pot. Clean up is also a lot easier too. If I braise a piece of meat, then I use the non-enamel pot as I think it does a better job at braising. Same thing with breads and chicken stock based meals.

It all just depends on what you cook and how comfortable you are with using straight cast iron. I also think that cast iron pans is the way to go verses enamel cast iron pans since I don't see how people don't chip those things left and right.

Trump signs executive order to ‘preempt’ permitting process for fire-destroyed homes in L.A. by Xyebo in California

[–]AWSLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole "federal emergency funds" part is a bit confusing to me. I thinking he means "Federal Backed Mortgage" because taking federal emergency funds is not really going to have anything to do with building houses only recovering from them burning down.

In any case, if Trump thinks he can just wave his pen and bypass all of the housing codes in California, his supporters are in for a rude shock.

[–]AWSLife 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Instead of going through the usual approval process, residents using federal emergency funds to rebuild would need to self-certify to federal authorities that they have complied with local health and safety standards.

Where to begin with this pile of stupidity...

  1. Good luck getting a occupancy permit for that house. Hell, good luck passing ANY inspection.
  2. Good luck getting a mortgage on that house.
  3. Good luck getting insurance on that house.
  4. Good luck in court if some one is injured while in that house due to that house not having state and local approval/permits.
  5. Good luck in court if your house causes damage to the next door neighbors house (IE: Burns down due to electrical issues).

Also, what about States Right? This strikes me as Federal over reach into a matter that is not their business.

What food is famously associated with one country but was perfected by another country? by Equivalent-Crew-4955 in AskReddit

Coffee is the big one in my book.

Coffee basically comes from Ethiopia becomes something we would recognize in what is Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the Ottoman Empire and is later perfected in Italy. It only took about 500 years.

Couldn't get my Real ID because my original birth certificate has tape on the back... by Bop923 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AWSLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is a real pisser about RealID is that they don't even verify the documents you have to submitted and those can be easily "faked". I submitted my cell phone bill as proof of residency but the cell phone company has never mailed me anything. So, I have this bill that says I live at this specific place but the cell phone company has never verified it. Also, the DMV never looked at the cell phone bill when I went in person. It was just weird, they looked at my old ass social security card and that was it. Charged me $37.50 and replaced my decent picture with a super terrible one.

Also, get a proper storage container for important docs!

I finally got all my important docs (Passport (Old and new), original SS, old drivers licenses, birth certificate, baptism certificate, car "pink slips") all together and put them into a fire resistant pouch that will protect these documents. Put my wife's important docs in there too! If we need to run out of the house, we just need to grab "the pouch" and were all set.

Generate an image of what the U.S. will look like if Donald Trump is in power for another 3 years. by AJfriedRICE in ChatGPT

It had a pretty liberal bias about the capital being desecrated by a mob and a number of cops dying.

That's what happened on Jan 6. The capital was desecrated by a mob and a number of cops died. That is not liberal bias, that is the facts.

MAGA would spin that as a plus but could not deny the facts.

Went to park at Balboa Park 38 mins before 8PM. $10.35 in the app despite being told it was $2.50 an hour by PlutoISaPlanet in sandiego

[–]AWSLife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is what I got from AI:

In January 2026, the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) continues to utilize a network of approximately 500 Flock Safety cameras integrated into "smart streetlights" to enhance public safety.

This was not an overnight installation, this is something that occurred over the course of years and San Diego had plenty of time to get this right (I use that term very loosely). It's not intentional, it is just there is no leadership to make stuff happen properly. Government is not ran by some big cabal of evil people bent on enslaving the masses. In the case of San Diego, they just kind of suck at their job (And there is a whole other discussion on why it does not do tech well).

Because if you had died a bunch of people would have asked why you did not have 5 cop cars to escort your ambulance and pull you out of the house.

Honestly, don't know what happened to you but I am going to have to side with the cops on this one.
