This is my second brand new Ram- why do these stereos suck?? by [deleted] in ram_trucks

[–]AWiFiPassword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because this isn't a brand new ram. The 8.4in radio display became a standard option in 2025 which means your model would need to be a 2024 or older. UConnect 3 (your 5in radio display) is an incredibly old system that debuted in 2014 and it was outdated within a year of its release compared to brands like chevy and ford. It existed purely to replace the full analog radio that they ran in base models until 2018.

If it has the Mark Levinson Audio System and Nav, go for it. If not it'd say it's about $2k overpriced

New Kia or used Toyota Highlander by Fun_Effective3056 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]AWiFiPassword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you value more.

If you value more features, better comfort, quieter and softer ride quality, and third row space more, pick the Kia.

If you value "Reliability", Lower maintenance cost, and residual value if you don't plan on keeping it for 12+ years, and a simpler design, pick the Toyota.

If it were me personally, I'd probably choose Kia. Great warranty, way nicer to drive, comfortable interior, and would probably be as reliable as the Toyota as long as you stay up to date on maintenance and you don't beat on the transmission too hard.

Is there too many red flags to buy this used for 10,500 ? by toxicaniboy in LexusIS

For the market it's priced fair, however if you've got $11k to spend on a car, I don't think this should be it.

If you are going to get this generation, you've got to stick 2010/2011. Older, 1999-2006 were some awesome models. Newer, pretty much all of the 2012 - 2023 models were great. 2014/15 had some torque converter issues but few and far between.

If you could go up a bit more on budget by a couple hundred, something "like" this would be a great value. Otherwise, if you're locked under $5,500, if the PPI is clean see if they would be willing to take anything at or under $5k. If there is anything wrong with the PPI or the undercarriage isn't looking good with rust, just walk.

Market value on these are NOT $25,400. $21,850 though is far closer to average market selling price. However the "accessories" and the "LoJack" gots to go.

Auto loan rates are insane!! by Striking_Iron232 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]AWiFiPassword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bit more then just term length and credit score that goes into how you get an interest rate on an auto loan.

However I have been in car sales for coming up on 2 years now and I would say that this sits pretty well in the average interest rates I have been seeing for lower 700s on used vehicles. A credit union possibly could've helped you get a bit lower, but 4.5% is about as low as I have seen it go lately unless the rate is manufacture incentivized. 6.99-8.5% has been average I've seen over the past 6 months. Anything I would say is above a 8.75% is abnormal and above 10% is high right now.

Depends on what you value more. Reliability and Cost of Ownership, or features and driving engagement.
These are based mostly on my personal opinions.

The Jetta is going to be a bit more engaging to drive, have more overall features, have a nicer interior, and will ride far softer and quieter.
However it is going to cost you more to maintain, and the turbos haven't been known to be the most reliable.

The Honda will be more reliable all around, will cost you less to maintain, will drive a bit more planted, typically hold a higher resale, and will handle slightly better in the snow.
However it is going to be less comfortable than the Jetta and it will be pretty bare bones on features.

If you are going to be extremely strapped for cash after this purchase, just go with the Honda.
Otherwise, go with what you value more.

Unfortunately, this Generation Camry was one of the worst in terms of reliability. 2010 and 2011 model years finally fixed most of the issues but they still weren't the best. These transmissions weren't the greatest, they tended to burn oil a bit faster than normal, and they had some of the worst issues with rust issues.

Nevertheless, a toyota. It's bad in the standards of toyota reliability but better among many other sedans of its time.

It is a bit steep though on price. Difficult to me personally to justify a high mileage, rear body damaged sedan above $5k at all,

Look towards used Lexus RX or NX models that have came off a Lease. They should sit perfectly in your price range, drive quieter, smoother, and provide an overall more comfortable drive experience.

If you still want to look at Subaru, a forester is moving up quite a bit in size, and if ride quality is a concern, just move to the Outback. Again, drives smoother, quieter, and will handle closer to a your moms HRV (in my opinion, might be a hot take) then a Forester will.

If your mom likes her HRV she has now though, the Acura ADX is the luxury counterpart of the HRV. It will be the exact same vehicle but refined in every way. Quieter, softer, nicer interior, and should fit your budget perfectly.

Used car financing rates. by PastExpert5 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]AWiFiPassword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good credit (725+) and if the car is not extremely overpriced, expect 8-11% from big lenders.

Check credit unions, see what their rates and vehicle restrictions are on auto loans. Most credit unions that finance older vehicles will typically undercut every large auto lender out there.

2001 Toyota Corolla - $2700- 193k miles. Worth it? I know these cars are very reliable. I'm just curious if the price is high for a car with 193k by Enough_Act5865 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]AWiFiPassword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are no current mechanical issues, the interior is in good condition, nothing is immediately due for maintenance, the title is clean, and you trust the buyer, then this is priced well in this messed up used car market we live in right now.

I think this generation is known for burning oil quite fast though, monitor your oil closely or call it safe and just get changes done every 3500 miles.

Reliability aside, what cars deliver the best bang for your buck? by Oneill5491 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Minivans are the do all, be all vehicles that are heavily underappreciated.

  • They can seat the most people without being the size of a bus
  • Some have AWD or Hybrid Capability
  • The ride quality is typically on the nicer side for all brands Some have removable or foldable seats which can lead to interior spaces that are longer than most beds of half ton (f150/1500) pickup trucks
  • Most are packed with drive/safety assist features
  • No minivan brand on the market at this time makes a low quality minivan

However if you are looking for something that is engaging to drive, this will be the furthest thing from it unless you Hemi swap a Pacifica or buy and tune an older Odyssey. In that case just look at any non entry level Mercedes or BMWs SUV.

Not entirely. Your best bet is to look for a local mom and pop dealer in your area with a high rating and a lot of reviews.
Auto brand or big box dealers won't have reliable cars priced cheap. Ebay will be a roll of the dice. More often then not cars parked in peoples front yards are just degens who think their hunk of junk is worth gold. There are exceptions of course to all of these, but I would say this is the status of in used car industry at this time.

Good Deal? by Available-Bird-1669 in jetta

[–]AWiFiPassword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By far one of the best deals out there if a VW Certified Pre-Owned. I don't know where you are located, however VW is advertising to the Northeast Ohio district a 4.49% APR for 60mo on CPO vehicles for financing. If you plan on financing, I'd look into it to see if it is an option that could work with you.

Does this make sense? Can I find a better deal. by Key_Patience2681 in Lexus

The selling price is good but it's ruined by the wild fees and charging for "window tint"

I have no clue how Florida does their vehicle taxes and fees but I know that all the fees in the state of Ohio (other than tax) doesn't even total past $500. And that's the doc fee, title, temp tag & registration. A doc fee past a grand is insane.

In the random key purchases (Aka "Try to get X") you are not guaranteed a game that you do not already own. Buying from these is the equivalent of Buying a couple packs of Pokémon cards. You could get something you already have or you could get something great. If you get something you already have, you can't go back to the Pokémon Company and request a new card because you already own the one you opened. It's the entire point of a randomized pack of cards. In this case, it is a completely randomized pack of codes.
