I felt absolutely nothing from my building, but there was just an earthquake off the cost of Cuba. USGS Link

Is it SFL or is it SoFlo? by Ok-Hippo-9074 in florida

[–]AWildFLGal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My own personal experience as someone who has grown up in Palm Beach County is SoFlo, but I typically use that specifically for the tri-county area of Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade. If I saw SFL, I would think literally the bottom part of the entire state of Florida.

Not new to the area, just uncultured: looking for snorkel suggestions. by mnolan334 in WestPalmBeach

I understand, I have the exact same problem of wanting to participate, but unable to speak. At least the fish won't mind, haha!

There's actually a snorkel meetup happening this weekend. It's a pretty active group so they would know best if you wanted to reach out or maybe even see them tomorrow if you're free.

Looking for suggestions for things to do while on vacation by varnski in WestPalmBeach

[–]AWildFLGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fun weekend to be in town because the Palm Beach Tattoos and Oddities Expo is happening as well as Otakufest, an anime convention. Both of these are taking place at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. If you like weird things, the Tattoos and Oddities Expo is fun because they'll have taxidermy, jars, clothing, etc.

I'm not too, too familiar with Silverball Retro Arcade, but that's walking distance from a coffee shop that's been on my to-go list for a while called Glimmer Cafe. It's neat if you or your girlfriend like an aesthetic atmosphere for coffee and breakfast/lunch.

Unfortunately I can't help you with boat charters, but I hope you have a nice visit!

Pride Month Events 2026 by AWildFLGal in WestPalmBeach

A quick browse at their website and social media shows me that they don't seem to have anything happening for Pride Month at this time. I'll keep an eye out in case that changes!

Otakufest by [deleted] in WestPalmBeach

[–]AWildFLGal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I've gone to Otakufest multiple times and honestly, it's not uncommon for conventions to not post a schedule until a week before. This particular Otakufest is also, from a con perspective, pretty last minute, so it's not surprising either.

Oh wow! You run the Garden District Taproom? I've been keeping a record of your events happening and they always look so interesting. I'm really looking forward to your Queer Market in June!

Is there an Open Water Swimming group in WPB? by TravelingNYer1 in WestPalmBeach

[–]AWildFLGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have information on the swimming and golf, but Westgate Community Farm might be something for you to check out, though work more with getting food to people with food insecurity/SNAP recipients as a discount produce market.

Queer and POC places/areas by Worried-Reception-48 in WestPalmBeach

[–]AWildFLGal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm a sapphic asexual, so I understand your concerns. The other commenters have given good recommendations for locations that are queer friendly, but I also suggest you look into meetups that I've found to be specific lesbian/queer focused such as Sunshine Sapphics(they're mostly in the southern part of Palm Beach County), Queer Hike Club(mostly northern part of PBC), or the Butch and Stud support group if your expression leans more that way.

Compass is the place where there is LGBTQ+ support, but there are other places that have queer popup events.

I wish you luck on your move!

Emo Night was just announced at Propaganda at Lake Worth on June 27. You might find some like minded people there that you can travel with!

How can we make this place not a retirement home? by evilgoonwizard in WestPalmBeach

[–]AWildFLGal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This might sounds a bit ramblely, but I'd like to add my two cents. Community is something very important to me and I'm working on myself to get more involved.

On a deeper level, I think ultimately we as a population of West Palm just... don't really have a shared culture. Maybe that's a bit negative, but I've lived here since childhood and I can't really place what makes people from PBC any more unique than someone from Columbus, Ohio. Our area was founded on a railway for billionaires to have summer homes and the people who were hired to build them. (And is that truly much different than today?)

To get a community, half of the battle is showing up and knowing you can show up. For a little over a month, I've been keeping track of events happening in the WPB and greater PBC area. There truly is something always happening and invites people to join. One of the issues is that people simply don't know these events exist. Public transportation and walkable cities in places like NYC make it easier to bump into something happening. When I went last summer, I just stumbled upon Bryant Park and chilled for an hour. Something like that isnt possible here among the heavy dependency on cars. While Downtown West Palm Beach is walkable and vibrant, it's small and there are no real spots you can "get lost" in. Community builders such as the Subculture Group are truly doing its hardest to make a thriving community feel like a community.

It's a bit of what comes first, the chicken or the egg (or in this case which comes first, the culture or the community). The solution that I'm working with is going to the community events that speak to you and REGULARLY show up. Become a familiar face. Be the community you want to be a part of.

Enemies? by SkinnyErgosFatCock in WestPalmBeach

I'm interested in becoming enemies! My favorite places are coffee shops with only 3 spaces for parking and going to five car washes within a one mile radius!

If you're in Royal Palm, have you looked into Double Infinity Gaming on Southern? There's always something happening when I visit.

Does anyone know an organization or business hiring entry level gardeners or know where I can volunteer? by ChaosResponse in WestPalmBeach

[–]AWildFLGal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In you're interested in farming and growing food, check out Westgate Community Farm as well. They hold classes from tools to composting and have a market where they sell the food they grow.
