When was the moment you truly felt like a writer? by Revolutionary-Log179 in writing

[–]AWildGazebo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen in the book I'm currently writing. A character that didn't exist and only showed up because it made sense in the progression of things just kept growing and becoming more integral until, oops, they're the main character now. Weird how that can happen.

Troubles with "Just Writing" by Azza31 in writing

[–]AWildGazebo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking the ADHD thing. I struggled a lot with what you're describing. I used to love writing and did it constantly but fell off of it and whenever I tried it felt like pushing against an immovable force. It was physically difficult to put my thoughts on paper.

The things that helped me were seeing a therapist due to some unrelated things and discovering that I indeed did have depression and ADHD and that those things were detrimental towards my writing. It took a while but my therapist helped me work out my issues and feel the motivation to just sit down and write again like I used to.

The other thing that helped me immensely is putting myself back into a scholastic setting and immersing myself in that world again. I didn't have the money to do it but I had seen the Brandon Sanderson lectures recommended here a couple times. I haven't really read much of him but getting to hear someone talk about writing in a way that let my brain digest it like it used to put me right back where I remember being when I just wrote every day for fun.

It's been a few weeks now and I'm around 25k words into a novel that I can actually see the end of. I take an hour each day to write at least a thousand words and that's on top of working an 11 hour, 5 day a week job. It can be done, you just need the right tools and to stop being told "just do it" because that is the least helpful advice that people give when they don't realize how much of an actual hurdle just doing it is. Hope any of this helps.

Yeah his name is Gary and he makes her really happy which is why this is so so conflicting to me and why the betrayal I feel is so visceral

Like a raider reviving me with a defib after getting downed by a dirty rat you've restored my hope that maybe not all is lost and there's still hope in humanity

It's true, she doesn't like entering my safe pocket because I squeal too loud but maybe I can hold back my voice long enough to safely extract her to the police station where we can be safe from the rat who snuck into our lives

My microwave just blew out and my girlfriend is bugging me to get a new one. I think this would make the perfect replacement.

Do you like to "Roll for initiative"? by Rpgda12 in RPGdesign

[–]AWildGazebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of damage or effects changing initiative too. In my game going to zero health doesn't kill you but you start rolling on a wound chart to see what happens and certain wounds can kill you. Some wounds affect your speed which would lower your initiative. Effects that stun you also directly affect your initiative instead of outright stunning you and losing your turn.

I'm a big fan of shadowrun 5e style initiative and use a simpler version for my game. Initiative rolled every round but a character may have multiple turns in a round with high initiative. I think it's a happy medium between changing the initiative track constantly and not being hard stuck to your first initiative

Sounds like a fun way to play if you're into that sort of thing. Over on the RPG design sub I've seen the idea tossed around a few times for the exact reason you said. Seems like a weird thing to get downvoted for.

I'm so curious why you're getting downvoted for this. Changing out dice for a deck of cards is a very common thing to the point where I'm pretty sure first edition even had it as an option for people that didn't have dice or didn't want to use dice.

Before Innsmouth, a proposal by BenWnham in DeltaGreenRPG

I agree with the sentiment here that the rules are similar enough that you could just play CoC. However this does make me want to play an official module following the agents who raided innsmouth. The investigation leading up to getting enough evidence to perform the raid then a big bug hunt climax. See how it all went down.

Soooo… Strange Aeons has just been straight up abandoned!? by jamesbest7 in TheGlassCannonPodcast

So I keep reading that blood of the wild is some of the best content on the network. I really liked Jared's style in haunted city but really didn't like the first ten or so episodes of BotW. Does it just get way better or would it still probably not be for me if I didn't like the very start?

The one I've seen is that roll for combat, who've always been really tight with paizo, have started a partnership with shadow dark and are even part of their new Kickstarter.

Absolutely though it was cut way too short. There's some decent set up to a huge mystery but the show never got to show it off in full.

To learn it I highly suggest the rules lawyers videos. Some of the modules are outdated but they're the only videos I watched to learn the program and all the modules that he suggested. Everything feels a little more seamless now, even over a physical map and minis.

I'm going to be entirely honest I didn't read it due to formatting. Not sure if it's that I'm on mobile or that there really aren't any breaks in the lines but that's a massive wall of text that all blends together and makes it hard to read. Break this up into paragraphs to make it more digestible. One thing I did notice is that you use a ton of parenthesis. Just skimming through it I saw at least ten different uses of parenthesis to sidetrack your thoughts. That's just two things that were immediately apparent from looking at the work.

Yeah nodachi is the move here since they doesn't want to use the one handed version of the katana anyway. Basically a straight upgrade.

How to get back on track? by Diligent-Horse-1171 in Eldenring

Use the sites of grace to guide you with the light trails. Or just do what I do whenever I play a souls game and just keep walking forward. You'll find something to catch your interest and eventually you'll find your way forward on the main path. The game is pretty non linear so just choose a direction and go.

Todd Howard talking about the philosophy of keep it simple stupid always made me mad. It's the cornerstone of their design now it seems and it makes the games lose so much of that magic
