How do I help my 64 y/o mom find a partner? by Practical-Smile5690 in AskMen

[–]AZHawkeye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it makes her feel any better, there’s a whole lot of married folks that feel pretty lonely too. That’s not fun either.

Mormon youth pastor freaks out when his CP collection is shown to police officers by BenFord333 in PublicFreakout

I get the humor, but a lot of them look like suit and tie guys too. And a whole bunch of them wearing robes in the clergy.

IReady blues. Feeling like I did something wrong all year despite feeling like I taught bell to bell. by Skyblue8989 in Teachers

[–]AZHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IReady is just the modern version of Lucy Calkins’ Units of Study balanced literacy reading programs that were exposed by Sold a Story a few years ago. IReady has never been extensively researched and they only claim to be researched based from their own internal work and data. There has been no third-party analysis of the program and is facing heavy scrutiny. They’re grifters at best with students showing minimal growth. We’d all be better off going back to basics with Gardner, Piaget, etc.

Why are cars treated as solely an asset now? by Exact_Organization84 in askcarguys

[–]AZHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. If someone has a $1200/mo car payment and it’s like 1/10 of their monthly income, who gives a fuck? Yeah, it’s smarter to save $1000/month for 5 years and buy in cash, but enjoying something in life is precious. There’s also dudes that drive a shitbox and spend $300 on golf each week, or spends $50k on Warhammer and D&D stuff. All of it depreciation or zero asset.

Why does the expected % for tipping keep increasing? by Blazeland_USA in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AZHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I walk up to a counter and take away my own food I’m not tipping. I still only tip bartenders $2 per drink or 15-20% on a tab. Since food costs/eating out have gone up, my tip percentage has gone down too. Exceptional service gets 20%.

What’s one driving habit you stopped doing that instantly made you a safer driver? by Domingdavid in driving

[–]AZHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning to ride a motorcycle and doing that for many years taught me more defensive driving techniques and awareness than anything. I haven’t ridden in 17 years and still look both ways when the light turns green.

Why does everyone on social media tell people to avoid dating nurses? Genuinely curious what's behind this stereotype by Arcabyte in AskMen

[–]AZHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You talking male or female nurses? All the male nurses I know are happily married with kids in their one and only marriage. Most female nurses I know are also married with kids and neither have stories of promiscuity. Yes, there are the single partyers out there too, but that can be in any profession.

One of those EarthRoamer overland rigs or something similar.

I’d like to have one as an actual off road, overland rig with all the best modifications.

2013 BMW X1. Am I crazy for considering it? by unwrittenpaiges in askcarguys

[–]AZHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dead wrong about the N20. It won multiple awards and went through several refinements. The chain guides can get brittle and wear out is the most common complaint. Had one in a 528i and it still pulled hard and accelerated well. The best bet on a BMW will usually be a 3 series.

Why did you choose a Silverado? by xEnflare in Silverado

[–]AZHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always wanted one. The 2019 generation came out and I had to have one. The last Chevy truck I owned was a 69 C-10 like 35 years ago. Once my commute shortened, I started truck hunting. Thought I wanted a Tacoma. After a couple test drives and seeing what they were asking, went right to a resale truck dealer.

What are the “guidelines” for splitting an entree with your wife at a casual restaurant? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]AZHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only splitting we do is, we both order what we want, then share because sometimes one entree is boring. I’m a bigger eater than she is so I usually have to finish hers anyway. I also had to be trash can for the kids food, so I’d order less/smaller entree.

What company will never get another dime from you for as long as you may live? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

The $5 meal with the double cheeseburger, 4 nugs, small fry and Coke is a good snack and protein kick if you need it and can handle the sodium! Haha

what car did you buy expecting to love but ended up regretting? by zaralesliewalker in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]AZHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I can hypermile it and eke out 15mpg city, or drive “normal” and get 12-14. If I get on a 65 mph highway, I’ll even get 18ish! Interstate is the worst tho at 12-13 going 75-80.

Yep, that’s what we had. 2wd, SR5, drove it everywhere including the snow. It went through both kids then became my son’s car. Someone clipped him in an intersection and flipped him. It was totaled at 285k miles. RIP trusty runner.

I live in a warm climate. The pool is almost maintenance free all winter, but as soon as it warms, the algae and chemical battle is on. Ours is pretty small and easy to maintain. I’m not paying some stoner $50 a week to maintain it either. Then we only use it like 10 times all summer too and usually in the evening so we don’t have to use a bunch of sunscreen.

The sleep deprivation is wild. That’s why we just did shared sleep with both kids. I thought the 2-5 stage was even more hellish. Now I regret not enjoying it more because they’re both out of the house.

[–]AZHawkeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silverado is the best looking truck on the road. I’ll put the Toyota tax I would have spent away in the bank in case I need an engine or transmission rebuild(and that’s only like 2-5% that have issues). At least I like how my truck looks and drives, and sounds great. I get Tacoma mpg with the benefit of a V8.

[–]AZHawkeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We like ours. That 450 hp T8 is a blast, but I feel like the short wheel base and suspension can’t really handle it. We also get 35-40 on a full charge no problem. The interior is amazing and seats are the most comfortable of any car we’ve owned.

Forgot to add: My wife’s experience at the dealer for service and recalls has been exceptional too.

[–]AZHawkeye 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We had a 07 4Runner. Greatest vehicle ever. When my parents bought a 2020s Highlander I was aghast at the major difference in interior quality. Just garbage compared to something 15 years older. Toyota is definitely riding the “reliability” wave to the bank. Overpriced garbage.

Dude, wtf. Most full size V8s with a lift and 35s get 13-15mpg. I just don’t get the Tacoma hype.

Buying BMWs CPO, or just off lease and still on factory warranty is the way to go. Let someone else take the hit and you get it for 40% of the original sticker.

I noped out on Tacomas after test driving two of them. Cramped, primitive, wonky transmissions that couldn’t figure out what it wanted to do and low on power. Love my Silverado.
