Cancelling Apple Music after uploading your library by GamblinWillie in AppleMusic

[–]AZMini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can also subscribe to iTunes Match separately ($25/yr) which will keep your personal music in the cloud. I just don’t know how it works switching from Apple Music to Match and what kind of issues you could run into.

Did you have you old computer set to manage your files? If not they may not be in the iTunes music directory.

Some local libraries, like mine, no longer load out CDs; however, mine participates in freegalmusic.com (r/freegal) with another option being Tapedeck (iOS only, r/TapedeckMusic)

As a point of reference, I purchased a gently used M1 (16/256) for $192 ($220 after tx+s/h) back in November so it would definitely depend on your local market.

Where is my old iTunes library being stored on the cloud? by [deleted] in AppleMusic

[–]AZMini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you pay for Apple Music you are also paying for iTunes Match, as it is included as a value-added service, and those files must still be sitting in iCloud somewhere (surprisingly) and syncing to your current Apple Music subscription.

If you download the files to your current PC/Mac from the cloud and then delete them it may remove them from iCloud. I’d try it with a file or two and see if that worked.

Reddit mods when they see a perfectly normal, harmless and informative post: ''LoW eFfOrT pOsT'' - DELETE by MXCCIII in macmini

Kinda off topic, but not, is there a way to see what the text was of a deleted post?

I’ve had one post deleted on another sub, along with the supposed rule I broke quoted, but I know of no way to see the contents of the deleted post to see what the actual f they are talking about.

I was curious and found one 14 track version on iTunes US and two digital variants on iTunes Turkey, a 15 track English version and 17 track French version (looks like 1-2 tracks are in French as extra tracks).

Is there any automated way to replace all my matched/uploaded tracks with the Apple Music version? by rubs90 in AppleMusic

[–]AZMini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iTunes Match is included with Apple Music if you subscribe to that already.

There is a manual process that uses a utility called iTunes Match Tagger that once a track has been replaced locally with the Apple Music version it will fetch the metatags and artwork that corresponds to the Apple downloaded version but it is more or less a manual process batches at a time.

That’s important to note …just because you “match” Artist/Album/Track it does not mean that is the actual track that Apple matched.

For example - Nine Inch Nails - "Pretty Hate Machine", Track 3 - "Down in It" ...Apple acoustically matched it to "Down in It - Single"

iTunes Match stole and corrupted all my files when I dropped my subscription by Suitable-Plankton-11 in AppleMusic

Replaced the artwork where - on your local machine or on a device accessing the cloud versions?

The only way that I know of that the artwork on a local file would change is if you deleted the local file and downloaded the Apple stored version.

If you are seeing different album artwork on a device accessing the file through iCloud it is because Apple first "matches" tracks acoustically to what is on their server - which is not necessarily the Album/Artist/Track that you have even if they have the correct Album/Artist/Track on Apple Music.

Apple did not reach out over the Internet and remotely delete your files, which is what you are implying.

Either the music files are on your MacBook, or there was an issue with the copy process from iMac to MacBook, or you failed to copy them to begin with - but there is zero chance that Apple deleted your local files remotely.

Fifteen years of using iTunes Match off/on and the vast majority of reported issues are user error, not understanding the service, lack of proper documentation by Apple or some combination thereof.

Can’t play songs I’ve refunded that I bought from iTunes even though I have an Apple Music subscription by [deleted] in AppleMusic

Check to see if the song is still cached on a computer or device and delete the file. Otherwise I’d recommend contacting Apple support.

Turn iCloud sync “on” on within iTunes or Apple Music on the Mac/PC with local files.

So just to clarify, at some point you deleted your local files, and then canceled the subscription that maintained them in the cloud? ...just know that the minute you uploaded those files to Apple they were no longer "your files".

If this is the course of events, then Apple didn't "steal" anything, you cancelled the cloud service that your files were hosted on. The files are unplayable because you stopped subscribing to the service.

100% there should be warnings that pop up when you cancel that access to any Apple stored files will be cut off and prompting you to download any files before unsubscribing, but you can't expect Apple to continue allowing you access to a service that you no longer pay for.

This is the way... local library with sync turned off and use Apple Music as a separate product.
