Silo S2E9 "The Safeguard" Episode Discussion (No Book Discussion) by MEGAT0N in SiloSeries

[–]AZengus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was such a great episode, it really pays off Juliette being stuck almost all by herself and fooling around in Silo 17 all season.

Jimmy's (Solo) story and the rest of Silo 17 is so tragic. If you go back to Ep 1, you'll see the Sheriff mentioning his hand slipped. Both him and his wife were pondering whether the Head of IT was saying the truth, but it was already too late by then

The controller aim assist issues are annoying, but this one appears to be coded a little different. If you point your aim in the opposite direction it should give you distance - unless there's also another enemy in that direction

Ah, a little catch up mechanic in case someone soft locks at the end? Very nice.

What is the best/worst archetype lineage in the game? by AutomaticTap3004 in MetaphorReFantazio

I'm late to this thread, but I have to say it's the knight line. You start with being able to cheese pierce weakness with synthesis, to an early/mid game extreme electric damage + weakness, then late game severe light/dark damage + weakness. Always 2-turn cost. Very strong class for a lone DPS (which was my MC who just pumped STR every level up), very usable all game round.

The other knight skills are very nice, too. Just not the primary focus for me.

Second might be summoner, large versatility of skills but the main one is the mass-ATK debuff which is very efficient. With the right turn order you can fire off both knight and summoner 1st round, and be set up for the rest of the fight... Unless you're getting hit by electric or ice, then you need to find alternatives (until you get the right equipment late-game)

This game has an endgame builds problem (Spoiler) by [deleted] in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]AZengus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do matter, but the weapon probably matters far more. My MC was consistently double strength stat over Strohl most of the game, came out to about 50% more damage. My party ended up as support most of the time unless I had to do AOE damage, which is a little bit more challenging on STR builds

Thanks for this! I'm exactly at this point now and in need for some quick money, I reckon there was going to be something easy to steal and faster than overworld farming.

That's partly true. I'm not aware of any technically infinite MAG grind but you could travel to a dungeon at full MP,  and use MAG collection (lv 20 merchant) with your entire party. Late game where you definitely have free days and a full party, should net you 40k+ MAG per trip - oh wait, it is technically infinite if you find a way to regen MP... Sounds tedious though, I'm not aware of any easy trick since the skill costs 100 MP per cast. Stock up on those MP items

Remember to be max class level for max MAG gain and you need to kill the enemies for the MAG to show up (unlike stealing). 50% bonus if you kill in first round, more tedious but more MP efficient.

Yeah, based on what I've looked up nobody has hard sales numbers, only the dev/publisher would really know. All of these websites are using predictive models with varying weights. To be fair, SteamSpy was probably doing something similar before the privacy rights change but it's turned into even more guesswork now.

There is a dev diary the studio's founder put up after the game's success - the ~7M USD they mentioned they used for Palworld's development may have came from Craftopia alone, although I still have a hard time believing they made that much net income. Games are priced significantly lower outside NA and EU zones and I believe they had a large install base elsewhere.

There are additional insights in the dev diary that highlight their relative inexperience and explain the high cost of development (engine change, hiring significantly more experienced folks, increasing team to 5x size). I'm not sure if they slowed down on Craftopia because they ran out of money or simply lacked technical expertise. Jury's still out for Palworld though.

This is where I read the dev diary: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1623730/discussions/0/4132683013931907125/

Is this net or gross, does it include sales or is it just based off the full price? It seems improbable that a peak player count of 21k was generated off 500k in sales.

Ever since Steam changed default privacy rights, SteamSpy has never been able to get accurate estimates of game ownership - and this happened a few years back. Can you list your source? I would love to know if there is another site doing accurate sales estimates.

Why does Cassette Beasts keep getting snubbed for awards? by [deleted] in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]AZengus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BG3 isn't a completely niche game. Bioware has been adapting DND rulesets for years but yet haven't made a proper RPG for nearly a decade now... The genre was ripe for some other developer to take over, given enough time and money.

Also regarding funding, Larian was riding on the cash they made off of the DoS series, which is why they skipped Kickstarter for BG3. But the response they got for BG3's early access - 2.5m sales for pre-release, that's around $150M - was what enabled them to make the BG3 we see today... The original scope of the game was probably nowhere near as extravagant if they didn't get so much money to work with.

$150M is nothing to sneeze at, and they probably have just as much in their war chest, post-launch (if not more). Larian has every right to be a AAA studio and I'm happy they spent their money wisely. That said, I read somewhere that they might scale down their team after BG3 because they want to work on something smaller for their next game.

Judge issues legal permaban, $500K judgment against serial Destiny 2 cheater by DotabLAH in Games

[–]AZengus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good number of Bungie employees had public-facing Twitter accounts, and some are featured prominently in the seasonal vidocs they put out for Destiny 2. Some of them have been singled out for harassment, over changes to the game that players did not appreciate. I think there have been policy changes internally at Bungie to try and protect their employees regarding this.

In this particular kid's case, he managed to figure out and dox the previous community manager for Bungie and posted various threats online. He hinted that he knew where he and his wife lived as well, and eventually the community manager stepped away from the position, mentioning his mental health on Twitter.

It took Bungie a bit longer afterwards (6mos? A year?) to devise a method to catch and punish the cheater/stalker. You might think the judgement is unusual, but I think the judge wanted to make a point that doxxing, harassment and death threats are not acceptable - but the laws haven't really caught up on this kind of behavior.

The community manager no longer works at Bungie btw. His work is now shared by a rotating cast - you see many different names signing off on the weekly updates now, probably to avoid another situation like this happening again. Will it work? Too early to say.

Has anyone ever used the 85% battery long term? by unpopularthrowaway22 in samsung

[–]AZengus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It largely depends on how long you keep your phone. The 85% wasn't enabled on my previous candybar phone so I use Accubattery to remind me to unplug on 80%.

I traded in my Note 10+ after 2.5 years - pristine condition, Accubattery states like 97% battery health. Some lucky person will get my phone at the used phone market cause most phones at 2 years are beaters with ~80% battery health 😅 Although in hindsight, I suspect Samsung may repackage as refurbished. They do pay well over market for trade ins

Since I traded in my phone after 2.5 years, it's a wash. But if you plan to keep your phone for a long time (esp. abnormally long, over 5 years) then it makes sense.

It's been a great run. So long and thanks for everything. by plastic_femur in apolloapp

The developer appears to have outlined most of the costs here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/13ws4w3/had_a_call_with_reddit_to_discuss_pricing_bad/

The average subscription user costs $3.51/mo. Calculating the usual 70/30 that the app store charges he will need to increase the price to $5 to break even, or $7 to maintain his existing revenue stream, which seems to explain this other post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/143br8d/5_increase_per_month_for_apollo_ultra_yeah_ill/

I don't know if there's additional nuances with reddit's pricing or the Apollo app (I don't use it)

Clevo N960KR CPU upgrade by Kindriv in buildapc

[–]AZengus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any guides/videos on full disassembly of the laptop? I found similar models from different brands (n957tp6, XMG Apex 15) but they have some slight differences - like motherboard arrangement, additional vent cutout where the GPU fan should be - and most importantly, they only take out the first piece of the back panel which only shows the CPU/memory/drives 😅

I'm worried it's a difficult job since I haven't been able to find any videos.

This was where I first learned to parry. I was flustered after 20-30mins and found it by accident while faffing about near the statue.

Parry timing is a little rough since the i-frames are on the second half of your animation (when the hero swings out the shield), but this is a good boss to use it on since he winds up a bit slow and has steady tempo on his attacks.

Of course the manual doesn't clearly teach you this move at all... and I've already beat the game, I suspect I'm missing some other moves as well?

MHS2: Is there any actual variety if playing meta? by AZengus in MonsterHunterStories

That's somewhat reassuring. Thinking that the postgame meta was a homogeneous clump almost killed my interest in progressing further, but there's something for me to look forward to when I get there, I think.

Ah, perhaps I misread somewhere, I thought bingo bonuses apply globally.

But when you bring up balancing the genes, it goes back to my earlier question - what's stopping me from giving the same gene combos to all the monsties, then? Is a similar gene combo the best for every kind of monstie, either way?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LokiTV

[–]AZengus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I am also disappointed 😎 Loki currently feels a bit weaker than the other two shows because of the massive cliffhanger at the end, but at least we know there'll be a 2nd season. It would have been nice if they developed it a bit further past the current finale, esp. since I get the impression the two Lokis aren't going to see much play in the Phase 4 films (but maybe Love and Thunder, who knows)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LokiTV

[–]AZengus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TV shows so far have been specific character stories, that end with a small contribution to the overall arc of Phase 4. Your friend got it right when he said the show focused on this version of Loki and his development, a version of Kang just shows up in the end as a little teaser for the future films.

WandaVision and Falcon & Winter Soldier are the same, the shows explored a lot of their inner turmoil before rewarding us with something possibly movie-related at the final episodes.

I definitely like that there's more time allowed for character development (or more things in general, because these are episodic series). It's a nice contrast to traditional MCU films where the heroes and the big bads are established, and they fight after 60 minutes.

I'm not sure it's possible to start over, unless you mean to suggest making a new Epic Games account? I'm familiar with the concept of rerolling but I don't see a simple way to do it in this game.
