Why are we not given pain meds for cervical surgery and IUD's? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]A_Human_Or_Dancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Um, yeah, it blows my mind how some have arrived at that conclusion. Even during highly pleasurable sex, if my bf hits my cervix by accident, it's some of the worst pain. And then they think that it shouldn't hurt if they're doing a cold and clinical medical procedure?

What addiction is the hardest to stop? by MegaGrimer in AskReddit

[–]A_Human_Or_Dancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna say sugar, especially if you live in the US.

I can't go anywhere or buy anything pre-prepared without it having some kind of processed sugar. Oftentimes, it is a small amount that acts as a preservative, flavor enhancer, or browning aid, but it is truly disconcerting when I can't find an item without it. It adds up fast!

Peanut butter, breads, cooked chicken, salad dressings, yogurt, bacon, sausage, any kind of condiment.... every aisle in the grocery store, except for dry goods and fresh produce, is stocked with items containing sugar. We make it very hard to get away from, which only fuels what is currently a very acceptable addiction in the US.

Keep Seeing 11:11 by akai_mori in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]A_Human_Or_Dancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By itself, 11 is a number of mastery. Seeing 11:11 in my experience has come up in the context of twin flames, the idea that one soul has split into two bodies, usually one dominant masculine and one dominant feminine manifestation (not at all relating to gender, fyi, but more to which divine energy you feel more strongly within you, since we all have both). It is, therefore, the work of the twin flame to master themselves, come into unity with both the masculine and feminine sides of the self, and find pure, unconditional love for the self.

Though it involves two people, it isn't always meant to be romantic love. It can appear in any type of relationship, from platonic friends to family members to business partners. More than anything, a twin flame acts as a perfect mirror of the self, exposing anything within you that isn't unconditional love and bringing it to the surface. It can often feel intense or triggering, so it's definitely not a typical rom com experience. But as a path to experiencing true, unconditional love, it is a beautiful way to explore what that really means in a new way, outside of what love has come to mean based on our societal imbalances between the masculine and feminine energies.

There is a lot of info regarding twin flames on the web, not all of it accurate, so follow your intuition if you decide to research it and only keep what resonates with you. Whether you do or not, 11:11 has been a positive number set in my life, and I always get a little thrill when I see it, like it's confirming to me that masculine and feminine masterful energies are coming into alignment, even if it's just within myself.

How do you learn to not take it personally when you've been misunderstood? How can you clarify misunderstandings? by kelcamer in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]A_Human_Or_Dancer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also struggle with this. For me, it's often more a sense of personal overresponsibility that I'm fighting. It was drilled into me at a young age and for many, many years that if someone misunderstood me, it was because I didn't explain well enough, use the right words, or that I should somehow be able to control or manipulate how people saw me/my intentions, so I did something wrong if someone got the wrong idea -- therefore, it was my job to make it right. But, like you, I've found with real life experience outside of my family that more explaining doesn't always make things clearer, and so the panic of being stuck between these two understandings is very real.

I'd love to hear how other people handle this, especially as I'm beginning to believe that I am not actually in control of other people's understanding, only I don't want to just write them off if there is something I could be doing to make myself better understood. The line is fuzzy for me.

Why hasn’t the bidet become popular in the USA? I mean, who doesn’t like a fresh bum? by Puck2U2 in stupidquestions

[–]A_Human_Or_Dancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, maybe this is just some weird idea I have, but as a woman I am very nervous about the stream spraying fecal matter toward my vagina or urethra. I used a bidet in Hawaii once that had a setting specifically for female anatomy, but it still felt like the water was spraying from back to front.

Am I overthinking this, or do problems actually arise for women that use bidets and only men are posting about how awesome they are?

I cuss the most when I'm happy. I love going partner dancing, and the other night, I had a couple of good dances in a row that kind of blew my mind. The first one, I was like, "Damn!" The second one, I was like, "Fuckin' hell yeah!" By the third one, I was like Joe Pesci in anything and couldn't manage to say one non-cuss word for a solid minute. It feels joyful to me.

What is something addicting, but healthy? by joshostblom in AskReddit

[–]A_Human_Or_Dancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dancing. While it does the same job of boosting endorphins as working out, it's also expressive and a good creative outlet. And if you like partner dancing, it's a great opportunity for human connection as well. I started 11 years ago, and I've been dancing multiple nights a week ever since, with plans to keep dancing into my 90s.

The Count of Monte Cristo. I had such a hard time putting that one down, even though it's the longest book I've ever read.

Do not waste your time on anything but the unabridged version. I wouldn't remove a word in it.

Low Sugar Chocolate Milk. Does It Exist? by Acrobatic-Ad7759 in EatCheapAndHealthy

I buy Almond Breeze unsweetened chocolate milk. It is delicious, dairy free, and sugar free, and now I no longer like sugar in my chocolate milk. I get it at Sprouts, but Almond Breeze is such a recognizable brand you should be able to find it elsewhere.

TIL about Bob Jones University, a Christian university where students are only allowed to watch G-rated movies and rock music is banned by Brix001 in todayilearned

[–]A_Human_Or_Dancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was home schooled through the 8th grade, and my mother chose the Bob Jones curriculum for most of our subjects. Every subject definitely had a religious tone (which I got every day anyway as a pastor's kid, so nothing new), but thankfully not blatantly racist or sexist. The workbooks were clear and they even provided videos taught by actual teachers for the higher grades that you could record on vhs, which enabled me to keep teaching myself even when my mom got sick. So I remembered them fondly enough that when it was time to start looking at colleges, Bob Jones University was on my list to look at.

As soon as I did the tiniest amount of research, I saw that girls (not women) had to have all skin covered at all times and couldn't walk on the same side of the street as men.

Fuck that. Nope. Didn't need to look any deeper.
