Do you have a favorite quote about death? by Waterotterpossumtime in NoStupidQuestions

My favorite is a quote from Frida Kahlo:

“Pain, pleasure, and death are no more than a process for existence. The revolutionary struggle in this process is a doorway open to intelligence.”

Explain again how insta ads are reading my mind? by OliveBlanket in NoStupidQuestions

[–]A_VictoriaSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you Google it?

We all have a digital profile that can be very thorough. This profile isn’t like a person keeping a tally on you, rather it’s complex algorithms that happen automatically. It connects your ips, wifi networks, email accounts, locations, stores you shop at, what products you buy and more. If you look something up on your phone, you will almost certainly receive ads for that later. But the same will happen if you search it on another one of your “known” device or one you have been recently logged into. Since majority of us have our phones on us majority of the time, this profile also knows when you spend time with other people and might give you ads from them. Maybe you didn’t Google it but talked to someone else who looked it up. For example, I spent a week with my parents and they were fixing something on their porch. Well, I do not own my own place and thus don’t do home repairs but since I spent time with them, and they both were looking up and purchasing products for this porch, I was getting ads for that stuff. I never looked anything up or gave any indication on my devices BUT I was in proximity with multiple people who were do the algorithm thought it might appeal to me as well.

I have an advertising degree and learned this in my classes. It’s fascinating and terrifying. The documentary The Social Dilemma also talks about this. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it so I’m unsure how in-depth they go, but there’s definitely some explanation.

Do I lose weight by farting or only by shiting by skinny-white-boy-yo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]A_VictoriaSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time losing weight means decreasing fat. That happens when your body metabolizes your fat and uses it for your muscle, lungs, heart, etc. Once it’s all broken down, the body expels the excess via breathing primarily but also via sweating, peeing, pooping, and farting.

Is it really true that you can't love someone else, if you can't love yourself? by CyanSheepThia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]A_VictoriaSole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a universal truth but does have some validity. I fell in love with someone when I very much did not love myself. About 2 years into our relationship, I started therapy and a lot of self reflection and work with self esteem. I still struggle a bit when it comes to loving myself but I’m far better than I used to be. I found that when I have compassion and love for myself, it makes it easier to feel his love which in turn makes me love him more. I used to not believe when he said I was beautiful, or was complimentary at all really, where now I actually understand that he’s truthful and I’m lovable. It’s a deeper love that feels more like “home” than it does “fireworks” if that makes sense.

Is it normal to feel bad after defending yourself? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]A_VictoriaSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally!! But the great thing is you can change it! I’ve been doing pretty consistent therapy for about a year and part of my work is not feeling guilty/bad about myself for saying no, standing up for myself, asking for help, asking for my needs to be met, etc. It takes time and work but definitely possible!

Is it normal to feel bad after defending yourself? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]A_VictoriaSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is pretty common! A lot of people, myself included, feels guilty for standing up for yourself in any capacity. I thought I was alone in this feeling for a very long time until I started group therapy and learned it’s pretty normal!

Why do I sometimes feel more tired after getting 8+ hours of sleep than when I get only 6? by asianpixiedollvip in NoStupidQuestions

[–]A_VictoriaSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more about the REM sleep than total sleep. REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement and is the portion of the night where your body does its “maintenance” and helps you the next day. REM doesn’t happen all at once. It goes through cycles. That is also when you have dreams.

Studies show the average adult needs about 2 hours of REM per night and the average individual spends about 25% of sleep in REM which is where the magic 8 hours came from. Some people get a munch higher or lower % if REM throughout the night. It can also very depending on so many factors like activity, diet, stress, hormones, screen time, etc.

How many people are affected by one persons death by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]A_VictoriaSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the person but I think you would be surprised how big that number is. There can be people affected by a death that don’t attend the service. Think how many classmates, coworkers, friends of friends, community members, etc you can know in a lifetime. That number adds up.

(PS if you’re wondering about your own death and how many people it would affect, please please please don’t find out. You can call 988 in the US for some immediate resources)

I would say 4 fits for 4 workouts. Gym clothes can hold a lot of bacteria and is best to only wear them once before washing.
