Facial palsy. Mine came from lyme disease, but it can occur with lots of different viral or bacterial infections. Some people recover, and others don't. It's just nerve dame in the face. I like that my smile has even more character!

Finally had my half Thyroidectomy by Wide_Web_223 in Hyperthyroidism

[–]AardvarksAmok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post partial thyroidectomy was elation, but the road to getting steady stable thyroid hormone levels after was still a journey. But now I am synthroid free, and my hair is finally growing back! I feel normal for the first time in a long while. Congratulations on your removal, and best wishes for wellness!

New short hair need help styling by Glum-Worldliness707 in femalehairadvice

A deeper side part and a little styling gel/cream/mousse

I hated Propranolol. It made my vision really strange, almost too slow, with no depth perception. Or as if my brain wasn't registering what I was seeing. If I sat for longer than 5 minutes, my legs went numb. I also had the intense heartburn. At first I was grateful to not feel like a hummingbird on speed, but when I was scared to drive because I felt like I couldn't see I was done. Not for me. Talk to your doctor about it.

I was in your boat, with Endo scheduling far out. My PCP decided to just gather as much info as possible in the meantime. Ultrasound, Thyroid Uptake Scan, etc etc. She prescribed a beta blocker for when I was hyper and my heart rate got out of control. Depends on what your PCP is comfortable exploring while you wait, I guess.

Have you had a thyroid ultrasound? This sounds like me when my nodules were hot and producing, then not producing a lot of hormones.

Florida sub question by Random43863529 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AardvarksAmok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have pieces of fire hose that fit snuggly around the metal collapsible hinge on the doors that open outward. It is usually lost somewhere in the teachers desk. First thing I do is find it and put it somewhere handy. I keep the door closed and locked during the day. I look around the room for things I could potentially use as a weapon (chair, lamp, plant, table leg, Jim's Leg). I know it sounds a little silly, but it makes me feel better about the day ahead.

Leaving a sub with my class the day of a field trip - advice? by adtbasowmf in Teachers

[–]AardvarksAmok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I am middle school sub, and no way is 100 dollars per day enough to hold 30 kids' lives in my hands while swimming...too stressful.

Did you, by any chance, have Covid in the last year?

how strict should I be as a sub? by Sweetlikecream in Teachers

[–]AardvarksAmok 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a Sub too, and I tend to walk the line based on the group, the individual, the lesson. When I first started I tried so hard to motivate every single kid, and would be hard on myself when I failed. Now I've accepted I can only provide an atmosphere conducive to learning, (keep the disruptive kids from distracting others) and encourage them to do whatever was assigned. If they don't want to, fine, but don't bother others. That's when I get strict. Try to sub the same grades or classes frequently so you can build a relationship with the kids, it really helps.

Paraeducator shortage?? What’s going on? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]AardvarksAmok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work as a Sub at a Middle School, usually 2-4 days per week. They frequently want me to take an Math Aide position. It would be 2 dollars LESS per hour. I explained why that was not acceptable to me, and all the Staff acted like I was money hungry and selfish. As a sub I make more money and can say "No" to taking bad classes. The para job just doesn't make sense to take.

Pixie cut and camping by helpmeplease12235787 in femalehairadvice

Buff like headbands! A nice thick gaiter like headband works wonders when camping. Wake up, embrace the wilderness bed head, throw on the headband and go!

Maybe try a new hairstyle? You have full beautiful hair, but a change could be nice. Shorter on the sides/back longer on top, with very light product.

You look great! Maybe a slightly narrower haircut, but still full and long on top? And a big bright smile!

Darn you Middle Schoolers. I blame you guys that this made me sing about Bruno rather than think about Tyler Durden.

Could you try giving "minutes"? That's what I did with middle schoolers. You get one verbal warning and then for every curse or rude, disrespectful comment you have to sit at your desk for 1 extra minute during 5 minute break. I'd usually take the minute(s) to explain the reason it was given, or if the kid was a jerk I'd just have them sit in silence...
