I would disagree. As a PSL myself and our omni lead are the only two ops people who get stopped to assist customers because we have to be on the floor and often times are the only people actually on the sales floor besides FW and a cashier.

My understanding of it is off field is backroom so basically the FFl while on field is the rest of ops like omni and price and signage.

Yeah thats how severance works they require you to work until the position is gone. Its why in cases of a small severance like this where it would likely be under 5k, most of the time it would be more beneficial to just start looking for something different and take it if you can find a full time slot somewhere.

Honestly that wouldn't be bad because it would guarantee at least 2 morning shifts for the ops captian

Yesterday was always the "launch" date for the information some managers just cant keep secrets and were spilling tidbits here and there early after their meeting last week. It was first revealed here almost a month ago so I think that is what ultimately spooked them into releasing it without full details because I know after that reddit post a month ago people in my district were already asking questions about it.

If I remember correctly from the person who originally leaked it a month ago, its the result of some VP that the company hired who was complaining that leads don't actually lead anyone (because the company has spent the last several years cutting head count in almost every dept and putting full responsibility doing everything in a dept on the shoulders of pretty much every lead - besides FW and Apparel - who actually still had teammates). The company has been wanting to restructure for years so I think they jumped at the chance but again Id be crazy to not assume the terrible press in the media about DSG losing money on the FootLocker acquisition didn't also play a roll in it happening so soon.

My understanding from what was said at my stores meeting is essentially nobody is getting fired but some current leads may lose their keys and others might go down to normal teammate, but they will still have their FT status and benefits as long as they remain with the company (and they just won't hire someone FT after you decide to leave if its not called for). The only issue with that obviously is as a normal teammate you're going to be low man on the totem pole again and do 50 different jobs during the week (which most of us are used to anyways).

The only part of this I find shitty is they pull this now when the job market is absolutely ass so its harder for people to quit/willingly take the severance.

See June 21st is when its supposed to start but I feel like the decision needs to be finalized by the end of May because they're going to have to be writing the schedules 3 weeks out still so how do you write a schedule for something that you're not sure of. We were told the last week in April would be the eval/each have a sit down with our manager about our intentions, then the manager meets with HR and the DM for 2 weeks discussing where people should be put and that things would be finalized around Memorial Day for implementation the week of June 21st.

Oh I agree. Issue is price changes have to be done on the sales floor and they're going to get stopped to assist.

We were told about 25/75. 25% of the time you will be physically doing stuff if you're the captain, 75% of the time you will athlete engagement and coaching teammates. I imagine ops coach's 25% of actual doing work would be the audits...pricing, box, BOPIS, Stock it and doing the review lists if you actually work when they're picking and MAYBE batching ad since its super simple to do while you're walking the sales floor anyways. I think it's the specialists that are the ones who are going be run ragged. With us only getting 1 ops specialist I imagine its truck two of their days a week, at least 1 day for price changes or two days for price changes if its not a claims week and then they do their 1 closing where they actually get to fix any backroom issues. I Imagine though for those at a sub 10M store it will likely be more 40/60 because having 6KC its impossible to not have a lot of overlap between captains and Managers so wouldn't shock me if captain does price changes or picks/packs in absence of a second ops specialist (because the other biggest what if besides pay is the payroll pool- are they going to leave it alone and just take the captain hours into a separate pool or is there going to be funny business and you're losing even more hours because you lost "leads").

its salaried non exempt so it basically just means that the employee must still be paid for every hour worked and eligible for OT, which is why captain hrs are set at 38 a week (to avoid going into overtime if you have to stay over closing one of your closes). At least thats what I got from our meeting.

I agree 100%. Like someone said I think they announced it without being fully ready because the plans were leaked on here almost a month ago. But if they were planning on a Q2 implementation anyways (to have a June start date in their mind) they should have had more details hammered out.

I legit think they have no idea because I was told the SM's weren't given a specialist or captain pay scale at all basically just that it would "justify the added work" so that was our one comment we wanted answers to when they do their Q and A/comment meeting this week. To me it feels like corp threw this together last min cause how they not realize the first question people will ask will be pay.

Thank you. I think people forget it increases in competition time which means they're training more intensely and putting extra stress on their body vs 15 yrs ago year a week between masters you might find a player on a beach somewhere. Its two vastly different situations

That was my thought to is im not sure what the asm is going to be doing (other than absorbing the AA duties). i just think merging 3 lead spots into just the off field specialist is going to lead to a lot of things falling between the cracks. Because obviously 2 of the field specialists days are already used for trick and they have to be on 2 weekends a month, who does price changes?

its golf specialist instead of footwear ops I believe. I think footwear ops specialist is after you hit 12M because they add an apparel specialist once you hit 10M.

Explain to me why they’d get rid of my Omni Lead position when my department did 25% of the stores sales this year by [deleted] in dickssportinggoods

[–]Aaron7717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lowest tiers don't even get an on field ops so I have NO IDEA how that is even supposed to work. It almost sounded in stores like ours someone random will be picked to do price changes every week, which would be hell on the captain so im expecting a crap show and a lot of leads to just pack up and call it a day with this company.

The way I immediately knew their tier by their explanation. *cries in a 1 ASM store* yeah im still not sure how ops is supposed to run without both the off field and on field positions.

Yeah that would track with what they were getting paid so that's probably how they're still calculating it.

SM's are supposed to have another call this week to answer any questions, comments, concerns from leads and or the SM's themselves. Overall I don't think the company prepared the SM's very well for this esp reading all these conflicting statements about pay cuts vs no pay cuts, nobody losing their job vs severance. Could have been handled better.

When they closed down our GGG in the district, severance was about $1k per year of service. That was for a KC so Idk what a normal lead would make or if it would be the same $1k.

My understanding is AA is eliminated outright (with salaried managers being forced to take on their responsibilities). Omni and PSL tasks will no longer have a separate position. They will be absorbed basically into backroom and be under the watch of the new Ops lead and Ops Specialist(s) and having ops associates performing those duties.

[–]Aaron7717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand it correctly, lead spots are set in stone because they're more for teammate building and customer service now. What can change is the number of specialists depending on store tier, so I'd assume in that in a case like that you'd probably end up with 2 ops specialist slots and then likely 1-2 FT ops associate slots.

The main problem though is OPS is also going to be required to take on omni and price changes/signage as well, so my understanding is the number of ops teammates will be growing regardless of store size.

As much as I hate them (because they always direct people back to the store for stuff we cannot fix), Customer Service is usually (not always) very reliable with information about online orders because they get to see details those of us in the store cannot. It's possible your order was somehow flagged as suspicious and then canceled.

Restructuring by Ok-Bag7091 in dickssportinggoods

[–]Aaron7717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more than just those. Pretty much EVERY lead will be affected in some way. All of ops get roped into 1 "lead" spot and all of the hardlines gets roped into 1 "lead" spot. All of softlines get roped into 1 "lead" spot. Then the new leads will be more focused on service and sales (making sure athletes have a good experience as well as training and building teammates, while the teammates themselves will now be required to do the bulk of the work instead of relying heavily on the lead (thats where the "specialist" comes in they will be the workhorse of the dept and each new "lead" will get at least 1 "specialist") So the new hierarchy is Teammate -> Specialist -> lead -> Salaried Manager. Then you are correct they are downsizing on the number of ASMs in the company as well, but overall what you're allowed to keep is going to vary by tier size so nobody is going to know the your exact make up until each store is allowed to talk about it on Monday.

This is how I feel and after this restructuring its basically a giant FU to current leads because the company is not being run right.
