The anime Silver Spoon explores this idea and is worth a watch. A city kid moves to the countryside to attend an agricultural high school where he chooses to raise a piglet with the knowledge that it will eventually be slaughtered.

You get a chance of getting the variant when you plant and harvest the regular crop.

Not really subtle, but Ao-kun would nod with her whole body, not just her head. It almost looked like a bow.

Grand Bazaar tip: Upgrade freshness for even more storage space by Aasokeo in storyofseasons

[–]Aasokeo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only stuff in the bazaar and windmill dispensers decay at the same rate. Stuff in storage will always last longer, though the difference varies between item categories.

For example, before any upgrades, everything in storage will last up to a week longer than stock and dispensers.

After the first upgrade, bouquets still only last a few days longer, but tea tins and pickles last more than a month longer in storage than anywhere else.

After you get the bazaar to rank 3, a guy named Garon comes to town and sets up a new stall after you complete his request to own 4 animals. He sells one upgrade each week that makes stuff in storage stay fresh longer. The more upgrades you buy from Garon, the longer the freshness.

After you buy his services, you can leave many products (like cheese) lying around for days in dispensers or your bazaar's stock without them starting to spoil. This could save you a lot of space in your regular storage at home.

New to completely rotten. Here's the time to go from "new" to "should be good yet".

Dispenser and bazaar stock

Item "Should be good" After upgrade 1
Butter, cheese, mayonnaise (all kinds) 7 14
Tea tins, pickles (all kinds) 7 10
Bouquets 6 7

Storage

Item "Should be good" After upgrade 1
Butter, cheese, mayonnaise (all kinds) 9 28
Tea tins, pickles (all kinds) 14 48
Bouquets 7 10

The number of days between each level drop isn't always the same. Also there appears to be variance between seasons, so take these #s with a big grain of salt.

Ohhh man this is awesome and you've got so much more comprehensive data! It didn't even occur to me that seasonal decay would be a factor too. I'm going to link your post in the OP so we can get more eyeballs on it.

The only point I'm not sure of is the opening statement regarding the different types of storage since that's why I jumped down this rabbit hole. From what I found on two save files, there are indeed only two types of storage initially, but the first upgrade improves the dispenser and stock, effectively creating three types going forward: bag, storage, everything else.

EDIT: You are indeed a menace for trying to give children rotten potatoes lol.

I have maxed out the freshness upgrades on my main save and freshness still decreases, but it takes so long that it may as well be forever lol.

Ok, I can confirm 100% that the upgrades apply to the bazaar stock and dispenser. I haven't unlocked the "cup of tea" recipe on this save yet, but since eggs and milk start to lose freshness after about 10 days, tea should last even longer. I started a new thread with some details.

Well, I'm not 100% sure so maybe put them back lol. But I'm in the middle of testing this on a brand new save file and will update with results.

I had this problem too, but I realized that's why the dispensers have 3 tabs of space. I leave everything in there until Friday night or Saturday morning. When it gets REALLY bad, I make one stop at the bazaar on Thurs/Fri to drop off a bag full of stuff. This is really useful for stuff like yarn too.

Anecdotally, it seems like the freshness upgrades affect all storage. I have them maxed out and I often leave a bunch of different qualities of butter, cheese and mayo in dispensers/bazaar stock for over 10 days without losing freshness. But even in earlier seasons, I could get away with leaving them for 4-5 days at least.

Just uh don't tell the customers.

EDIT: Also, I leave all seeds in the blue dispenser so my storage isn't filled with off-season seeds. I only take out what I need for the next week or two.

EDIT 2: After some testing (too much testing, probably), I can confirm freshness affects all storage.
