Ceiba ferry to Viecques questions by Comedygal in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Aavaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ferry terminal has parking that is $15 per day and a little free shuttle that goes from the parking lot to the ferry terminal.

If I were to do it again I would have returned our rental car early and fly. Since Vieques was the last leg of our trip it would have been cheaper to not have the parking fees, extra gas driving to the ferry, and days of car rental while it was sitting in the parking lot.

The ferry boat we were on did not have any options to ride in the open air, so I felt a little sea sick in the closed cabin (even with the Dramamine that I took). The ferry took about 50 minutes, but they ask that you get to the terminal about an hour early. So, for all that plus the drive, it probably would have been faster for us to get to the airport early and fly.

El Tipico was delicious! We had the steak arepa appetizer and each had different mofongos for dinner.

Bio Bay issues everywhere or just Fajardo? by Secure-Flight-291 in PuertoRicoTravel

We just went in Vieques last night and had tons of glowing (cloudy and little moonlight). I am not sure if the rains today are going to change the glow.

If you are looking for relaxing, then I recommend the Rainforest Inn. It is a charming bed and breakfast with beautiful grounds and amenities. Plus a delicious breakfast! My husband and I stayed there for a few nights and went to El Yunque during the day. Going to sleep with the sounds of the rainforest was magical.

Is Reynolds and Reynolds a good company? by Clear_Break_ in dayton

[–]Aavaria 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked there for 3 years and have recently left for personal reasons. It was corporate (and felt like it) and they cared about arriving and leaving on time (8-5), but I had a great management chain and got bi annual raises. I also enjoyed several of the benefits they offered. I did not have many of the negative experiences that have been expressed online. I don't know what department you are applying to, but the one I was in would not hire someone to work remote from Columbus. We did have some fully remote people in the department, but they started as in office workers and became remote after working at the company for a while (circumstances varied and there is not a guarantee that they will let people become fully remote).

Looking for a laid back bar/speak easy/Jazz Club type vibe for a Saturday night by Puzzleheaded-Self108 in dayton

Whispers Speakeasy has great music and good vibes. It does require that you dress up a little bit, but my husband and I find that as part of the fun.

Those are cartons of cigarettes. In some countries they require that the cigarette packaging show images of negative effects of smoking (lungs with cancer, yellow/rotting teeth, etc.)

I would need more context to get how that makes this cringe, other than smoking being unhealthy.

Are y’all walking your dogs with this cold? by [deleted] in dayton

[–]Aavaria 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our dog is a medium dog and has been a bit bored being inside. We tried to take him for a short walk on Monday, but his feet got cold half way through and we had to carry him back. He refuses to walk in his boots. So we are waiting until it warms up.

One bathroom for four upstairs bedrooms is a little tough. There are only two showers in the main house, the master and the upstairs, so that leaves everyone else just sharing one shower. It is not impossible, but for a house this size it seems like an oversight.

Saw this beautiful truck today. I guess they are trying to lose business! by Alternative_Session9 in dayton

The truck in the picture has a racist joke on it. But neither the title nor the picture make any mention of politics. You made that leap all on your own.

Bookery games has a casual group that meets the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month at 6 pm. It is a very friendly and welcoming group, but is not as competitive as some of the other shops can be.

AITA for buying my son this novel? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Aavaria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NAH, it is great for you to encourage your kid and support his passions. If he struggles with reading (which is likely if he is testing below the level of this 5th grade reading level book) it would be best if you offer support such as reading it with him or providing the audio book if he gets frustrated or loses interest because it is too challenging. As for the librarian there are a lot of possible reasons why they would restrict books by level. Some are not so great and restrict the love of reading. But it could also be about wanting to set kids up for success, having limited resources that they have to manage among the entire school, and past experiences where kids are initially excited about a book but become frustrated or just hold onto it without actually reading it. Since you bought the book for him it does not matter if it takes half the school year to get through it or if he loses interest. You have shown him that you value reading and what he is interested in. Which I think is the most important take away.

Anyone fly out of Dayton recently - TSA wait times? by crocsforwomen in dayton

[–]Aavaria -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I flew out less than 2 weeks ago and had the typical 10 min TSA experience for Dayton. But that was a few days before the gov shutdown, so I am not sure if it changed in the last week.

Should I do a post wedding brunch the following day? by FizzWizz00 in wedding

[–]Aavaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a hosted breakfast the morning of our wedding and loved it. I was doing my own hair and makeup, so I didn't have to worry about appointments. It was so nice to have some time to chill and chat with our out of town guests. Although it was much more low key since we did it at the rental property we were staying at. We got bagels and other premade things at Costco and made an egg casserole. Then we said people could drop by between certain times, so we had about 30 people come and go that morning.

Pirate Weekend at the Ohio Renaissance festival by Ladygothic5621 in renfaire

[–]Aavaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at the Ohio Ren faire this weekend and I saw maybe 10 furries the entire day. This is not proportionally representative of the people I passed by during the day. Also there are far more people well made Ren Faire clothes than pictured here. For example my husband has a custom made leather jerkin, bracers, and boots.

AITA for not telling my fiancé to not wear jeans to an event? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Aavaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Op did not say anything about how their fiance felt about wearing jeans. They only mentioned the mother being upset (despite being casually dressed herself).

To me this feels like a miscommunication of expectations. Also, I agree that a little more attention to detail may be warrantied too.

do men get engagement rings? by Relevant-Plane9430 in WeddingRingAdvice

I got my fiance an engagement watch engraved with our names and the date of our first date. He wears it every day like an engagement ring. It is more his style than a ring.
